Jared:

I woke up and rubbed my head. It hurt. Really bad. I wodered what had happened. I had fallen asleep, and then woke up just now.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked looking around. Some people were up and walking about, but others were still asleep. there was somebody new. I shrugged. "Oh well."
Tess walked into the clearing with some food. "Do NOT try and wake him up." She hissed at me when i tried to ask who the new comer was.
"Well hi to you too." I muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Uhuh, that's what I thought." She dropped the stuff she was holdeing and made a fire. It looked like the only people who were still sleeping were Elise, Skylar, the new guy(who i had just realized was ice chained to the ground), and Amy.
What an over-sleeper. I thought. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy.
WHAT!!!??? She shouted at me. Ohhh, my head.
Good to see you're awake. Why were you still sleeping? I thought. She usually was up before dawn.
Are you kidding me? We were attacked, and you're asking me why I didn't wake up before?
"WhAT!!?" i shouted aloud, and suddenly realized that nobody else could hear our conversation. Everybody turned to look at me, and I blushed.
Life is to be lived, not survived.

Skylar:

I leaned against the tree. What did I do wrong? I have so many questions to ask her, but I'm afraid she might ignore me and walk away. Walk away. That's what she's doing now. Walking away. Her words keep repeating in my head...

I've moved on.

Man, that hurt. Well, if she's walking away, I guess I should too. Forget about her. You're done. What am I saying? No I'm not. But, if she's going to be like that, maybe I should just walk away too. I sighed. Yup, I'm totally done. I am never going back again. I closed my eyes, falling to sleep.

I see Everlee and me standing, and it looks like we're talking. Her mouth opens to answer my question, but I shut my eyes closed and try to avoid it again.

"I've moved on."

Wow, that hurt even more now, since the whole message is repeating itself. Now I'm saying Grandfather's quote. Now I'm walking away, not from Everlee, but from love.

My eyes shot open, and now it's really dark. I nod. Yeah, I'm done with love.

(I was listening to "Never Going Back Again", a cover by Glee from Fleetwood Mac. Man, this made my heart break even more! No Skylar! You're not done yet!)

I float in calming darkness, weightless. It isn't like the before darkness, the horrible, scary dark. I want to stay here for a while, or maybe forever. I fall deeper and deeper, my own face flashing in my head over and over. I look younger though, maybe a little more innocent around the eyes. My face bugs me, but I can't remember why.

Somebody calls my name faintly, from far away. I feel myself tense up, another voice ringing in my head. It scares me and I want to run, but the calming dark has turned into a tar pit. I can't move, and the voice calls again. I tense as I feel myself falling upward. The voice gets louder, and less terifying. I can tell it's desperate, and more than a little scared. I want to go to it, but I'm not moving fast enough. I struggle against the suffocating blackness, to no avail. I want to scream in frustration, when pain flares across my face and I'm suddenly moving upward again, only this time I'm going fast.

Air bursts out of my lungs in an irritated, "WHAT?!" Light burns my eyes and I slap myself in the face trying to protect them. Something heavy lands in my lap and I peek through my fingers to see Seena curled up there. I wrap my free arm around her and slowly lower the other. "Hey." I say shakily. "Are you okay?" I ask.

She nods into my chest. "How are you? I thought you were dead." I laugh.

"Please. It will take more than a..." My face flashes in my head again, only this time I see the wrongness. The hair is just slightly lighter, the face more feminine. I freeze with Seena in my arms, afraid to look around. Who is... A possibility runs through my mind but I crush it before I really consider it. There's no way. He... he died with mom and dad... there's no way. I start to shake and dimly hear Seena ask if I'm okay. I feel like a child inside, scared. Remembering...

I snuck ito the house quietly, opening the door as silently as possible. I didn't want my parents to know I was home. I look around and smile, glad I got out of sitting Kara. I had had so much fun with my friends down at the lake, I couldn't-

Something smelled wrong. I took my coat off in the hallway and hung it up like mamma had told me. I look into the kitchen, calling for my parents. The house is eerily quiet, Jordan and Kara are nowhere to be seen or heard. I walk into the kitchen looking around. There's nobody here.

I'm about to walk out back when my shoe slips and I nearly smack my head on the table. I jump back and inspect my shoe. There is a sticky red substance coating the sole of my shoe.

"Eww, what...?" I look where I stepped to see a whole pool of the stuff, leading outside. My stomach fills with lead as i start to follow it, although I don't want to. I peek outside, calling again for my mother, and then my father.

I find him.

I start back into reality to hear Seena talking to me. "-Sure you're alright?" She asks. I ignore her and move her off my lap, standing. "Hey!" She exclaims. I walk over to our stranger who has been iced to the ground. I walk up to him an stomp down on the ice, hard. I hear angry shouts from around the camp, but I ignore them too. I grab the man by the scruff of his shirt and slap him. He jerks awake, blinking at the light. Seena is at my side, but I tune her out, concentrating on the face, looking.

Just like the face that flashed in my head. A slightly warped version of my face. He blinks and groans, probably because of his broken nose. He glares. "Who do you think yo-" He stopps, and looks at me, clearly surprized. "D-davnick..." He whispers, and his face and voice are scared. That fear in his eyes takes me back to the summer of my fifth birthday. I'd told Jorden I'd take him swimming, and I'd lost him in the river. When I found him on shore, scared out of his wits, I'd started yelling at him for leaving without telling me. He had looked at me with those big blue eyes and just said my name over and over.

Something breaks inside me. I crush the man to my chest as tears ran down my face. "Jorden, oh I thought you were dead..." I cried. I vaguely hear people talking around me, but I'm too concentrated on my brother. "Where were you?"

To my shock, he pulls away roughly. "Shut up!" he snapps. "My name isn't Jorden, it's Keradon! What do you think you're doing, stupid!?" I feel sick at his words. I know I'm not wrong about him being my brother, but there is the possibility...

"They took you too, didn't they?" I ask quietly. He looks shocked for a moment, then like he wants to deck me. Before he has a chance though, Sheara walks up and pulls on my sleve, scared.

"Davy, who is that?" She asks. My heart whimpers at the dried blood on her neck. I look at her, pained and unsure how to explain.

"He's-" I start, but Jor... Keradon, interrupts me.

He gapes at Sheara and tipps like he's going to pass out. "K-kara!?" He stutters, his eyes on Sheara. "Is that you?"

-Sheara

"K-kara!?" The strange man asked me, baffled. "Is that you?"

My eyes went wide and I cocked my head, confused.
"Wha-?"

"Kara! It's you! How are you...what...how?!" The man said. He looked a lot like Davy, it kinda scared me.

"Hey, shut it already! Don't even call her that again, or you will pay for it." Davy seethed, behond irritated.

The..smaller Davy looked at him, shocked.
"Are you blind and stupid?! Just look at her! How can you say that isn't Kara?!"

Kara...
The name echoed in my head. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Where have I heard that name before?

Davy looked mad now. He took a step toward the mini Davy.
"I have eyes, dude. Do not tell me what I already know." He said darkly, eyes piercing.

They began to argue, and the name kept echoing through my head, the memory getting louder and closer every time they said it.
Kara...why does that name sound so familiar?

Davy and mini Davy looked like they were about to attack eachother, fists out. I spoke up.

"Wait...I have heard that name before! Kara...where have I heard that?" I strained to remember.

Davy and mini Davy stopped and looked at me.
"Wait, you what?" Davy looked shocked, and a little hesitant.

"Yeah...Momma said that once...she also said Jordon, I think...I'm pretty sure...eveything is so fuzzy..." I squinted my eyes as if that would help me remember.

"And now that I think about it, she said Dav-David once too...that was...that was what she called Daddy...yeah! That was Daddy's name!"
Davy stood stone still, his hands began to shake slightly. Mini Davy turned and whispered to himself.

"I knew it! I knew it!"

Davy walked towards me slowley.
"What...what did Mamma look like, Sheara?" His voice was shaking.

I didn't know why Davy wanted to know, but I described Mommy the best I could.

"Well, she was tall, had long, silver-ish hair...she had pretty blue eyes, and...she had a scar on her arm...like teeth marks. She said that Poca bit her...but I don't remember that."

Davy dropped his arms and stared at me, then gave a hysterical little giggle.
"Acualy, it was me that bit her...she probably didn't want you to know about us." He whispered to himself.

I tipped my head.
"What did you say, Davy?"

"Well, you see Sheara..." He rubbed the back of his head and sat down. "My family... I had a little brother and sister. My mom... she is your mom." Davy looked at me like he wanted me to understand. "You, you look just like my sister, Kara. I.." He paused and took a shakey breath. "I thought my whole family died. I came home one day and they were gone. My dad... our dad. He had died." His voice was flat. "My little brother, sister, and mother were nowhere. I was alone. That's when-" His voice broke, and he shook his head, unable to continue.

My eyes went as wide as moons.

"My Daddy died too...and Momma said she had to run away...from the bad people. She said once, when she was crying, that she had left someone behind. She said she was afraid that we had...not forgotton, but left people."

Tears ran down Davy's face, and he pulled me into a tight hug. I didn't quite understand completely, but I could tell something was different. Something had changed for the good.
Ninja. Enough said.

Rayden Thorn:

I groaned and rolled over onto my side.

Crap in a hat! Everything hurts!

My head was pounding and my ears felt full. I tried to open my eyes but even that was painful.

“Rayden get up you idiot!” Dante squawked in my ear. I groaned louder and swatted at him

“Leave me alone you infernal bird.” he was now sitting on my shoulder and a long fast paced narrative of what was going on started to filter into the muddled pool of mush, which happened to be standing in for my brain.

“So while you were out a bloody lot of things happened.” he started, shifting around on my shoulder.

“Well I tried to scratch the kid who attacked us. I was aiming for his eyes but then Everlee said not too because she wanted to question him AND he was just a kid, so I stopped. Then Seena woke up, smacked Davnick on the face as hard as she could and then sat on him- or would straddled be the right word? Anyway then he pushed her off- he didn't hurt her at all. And then he and the scumbag kid started fighting, just yelling and then Sheara told them to stop and then Sumbag said “Kara?” or some other name like that and then everyone- Sheara, Davnick and Scum, started panicking- or maybe just loosing it? What do you call it when people freak out but in a slightly controlled way? Well it really doesn't matter, but the really strange thing is that, you not going to believe this- Sheara, Davnick and Scum are siblings! Apparently the sister Davnick thought had died is sheara, she didn't die, And the brother who he apparently had, but never told us about was still alive too! And he and Davnick look a freakishly amount alike! It's that strange? That their all siblings?”

Dante had run on, not stopping to take a breath until he was finished. I looked at him blankly, cracking one of my eyes open. I hadn't comprehended a word.

“Wha?” I said thickly trying to sit up, my head let out a throb in protest. “Dear heaven!” I groaned loudly grabbing my head. “Do I have a hangover?”

Dante just gave me a look.

“No idiot, we are with your sisters friends and we all got knocked out by Scum- I can't remember his name. You are the last to wake up! If you had a hangover you would know, trust me. you would have unexplainable bruises and at least one black eye. Not get up and pull yourself together you look like death warmed over.”
he hopped off my shoulder and marched to the fire and settled himself in.

I slowly got to my feet, every part of my not liking this in the least.

“Thank you for telling me so honestly Dante.” I growled rummaging though my pack.

“Are you sure this isn't a hangover? And everything that's happened part of it? I sure feel hung over.” I paused and blinked owlishly trying to clear the fog from my head.

“Do I have any coffee left? I kill a puppy for some right now.”

"Do I have any coffee left? I'd kill a puppy for some right now." Rayden said, rubbing his head and I went over, holding out a cup of my concoction to him.

"Don't drink coffee, it won't help much. Try this." I told him.

He took the cup and looked down at it, and I crouched in front of him to see the expression on his face.

I couldn't decipher the look on it. "Drink it."

"What is it?"

I thought about answering it and realized that he probably wouldn't want to know the answer to that. "Just drink it. It will help."

He sniffed it slowly, and his eyes narrowed. "Is this some sort of tea?"

I carefully tried to gage what his reaction would be either way. It wasn't tea, but if that made him not drink it he wouldn't improve as quickly. But if he didn't want to drink it because it was tea, then I would feel bad because I would have helped him get better a lot more quickly. "No, it's more like a coffee."

"That smells like mint?" He asked softly, looking skeptical.

"Trust me, it is nothing like tea. Not even close," I said quietly, meeting his eyes so he would see my sincerity. "Now drink it."

"Why do you want me to so bad?"

"It helps, and not helping you would be a pretty terrible way to repay your kindness last night. So drink."

He raised the cup to his lips and took a huge swig. Effective, but that was going to be disgusting.

Rayden Thorn:

I took a huge swig of the minty tea that Reva handed to me and thought I had run head first into a brick wall, it was vile!

It tasted like mint wrapped around a huge brick covered in pond slime, not pleasant.
I spluttered and choked on the stuff, gagging it down.

“What the flying crap was that?!” I was finally able to shout, the stuff had left a horrible taste in my mouth. Reva narrowed her eyes slightly.

“It's a special drink I make, it will help you feel better. I never said it tasted good.”

“You never warned me it tasted like the back of a toads behind either!” I shuttered- I could still taste it.

“You should finish the cup, really, it will help.” I looked from her face to the half filled cup in my hands then back to her.

“Your joking, right?” she continued to stare at me fixedly.

“Rayden don't be an idiot, She has given it to almost everyone else and they felt better. Finish it.” Dante muttered from the fire.

I looked at the evil tasting liquid in the cup, like I was staring down an enemy. Reva rolled her eyes.

“It's not that bad!”

“Oh yes it is.” I retorted, but I pinched my nose closed and poured the rest of the stuff down my throat.

“Feel better?” she ask sarcastically, with another roll of her eyes.

“You know if you keep doing that, your eyes will stick up there.”

"You know if you keep doing that your eyes will stick up there." He told me.

I felt my temper flare and I raised an eyebrow. "Says the man who has tasted a toad's behind. I'd rather have stuck eyes than have ever come anywhere near the backside of a toad."

"I've never acutally tasted it."

"Then how would you know?"

"I don't." He admitted.

I tilted my head to the side and smiled a little. "So you were lying to me when you said that? I never put you down as a liar Rayden Thorn."

"Not so much a liar Reva, more a bender of certain truths." she wanted a fight, I could see that plainly, I grinned, I would be more than willing to oblige.

"That's still lying." she said planting her hands on her hips.

"Well it all depends on where you look at it. you lied to me earlier."

"I did not!"

"Did to." I said yawning lazily- I had a feeling it would annoy her. "You told me that stuff was like coffee, it was more like tea. Really, really nasty tea, but tea nevertheless."

"Rayden be careful. Don't toy with her, she doesn't look like the type who takes kindly too it. Dante warned me watching the two of us form his golden eyes.

Don't be such a worry wort. I haven't gotten a chance to play in ages, besides she looks up for the challenge.
Dante rolled his eyes and settled back to watch the fun. Reva was glaring daggers at me- this was getting very fun.

"That isn't lying, it is a matter of opinion." she said tossing her head. I shrugged in a non-interested kind of way.

"Whether I was lying or not, is also just a matter of opinion." I faced her head on and gave her one of my smiles.

His smile had me stunned. It was... Incredible. I knew that Rayden was attractive, I had figured that out pretty quickly, but I didn't realize how amazing he would look when he smiled. I'd seen him grin a little, and laugh a little, but never this. This was a full blown smile, which made me realize something- he was enjoying this. He was enjoying messing with me! And the realization only made me want to knock him down even more.

"I beg to differ. Either it tastes like a toad's backside or it does not. You realize that either way you put it right now you are insulting me, right?" I asked, not letting him see how much his smile threw me.

"And the same goes for the coffee or tea. Either it's like coffee, or it isn't." He responded, rising to the bait I set before him.

"It is, because coffee tastes pretty much the same." I added.

"Oh no, you got yourself into this mess! get yourself out!"

Dante! come on. I don't want to look like an idiot.

"As opposed to how you look the rest of the time?" he huffed at me and hunkered down deeper into the coals.

Darn oversize barnyard bird. I muttered mentally at him. he was a nasty piece of work sometimes! I then realized I had never responded to Reva, I looked back to her, she looked defiantly back.

I needed to think quick, I had notice my smile had thrown her slightly when I had used it before. Worth another try. I let one slowly form on my face and I shrugged. she was trying hard not to show something- I wasn't sure what.

"Well," I said, enjoying her discomfiture. "It really doesn't matter. What is in that Toad-Tea anyway?"

If you can't come up with a comeback- change the subject!

He let off another smile, and I think he noticed my reaction to it this time, because he certainly swelled with pride right after I faltered. Unacceptable. He couldn't win that easily.

"So what's in the toad tea?"

I wasn't going to answer that. He didn't want to know anyway. "It isn't tea, trust me darling, if that was soggy leaves right there it wouldn't be half as nasty as it is." I told him, and winked.

His smile slid off and I smirked. "What's in it then?" He asked, a little apprehensively.

"Promise you won't tell?" I had to fight to keep my smile under control, he was just too gullible!

He nodded.

I leaned in close and to whisper in his ear. "Crushed beetles mixed with Elk blood."

I attempted to tie up the rip in the shirt as best I could. The clothes I was wearing were the only clothes I had packed. Stupid of me I know but I needed to make myself appear more of a harmless wanderer, trying to escape the government, then an prissy little girl who had to plan her trip and pack accordingly.

Reva and Rayden were talking, Rayden, having just woken up had the pleasure of experiencing both the brain splitting headache and Reva's special cure. I couldn't help but smile. I watched them for a moment, bickering flirtatiously. I was glad I was not nor ever would be in love. It made them look so ridiculous. I saw the light spread through Reva's face, the admiration, as Rayden smiled. I scrunched up my face. Yech.

I twisted my ankle around in a small rotation, feeling the foreign knife in my boot. Though it was more comforting to have this weapon than none I wanted the gun back too. And I knew Rayden had it some where. Praying that it had not gotten lost or ruined in the water that he had been pushed into. Both weapons were my mothers and upon her death I had taken both, knowing that she would want me to have them.

I stood, pushed myself off from the tree and walked, a bit teetering at first but I regained my steady foot after a moment. The early morning sun hurt my eyes the littlest bit but it didn't matter. I need a second to breath. Walking towards the small river that we had been in earlier, before the attack. I sat on the banking and hummed a snatch of a tune I used to know. It was relatively quiet here, beside the muttering of the water over rocks. And I needed quiet, my head, though the pain was subsiding, still throbbed.

"Now what to do about all of them. Where do I go--what do I do from here?" I mumbled, head resting on my knees again. It was true, all my previous plans had been ruined, or were no longer going to be affective. I needed to think of something. Something quick.

"Hey Everlee..." Niyah said, walking over to their leader. She was suprised, shed expected everyone to be freaking out, but they all had remained calmn. Whatever had happened, well, Davnick was takng care of that. And she had complete faith in him.
So much so, she felt sorry for whomever had dared to disturb them.
"Hmmm?" Everlee murmered, a distant look on her face. The shadow of a smile played at her lips.
"Thinking of Skylar, huh?" Everlee jumped back to reality, eyes wide.
"What! What?" she demanded. Niyah couldn't judge why she'd had such a reaction, but she knew that whatever had happened between the two wasn't good.
Is that why she was crying?
Probably, I overheard them fighting last night. I believe she left him.
What!
She left him.
No! I got that, but you must have misunderstood...
No, my hearing is more accute than yours, Niyah, I heard perfwectly well.
But Everlee would never...
Well, she did.
Niyah glancd over, catching Skylar's gae. His eyes widened, then he quickly turned away.
She broke his heart...
"Mommy, please listen. The shadow men are coming." Niayh's mother laughed, brushing a strand of her daughters hair from her eyes.
"Don't be silly, pet. No one is coming. There are no such thing as monsters."
"But mommy..."
"No more buts, it's time to sleep." her mother kissed her on the head, then left the room. Niyah imediantly slipped out from her sheets and climbed in with her sister.
"Yihanna, im frightened." Niyah whispered. Her sister didn't speak, just wrapped her arms around Niyah and held her tight. The two girls waited in the darkness, waited for the shadow men.

"Niyah?" Niayh blinked, returning from the strange vision. She smiled.

"Well, were you?" Niyah asks.

Of course. "No." My word drips from my lying tongue. There's no way Niyah believes me. She raises an eyebrow. "Yes," I say with a sigh.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Niyah asks.

I shake my head once. "Not really."

Yes, you do, Darren mutters.

No, I don't.

If you aren't going to talk about it with me, talk about it with Niyah. She'll understand.

I don't care. I don't want to talk about my stupid mistakes. These people need a strong leader, and I can't be that if I'm complaining constantly.

This seems like a pretty good reason to complain.

I sigh again. "No, I don't want to talk about it."

This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
