Rook~

Rook glared at Grace until she snorted and turned away, her ears down in defeat as she retreated deeper into the cave. He felt Aliri gracefully leap off his back, her landing soft on the oddly leveled cave floor. "Thanks," she smiled sweetly, showing Rook a side he always believed she had.

"It's no problem," he returned her kindness, one of his ears drooping slightly, bashfully. "Glad you got some sleep actually." He grinned, and then looked to the mouth of the cave. The sun was dipping low on the horizon, signaling it was dusk. Tired as he was, he smiled brightly at everone in the cave.

"Rook, you look tired," Laika observed, her ears folded back.

"I'm alright, really." Rook wagged his tail. "I'll be first to sit watch, anyone want to do it with me?" He turned his words mainly to Aliri, hoping she'd agree.

Hunter~

Hunter, with a sigh, laid down reluctantly. Bailey smiled brightly at him, dazzling him for a moment. He smiled back and grabbed his machete, tossing it somewhere away from him. He felt, now that he'd actually been with the animals for a while, he wouldn't need any more protection other than the dagger in his boot in case they came in contact with his own kind. Hunter yawned and then, slowly, drifted to sleep.

ALIRI

I watched Rook plod to the mouth of the cave. I watched him carefully, trying to sum things up.

"Rook, you look tired," Laika said. I stole a quick glance at her. Her ears were pinned down. She looked a little tired herself. I returned my gaze to Rook.

"I'm alright, really." He wagged his tail. The mutt was much too peppy for his own good. Something I found that I actually admired. "I'll be first to sit watch, anyone want to do it with me?"

I looked around quickly, tail twitching. Well I had gotten enough sleep for the day, I owed it to him. "Well I've got nothing better to do," I muttered, trying to hide my grin as I plodded up to him. "After all, I'm well rested."

Rook~

Rook wagged his tail lazily, rolling his eyes and smiling softly. "Yeah, I know." He teased with a crooked grin, and then shook his fur out, head to claw. He picked up the pace, and then jumped up onto the highest rock outside the cave. "Come on pretty kitty," he winked playfully, "Just how high can you jump?" He teased with a playful smile before turning his head out to the setting sun with a wag of his tail.

"This," Aliri let out a heave, and threw herself up to Rook's height with ease, "high." She purred, and walked passed Rook, unintentionally flicking her tail across Rook's black nose.

Reflex took over, and Rook sneezed... loudly. He laughed with Aliri jumped, and playfully rolled his eyes. "I'm allergic." He teased, raising his lips in a smile.

"To what?" Aliri smiled softly, Rook growling a deep, playful growl.

"You," he laughed softly, and then sat down, head held high as he looked out over the horizon.

I chuckled and sat down beside Rook, staring into the distance. The sun was starting to set and I found myself half hypnotized. I probably should have stopped staring directly at the sun, but I just couldn't force my eyes to go elsewhere. It occurred to me after a few moments that I should blink.

When my eyes opened everything was blotchy. I glanced over at Rook, but his head was replaced by a big purple mass, which for some reason, I found ammusing enough to laugh at. I'm losing it. There really isn't anything funny about that at all... I thought.

"What?" Rook asked, chuckling himself.

I blinked a few times and shook my head. "Absolutely nothing." Things were starting to come back into focus, the little blotches almost completely gone. "I think I should stop staring at the sun."

Rook stared at me skeptically. "That would probably be a good idea."

I stood up and stretched, yawning. I was actually relaxed for once in my life and I was going to relish every second of it. It was strange considering I was now living with a bunch of animals and two young Thumbs, been lugged around by a canine and was now sitting here with that same canine. I should be nervous right now...and yet I wasn't.

"What're you thinking right about now?" I asked, smiling at Rook.

Rook!

Rook smiled up at Aliri from his laying down position, wracking his brain for something to say as his tail thudded against the rock silently. "Right now? As in this very second?" He teased, cocking his head to the side as if he was serious. Aliri looked down at him and shook her head, smirking.

"No, as in tomorrow." She smiled softly, laying down beside him slowly.

"Hmm... I'll probably be thinking about what to e-"

"Rook, you know what I mean," she laughed softly, rolling her big green-yellow eyes. Rook smiled crookedly.

"Honestly, I'm thinking about what'll happen to our home... but I'm also thinking about something else, but that's a secret." He winked at the spotted she-cat whose pelt seemed to glisten in the fading sunlight. "What are you thinking about?" He returned the question, smiling deviously.

BAILEY

Hunter finally went to sleep. I laid back down, and absent-mindedly started stroking his fur, like i did with my dog back on earth. Jake chuckled and looked up at me.
"Having fun?" I stopped, putting my hand down beside me.
"Sorry." He put his head down.
"It's alright, that actually felt nice. I didn't know the young thumbs were nice. So what's it like on your planet?" I sighed.
"Nothing like your planet, it was, years ago... but we have no more green, we killed all the plant life on our planet and most animals have gone extinct." He lifted his head, eyes wide.
"Extinct, like, there's no more of them." I nodded sadly. He put his head down.
"We can't let them do that here, it's not fair, it's your planet." He sighed, turning his head away.
"Get some sleep bailey." I laid down, Jake's breathing becoming heavy. I drifted off to sleep.

"Me?" I gave Rook a lopsided grin. "Well now I'm wondering what you're hiding from me. I was thinking that I'm going mad or something." I sighed and rested my head in my paws, watching Rook out of the corner of my eye. He was quite the dog, that one.

"Mad?" He tilted his head to the side.

"Very, very mad. I'm guessing the other cats all think I'm absolutely insane right about now too." I stared at the sunset, suddenly deep in thought. Usually I would be thinking about the Thumbs and how to rip their flesh from their bodies, but.... Not tonight. Tonight I was too busy wondering if this was that wonderful/horrible thing that was supposed to happen today. Well, if it was I wasn't going to complain, just question the laws of nature a little.

Rook~

Rook looked over at Aliri, whose eyes were shimmering in the fading sunlight. He sent her a lopsided grin and scooted a little closer, so their pelts were touching. He laid his huge head on his paws, gazing out at the sunset. "Beautiful isn't it?" Aliri smiled over at him, Rook's eyes meeting hers.

"I know something more beautiful," he murmured, as he looked away. Aliri tilted her head to the side.

"What was that?" She asked, obviously not having heard him.

"I said yeah, yeah it is," Rook smiled softly down at her, flexing his paws at the thoughts running through his mind.

I arched an eyebrow, grinning from ear to ear. It didn't sound like he had said that, but whatever. I would let it slide. "Earlier today I had this strange haunch that something either completely horrific or completely wonderful was going to happen later on."

Rook cocked his head to the side. "Oh?"

My grin broadened and I gave a slight nod. "I'm starting to think that it's happened already."

"And is this thing horrific or wonderful?" His tail wagged slightly.

"Mmm...I think it's pretty wonderful. But you never know." I winked and stood up, resisting the urge to start purring again. One thing I rarely did was purr, but today seemed to be an exception to that. I suppose that today was just a good day in general, despite being stuck with two young Thumbs and a bunch of other animals and getting splashed so badly I had caught a chill. Today was a very good day indeed.

"Well..." Rook drew out, "Let's hope it stays that way, huh? Besides, I like you better this way," He winked and smirked over at her, eyes playful. Aliri smiled back, rolling her eyes. "I'm serious Aliri." Rook grinned, completely serious but trying hard to show it. Aliri was silent for a moment, her eyes glistening with the last of the sunlight, which slowly disappeared and was replaced by the twin moons, both whole and bright in the sky.

"I'm sure," Aliri laughed softly. Either she wasn't getting it, or she got it and didn't want to get it. Rook sighed softly, looking up at the moons.

"Isn't it funny how... their are always two of everything, but they're always a little, or a lot different." Rook thought for a moment. "For one, the moons. There's two of them, but they're almost identical. And then... you have the maple tree, with ivy growing on it. The both of them, together, is two, but they're one, and they're completely different." Rook stood to his feet, smiling at Aliri. "I'm not makin' any sense, am I?"

**Fiction, we're all at Jake's cave. Rook and Aliri are outside keeping watch, but everybody else is in the cave**

ALIRI

I chuckled. "Actually, you make more sense than most people I've met." It was true, mostly. I liked the way he thought, it was different. Relatable.

"Really?" He cocked his head to the side again, which was dare I say sort of cute.

"Really really." I winked. "I suppose there are lots of things that work that way. Maybe I'm not the only one going against the laws of nature here." I was grinning playfully, rather enjoying myself. My grin turned into a smirk and I jumped onto Rook's back, catching my balance and sitting.

"What are you doing?"

I put my two front paws on his head. "I can see much better from up here. Plus it's much more comfortable than stone."

Rook~

Rook chuckled softly, secretly listening to the Aliri's purrs. She obviously didn't realize she was doing it. Rook tilted his head back, looking at her upside down. "Purr, purr," he teased, laughing when Aliri lightly clubbed him in the ear. He snickered, licking his muzzle.

"Oh shut it, I'm comfortable." Aliri purred, smirking.

"Well, that's obvious," Rook winked back at her. She hissed playfully, and Rook laughed softly, gazing out into the forest. Aliri was gazing up at the moon, and Rook moved a little, getting comfortable with her on his broad back.

Twee! Twee!

Rook's head rocketed back to looking at the forest, large shadows moving through the trees. Aliri was still looking up... did she not hear them? Something sharp, metallic, glinted in the moonlight, and Rook quickly reacted. He shoved Aliri off his back quickly, the arrow taking a chunk from his flank. He hissed in pain, angrily.

"R-Rook!" Aliri cried, alarmed at everything.

"Wake everyone up!" Rook barked, looking at her. "Please," he turned around, about to leap from the rock and chase after the Thumbs in the woods.

"No, I'm coming with you!" Aliri called, Rook turning back to her. Quickly, he nuzzled her spotted shoulder, laying his large head across her neck.

"No you're not. I'll be fine. Get the others out of here, and I'll catch up, I swear." He smiled softly, debating whether or not he'd say what he wanted. I may not come back... He thought, and smiled at Aliri softly. "I'll see you again, soon I promise. Now get the others and go!" He turned back to the forest, looking. Two thumbs. Easy enough. "I love you," he winked back at her and then leaped, landing with a soft thud before disappearing into the forest. He could smell their retched stench.

Letting out a howl of a chase, Rook ran after them, his paws pounding the grounds in a fast rhythm.

JAKE

Aliri ran inside. She looked terrified. I sprung up, waking bailey and her probable mate.
"what's wrong?" She looked up at me.
"Thumbs are attacking in the area!" I looked back and scowled at the thumbs. Did they set us up?
"where's rook?" I asked looking at the entrance of the cave, he wouldn't be dumb enough to go off alone right?
"He went after them." she mutted, obviously agreeing that it was dumb.
"Ok, take the thumbs and get out of here girls." I said stepping towards the entrance. Aliri stopped me.
"Your not ditching us with thumbs." She scowled in there direction.
"Fine then, ill go with you grace, and whoever else wants to go after rook." They nodded and aliri was stuck with the thumbs anyways. I walked over and told bailey to get on my back. Hunter heled her on, they moved so slow. When she was on i nodded at aliri.
"Put the back, watch the boy."
