Name: Astri Jade Cooper [known as Astri]

Gender: Female

Age (15-18): 16, but looks younger, about 14

Personality:
Quite naive, acts younger than she is, not immature, just not street-wise. Still quietly wishes she was still a child and could play games like she used too, she's not ready for all this 'teen' stuff that is happening and doesn't want to grow up. Quite secretive because she's embarrassed about her young nature and sometimes puts up a tough front to others.

Special gift ie. mind reading, kinetics, control 1 element:
Astri can control people's minds to make them think and do things she wants them to, but doesn't know it yet. Sometimes she'll think things and they'll happen, but she just thinks it's a strange coincidence.

Likes/Dislikes:
Likes being alone, or with people who like to play games. Dislikes the idea of relationships and growing up.

Appearance:
Light brown hair, short, small features. Her child-like looks mean that people try to look after her a lot.

Astri

I was sitting in the garden playing an imaginary game with my dolls when I saw a van pull up to the front of my house. Three men got out the front and went to the door. Looking back, I guess the oddest part about it was that I didn't find it odd. At that moment, I was happy just sitting playing my games.

"Astri!" My mother called. "Come inside, please."

I walked in to see the men sitting on a sofa in the living room talking to my father. When they noticed me they stopped abruptly. "Rude", I thought.

"Astri, I'm afraid we have some news," my father said, and my mind raced as I imagined the worst. "These men have come to take you away from us-"

"What? Why?" I interrupted.

"To fulfill your destiny," he looked at me, deadpanned. I couldn't believe it. It was like some crazy game I'd invented and for a moment I wondered if I was still sat on the grass in the garden, imagining things. I shut my eyes and shook my head, unable to take this in.

"Seriously?" I asked. What more could I say?

"I'm afraid you have to leave us. We've packed your things already."

I could feel a lump forming in my throat. Why were they sending me away? My destiny? Why couldn't I fulfil my destiny with them? Didn't they want me here? I looked at my mother. She was staring at the floor, seemingly trying not to cry.

"Mommy, please don't let them take me!" I cried.

"Please, Astri, don't be difficult. They'll explain when you arrive. Just go."

Just GO?? How could they say this? Then the men began to take me out the house. The next part is all a blur. I remember a rush of tears and screaming (all from me), and the next thing I knew I was sat in the back of a van with five other teenagers. The last time I saw my parents they were stood together at the curb waving me off as the black van doors slammed in my face.

Cain

The baby-faced girl came in screaming. I wasn't surprised. She was small, but even if she was ten or eleven, it was still way too old to be playing with dolls.

"What's your name?" I didn't bother waiting for the kid to turn around. The others jumped in surprise at my voice. I guess they hadn't noticed me come on. Probably I was the only one who came in without a fuss.

The newest arrival finally turned around, her face flushed and lips set in a pout. She glared at me and didn't answer. I chuckled under my breath and stopped paying attention.

This was getting boring. I yawned loudly, then stretched myself out down the length of the seat. My head ended up in the hot brunette's lap. Lakiki, I think? Perfect.

"Hey, it's alright," I said, worried. The new girl seemed to be taking it worse than any of us.

The guy called Cain layed his head on Lakiki's lap. Oh, yes, try to make it seem like the situation doesn't suck, I wanted to say, but I tried to keep a positive attitude like the other girl had said to. Positive, positive, yeah, right.

Elizabeth Black:

It was beginning to get much to stiffling. Everything around her seemed to constrict. Sure she was calm at first, but she hated being inside a house, much less a funny thing like this 'van' with six other people and three animals, including an odd snake one of the girls had. Sabe sat up, noticing her uncomfort, and rubbed his head against her jaw, while purring, trying to get Elizabeth to calm down. She eventually took a deep breath, and closed her eyes, humming to herself. Crim curled into a little ball, tucking her head under a wind, and fell asleep on Eli's shoulder, Eli eventually leaning against one of the others in the van, closing her eyes with a yawn. She didn't know who she was leaning on, and she really didn't care.

LAKISHA

The others were already socializing with eachother. I smirked and ran a finger across Claw's head and down his slinky body. He crawled across my shoulder and hissed at the mountain lion that was seated on the floor. The beast growled, but didn't attack.

Nobody really payed me much attention. I wouldn't pay me much attention either, though. I was slightly creepy and the grin on my face probably didn't seem normal. No matter, I like my solitude. I never really socialized much with the fellow villagers anyways, none of them really knew me. I stroked Claw thoughtfully again.

I thought of creating an illusion of a snake on the boy I knew only as Kaylayan's lap. I knew he hated snakes. It would add some humor to the room...I decided not to. I didn't need a screaming teenage boy in the van with me. Then again...

I smirked and focused. A small illusion wouldn't tire me too much. I'd only keep it for a few seconds, long enough for everybody to see it and start a panic. I visualized the snake in my head. A king cobra. Big and male. My smirk widened and I made it so.

He screached. I chuckled. The rest of the van was in a frenzy.

STELLA

"Kayalan, calm down. Jeeze, your such a baby." I teased as I reached to grab the snake from his lap only to find it was gone.

He frowned and said, "Nuh uh, I just snakes. Where did it go? Someone better find it!"

"Chill out," said Lakisha calmly, "I was just having some fun. You scare easy."

"S-s-so that was y-you? How d-d-did you to that?" stuttered Kayalan, clearly still shaken.

I snickered and pointed out the obvious, "Duh, it's obviously her gift. Just an illusion man, relax."

I smiled and nodded to Stella. Smart girl. Kayalan glared at me and I snickered. That was uncalled for. This might not be such a great time to be making enemies. I scolded myself. Whatever. The snake hater would live.

He eyed my viper suspiciously. "This?" I asked inoccently. He nodded. "No, that's very much real. He's quite venomous too." I grinned at his horrified expression. Claw seemed to sense my mean sense of humor and stretched himself half off of my shoulder and hissed at Kalayan. He pulled back.

"Get that thing away from me now !" He demanded.

I chuckled and pulled him back. For a moment everybody was silent. Perfect, beautiful silence. I glanced out the window. If I didn't get out of this stupid thing soon I thought I would burst.

This girl kind of reminded me of the boys in the town village. They had all gotten snakes just to annoy me. Woop dee do.

So now I had a bad impression with the people I'd be spending who-knows-how-long with. I was just great at this kind of a thing, wasn't I?

I didn't bother trying to scare her with fire. It really wasn't worth and, with my luck, I'd set the entire thing ablaze. Although that might not be such a bad thing.

A flame sparked on my fingertips and I blew it out quickly. I had just had to make sure that it was alright. That my power still worked.

I'd need it where we were going, I was sure.

I sighed. I needed out of this stupid van. It was hot and Claw obviously wasn't enjoying it either. Back to boredome. Back to thoughts of my fathers willingness to give me up so easily... I stopped myself. This was really not the time for emotional thoughts.

"What's your snakes name Lakisha?" Stella asked absently.

I glanced at her and lifted my hood a bit. "Claw," I muttered, lowering my hood back to its original postition.

"You creep me out," Kalayan hissed.

I raised and eyebrow at him, though I didn't think he would be able to see it. "Do I now? You're a very naive person, Kalayan."

He just glared at me. I couldn't hold back a smirk.

This was really driving me crazy. I was in a car with a snake. Great. My family had left me behind, there was a snake in here, you know, my day was going just great.

"Can I ask you all what the heck is going on, if anyone can guess?" Lakisha opened her mouth. "OTHER than the obvious," I said quickly.

"Other than the obvious," he snapped.

I rolled my eyes. "If you know the obvious, then there really isn't much left to figure out. We're being taken away in a van to who-knows-where to do who-knows-what who-knows-when."

"I thought I said other than the obvious," he growled.

I shrugged. What did it even matter? I stroked claw absently, ignoring the growling mountain lion. Kalayn wasn't the only one who didn't like snakes. I reached over and stroked the animal's head. "Shh, Sabe," I murmered.

I didn't even know his master's name. I had no idea how I knew the cat's name. It didn't really matter though. I scanned the others, trying to find something interesting. I wasn't much for conversation, but I would do anything to get my mind off of being so enclosed.

Nothing interesting came to mind.

I closed my eyes and leaned back. Suddenly, the cart jerked to a stop and we were taken out. I tried to fight them- I still wasn't over this- but suddenly I found myself knocked out.
~~~
I woke up in a room. A man was speaking. He saw me, and his lips curled. "I see you've finally decided to come to," He said, in a slightly mocking voice. Lakisha helped me to my feet, careful to make sure the snake was on her other arm, even though I'm pretty sure she was tempted to put it near me.
"As I was saying..." the man continued.
