Carpenter
I never said I was good at this dating thing, official or not. All we talked about was work. I began to sink when Shyla looked down. She must've got a text. My phone began buzzing in my pocket as well. I looked down as well.
Further details on Presidential assault. Information advantageous and time sensitive. Phone bank on the corner on Monroe and Oberst. Midnight.
Presidential assault? What presidential assault? The waitress changed the TV channel to the late night news. Footage on the president being attacked by... Carnage? What was he doing running amuck again?
"It was really nice talking with you, but I've gotta go. See you later?" she smiled.
"Uh yeah," I said but she was already half way out the door. Nice one Bridges.
My mind went back to the text. Leaving a nice tip on the table I walked out and found the backpack with my costume. Looks like another long night.
Quickly changing into "Carpenter" mode, I absorbed the cement through my legs. That would give me enough strength for a nightime jump. I looked at my watch, 12:01. Ok, so I would be late. But at least I wasn't alone.
At the spot where the text said to meet was a beautiful drink of water. Blonde hair and a black mask?
"Hey there," I called. Hopefully the Carpenter could be more smooth with the ladies.
"Carpenter, right?" she asked casually.
"Yeah. And you must be Black Beauty. I know your work."
"Same," she replied. "But I was actually waiting for Overwatch."
"Overwatch? He sent the text?" Stupid ancient phone with no caller ID.
"What are you? From the 21th century?" she teased with smirk.
