ALIRI

I pinned my ears back and glared at the Thumb. "Go. Now." He started walking and I followed closely, Rook's words ringing in my ears. I love you... Nobody had ever actually loved me... and now the one who did was running around chasing Thumbs.

I figured that now was a good time to be disobedient. I ran up to Jake, snarling at him. "I'm going after him, you can take Hunter."

He opened his mouth to protest, but by then I was already gone. I knew my way around, and I knew how to sneak. I love you... Stupid mutt. How dare he make me love him back? Honestly... I stopped, listening intently, my tail twitching.

My ears turned towards voices, shouting voices. Shouting Thumb voices and what I swore to be Rook growling. I kept low, slinking through trees. Go find him, go tell him.

Rook~

Rook had one of the two thumbs pinned beneath his paws, his jaws dangerously close to his jugular. "Drop all your weapons," Rook snarled, his lips raising over his teeth. The man beneath him wiggled, his attempts futile. The second man slowly dropped his weapons, eyes wide and terrorfied. Rook snarled loudly, making the man under his paws cry out in fear. "Now... go." Rook barked, the second man yelping and running off. Rook stepped off the man beneath him.

"P-please, I swear I'll never harm another alien animal, I promise, I promise, I promise!" The man pleaded. "I have a wife, and two kids, please let me live!" Rook didn't know whether or not to believe the man, as he was the one who'd shot him with the arrow.

"G-go." Rook snarled, trying to hide the pain in his voice. The arrow was still embedded in his flank, which was bleeding heavily. The man scurried from the ground, dropped his weapons, and ran off, crying out after his partner.

Taking a couple wobbly steps, Rook hissed in pain, finally dragging his lame leg as he hopped on the three others. Pain seered from the one injury, flaring all over his body. He couldn't call out for help, it just wouldn't be fair. Rook pushed through the pain, and continued to limp, this action only causing more blood to fall from the wound.

I was breathing heavily, panicking. Stupid chill had my nose plugged, what little scent skills I had were completely useless. Come on Rook... I begged him silently. If he was gone I swear I would run straight to the nearest Thumb camp and kill off every single one of them.

Finally, some sound managed to get to me. A quiet whimper. Rook. My eye twitched as I slunk towards the sound, heart hammering.

I stopped cold when I saw him. Blood was seeping from a wound, he was limping around on three legs. I blinked, coming to my senses and rushed to his side. "Lay down," I whispered. He just stared at me. "Now." I added a bit of edge to my voice, feeling only the slightest guilt.

He obeyed reluctantly. I had no idea what to do now, so I just flopped down beside him. "I have no idea how to help you." I sighed and stared into his eyes, smiling weakly. "Oh, and I love you too."

Rook~

Rook smiled goofily, wincing in slight pain as the wind whipped against the arrow shaft. "I'm glad you do," he nuzzled Aliri softly, unable to get the goofy smile off his face. "The thumbs we have with us, they'll know how to get it out." He smiled softly, motioning towards the long arrow. "It just hurts," he panted, laying his head down gently.

"We'll figure something out," Aliri smiled softly, worry hinting in her voice as she laid her head against Rook's gently. Suddenly, the bushes beside Rook shook violently. He jumped up to his feet, growling. Grace barrelled through, wide eyed.

"Rook!" She ran at him, licking his ear quickly and happily. "I'm glad you're alright!" She smiled, Rook grinning weakly.

"M-me too Gr-" before he could finish his sentence, Rook fell forward, darkness surrounding him.

"Go get Jake and the thumbs!" He heard Aliri snarl before everything faded out.
