I absolutely love having the featured works back! I remember that feature fondly from the old YWS. c:

are you a green room knight yet?
have you read this week's Squills?

Made a few small changes over the past few days.

The first is the signature block, which now has buttons in the lower right hand side instead of links. Plus, the background color of it is now light grey instead of light blue. Not a big change, but I think it looks a little more sleek.

Also managed to find out what the problem was with the "Quick Reply" button not appearing until a few seconds after the page loaded. So now, Quick Reply should show up instantly.

Last but not least, if you head to the Settings Dashboard then to Board Preferences, you can change the background of YWS. Use an HTML color code or an image. If the former, here's a good list:
http://www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm

However, if you just use a simple color name like "red" or "black," the form will recognize that as well. In fact, you can just use the regular color name for all of the major codes on that list (e.g., olive, darkblue, maroon, purple, lime, etc.).

Could we get an option to fix the image background on the page?

I wasn't really planning on doing anything more with it; the whole thing was done on a bit of a larf last night involving @Meshugenah, but since you did 105 reviews on Review Day, I'm not exactly inclined to say no to anything you request! If you asked me to jump off a cliff, I probably would.

So per your request, I've added some more options as to how the background-image appears. The options will show up as soon as you enter a value into the background style field on the Board Preferences page of the Settings Dashboard.

Am I the only one who hasn't changed my background and probably never will, because I love the YWS blueness?

Applied a Christmasy theme to YWS for Christmas in July.

Also, just as a heads up, there will be no Free Work Day this month prior to the Review Day. We don't do them very often -- having one twice in a row was a rarity.

I want to say something that I have noticed at least I think I have noticed.

It is that when you have to have points to publish your works, now most new members come along and since it is writing website they try to publish there works and find they cant or think they did but then they cant find it so the leave, now I was just thinking that this could be worked out some way although I am not entirely sure.

I just wanted to say this. Maybe they could be given just enough points to post one work and then they have to work for the rest.

Jordin,

I hear what you're saying, and it's not a bad idea. When new members join YWS, they start out with 250 points, which is half the cost to post a work. In order to gain enough points to post a work, they only have to do two reviews on works from The Green Room, which would put them at an additional 300 points.

We like to encourage a 2:1 review ratio or better here, which means that for every work you post, you should have two to three reviews on other members' works. It's only fair to give feedback if you expect feedback! Besides, if new members were to post free works, there wouldn't be anything to stop people from creating multiple accounts to share their writing. :)

Slight algorithm change for the Literary Spotlight.

Instead of ranking based on the number of likes a work has received in the past 3 days, it now looks only at the past 24 hours. This should hopefully lead to more variety for the spotlight.

In the future, what I'd like to do is send an alert to the author when their work is featured, but that'd require a bit more coding.
