Yes, I have read a book before. Many actually. But whatever, don't break it down. The only reason I asked in the first place was because I'm not a very good reader. It takes me forever. By the time I finish reading, sometimes more people have posted and my post is off.

I'm sorry for being so stupid. You don't need to break it down. I was kind of in a bad mood and got irritated at little things.

Okay, I read it. You're very descriptive! You should definitely become on author when you grow up! :D

Catherine

As quick as we got there, the magekiller was gone with Lorie. We sped after his car as fast as fast as we could, knowing that he would be now match when we caught up. We outnumbered him by a long shot.

"HE BLOCKED THE STUPID TELEPORT SYSTEM!" Emmett said, cursing under his breath.

"He's not that stupid." Cutter said to him. Emmett wasn't even listening though. He was too concentrated on getting to Lorie.

The group moved as fast as we could, but I wasn't even sure we were all together. Cutter, Emmett, Millie, and I had run off so fast, I didn't know if the others had known where we went.

Finally, we reached the police station.

Interesting choice of stage. I thought. But I don't see how it can be an advantage for him...maybe he is that stupid.

Cutter chuckled a little at that.

I felt so bad for Emmett. His love had been kidnapped. Even though I would hate seeing it, if Emmett got a hold of that magekiller, I wouldn't blame him for beating the crap out of him.

Our eyes were focused on Lorie on the ground. I would've popped the ground right up and flung her over to us, knowing that Emmett would hear my idea and be ready to catch her, but I didn't want to hurt her. I had another idea, though.

I slowly and carefully moved the ground beneath Lorie closer to us. It was hardly noticeable, but the magekiller should have been expecting a move like that.

Just when I was sure he wouldn't be able to get her, I moved the ground as fast as I could. In a slip second Lorei was at Emmett's feet. He picked her up and held her in his arms for a while.

The magekiller looked flabbergasted for a second, but then he started to smirk. I looked at Emmett, Cutter, and Millie. They were all confused too. Turning around, I noticed a car behind us.

Crud! I thought. Cutter got my message along with a mental picture of what it was. I wasn't sure if Emmett was, but at least some of us were ready.

The car door slammed, and we all tensed, ready for another fight.

[xD Why in the world would Adam put Lorei in the middle of the floor? Ah, well, I'll go with it :3]

Adam was happy because Jessica pulled up in her nice, pretty car. They whipped out their guns, got Lorei back and the mages retreated. Victory.

[I'm tired D: Feel free to ignore. No, please ignore. Good night :D]

>>>Ignoring...<<<

Cutter,

Everything's happening so quickly, I don't know what to do. Our teleportation has been blocked, and so has our mind reading. The only reason I know where the magekiller is, is by his car. The car where Lorei is, captive. I grit my teeth. What did they have against mages, anyway? What had we ever done to the general populace? Yes, there were murderous mages out there, but there are murderous normal people, too.

When we see the magekiller's car come to a stop, we slow down. A police station? Really? I think sarcastically, what a melodramatic moron. Good lord.

*I'm so lost, so if something's inaccurate in my post feel free to point it out!*

Jess

at the plice sttion. dnt brng jon or ken. the mages fnd me. i hav the girl. b careful.

I slid my phone shut, thinking rapidly. Obviously he was in trouble and in need of help - but why the hell wouldn't I bring the others? I grappled with the situation for a moment, then muttered, "Dammit!" before grabbing my keys and dashing to my car. I hopped in and started driving downtown.

Need help @ policestation, mages here. I typed it, but didn't send it. All it would take was one hit of the send button and the others would be able to get to us if need be. Hopefully in time.

I screeched up in front of the police station, my cocked gun in my right hand and my phone hidden behind my back. I stepped out just in time to see four mages, one of whom was the girl I had injured, and the captured human girl. They stopped in surprise as I held my gun at them.

"Hello again," I snarled, and hit the send button on my phone. My mind was racing as I saw the mages brace themselves for another fight.

"Before you blast me with dirt and zap out of here, I'd like to talk." I had no idea what to talk about, but I was stalling. And where the hell is Adam?

"About what?" the leader asked suspiciously.

I studied him for a moment; he looked to be no older than me, yet here he was bravely defending his little group.

His little group of killers, I reminded myself grimly.

"Terms," I replied. "Say, you all turn yourselves in and forego your use of powers."

"And what do we get in return?" asked the other guy, who was holding our captured mage in his arms.

I pretended to ponder, and saw Adam advancing from behind them, some sort of gun in his hands. I realized that he had a magenet; a weapon that shot a net out and was resistant to any of their powers.

Now we've got them, I thought in satisfaction.

I cocked the gun, smirking at the mages from behind, watching them so ignorantly dicuss irrelevancies with Jessica. I'm glad she came. From inside my car I had called inside the station, telling the officers that we had serveral bloodthirsty mages outside. To make matters over with quick though, I reached for the gun that carried a net resistant to all magic. I didn't use it much; it wasn't often when a group of mages were all standing right next to one another.

The net burst out of the gun and wrapped itself tightly around them. Shocked, they struggled against it, pushing and ripping with the ocassional attempt to gnaw through the rope. Within seconds a dozen magekillers and policemen sprinted out of the station, half pausing to talk to me, half dealing with the jumble of people trapped within the net. "Are these the mages?" One of them asked. I told him yes, thank you for coming out to help. "No problem. Don't worry, we'll deal with everything now. It was a smart thing to lead them to the station." He looked at the mages. "I wonder.. why they followed you?"

I shook my head, smiling bitterly. "I honestly can't tell you. Perhaps the mages don't have the mental capacity to think logically like humans can." The police man laughed and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, shaking me. "Oh," I called out to the other officers by the mages. "In the red girl, there's a girl that's been illegally housing them," I told them. I couldn't forget about that blonde girl; she could be trouble. Two burly, uniformed men jogged over to the car and took the girl out, cuffing her and carrying her into the station. She was still asleep. I glanced over at Jessica and winked at her, nodding upward toward the entrance. It was over, finally. For now, at least.

Jessica and I watched the officer dump us off on a bench, telling us to wait. I looked at her and smiled, taking her hand, lacing her fingers with my own and playing with them, moving them back and forth, up and down. "I'm glad you came," I said, looking at the floor. I wasn't very good at this. She looked at me quizically. I chuckled nervously. "You did a good job stalling them."

"They're all idiots," she rationalized. I naturally agreed, my eyes running down to the cold, tiled floor. Each square was scuffed and filthy, the original bright white now a dirty gray. "Why did you tell me not to bring the others?" She asked me. I looked back up at her.

I was still holding her hand. Had she noticed? I smiled at her softly, cocking my head slightly to the side as I looked her over. She had soft features; a small nose, a pout mouth, large, curious eyes. So intuitive. I bit my lip to stop myself from smiling wider. "When you were hurt, I got.. I was worried, Jessica," I mumbled. "Look: I had the entire policeforce behind me to fight the mages. I just.. I wanted you here because I wanted to keep you near me so I knew at all times that you were okay." She blinked, baffled. I just wanted her near me in general, but she didn't have to know that yet. "No telling when a rogue mage is going to go after one of us," I laughed, trying to make the moment lighthearted.

*changed! Thanks RedBird!*

Jess

As Adam held my hand, gently playing with my fingers, I felt my face heating up. The way he was smiling at me; the way he hesitated as he talked about "keeping me close to him"; the way his gaze held mine...

Oh geez no, I thought. He-he's too old for me! I was almost seventeen-next week was my birthday-and he looked to be about twenty, albeit a young twenty.

Adam said something as a jest, and laughed, but I barely registered the fact.

"Adam..."

He instantly quieted and stared intently at me.

I took a deep breath. "I..." My mind blanked, and I didn't know what to say, or how to say what was on my mind. My face was a bright red now, I knew, and I stared down at our entwined fingers.

Just then, the door opened and Ken and Jon's voices were heard talking. Adam and I sprang up, releasing hands, and greeted our fellow magekillers.

"We got your text, Jess," Ken said. "Where are the mages?"

"Captured," I replied, hoping my voice wasn't trembling. "They're outside in a magenet."

"Let's see them," Jon growled.

We started out the door, but as Ken and Jon left, Adam grabbed my shoulder and whispered in my ear, "I want to hear what you have to say. Let's meet up later. Just us."

Lorei

"Where am I?" I ask, suddenly waking up. I am in a large room with two chairs, and a desk. I am sitting in one of the chairs.

"Police HQ." A man says. I turn my head. A cop stands in the doorway. I can't remember why I am here.

"What did I do?" I ask.

"Don't play stupid, girl." He says. Suddenly, the memories all flood back. But I have a plan.

"Was I drinking?" I ask. This plan could work.

"No, you were hiding mages." He says.

"Was I? I don't recall. In fact, my aunt hates mages. Why would I help them. They are murderers. Have you seen my aunt, she is scared from a fight between them." I say, keeping my voice groggy.

The officer leaves, and I formulate the rest of my plan.

Jessica looked me, appearing a bit uncertain. Her eyebrows furrowed as she bit her lip, glancing at me, then back outside at the scene of officers gathered around, yelling orders to one another. "Come on," Jon called, and the three others jogged toward the mages. I stayed back, walking slowly. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so forward with Jessica. She couldn't be younger than seventeen, maybe eighteen. Trying to shake her off my mind, I approached one of the policemen.

A young boy was outraged, ripping at the net, screaming. He looked to be about my age. His dark hair whipped at his face as he moved about, pushing back the other mages as he yelled. The officers backed away, and the boy went to take a shot at one of them, but the net sprung back as he threw himself against it. He was sceaming so loud his voice was cracking; something about a girl named Lauren.

The officers took their time consulting one another, several yards away from the almost ferocious young man. Their backs turned to them, I could see that they held a large, black rifle that shone against the blistering sun. It was May, and it was hot. Soon enough they dispersed, and one man put the rifle to his eye. The young man stopped moving, and the mages behind him instictively dropped to their knees, their hands over their heads. The eyes of a young girl in the back were so wide my heart almost broke. Almost.

The gun fired, and the young man that was so wild, so full of life, his heart pounding, the back of his neck drenched in sweat, was down on the concrete. "EMMETT!" The younger girl screamed. A moment later she was also down, and then another one, and then another one. I was unfazed. Their terror is what wrenched emotion from my heart, but the killings did nothing. They were like flies dropping from the sky.

I hadn't been close enough to see what they had actually been shooting. I stepped closer to what I had thought were corpses; tiny vials stuck out of their necks, empty of liquid. Tranquilizers. I sighed -- the force was getting too merciful. We needed these mages dead. I turned to Jon, Jessica and Ken, who looked up at me, and just stood there, not knowing really what to do. I sighed and glanced at the ground before a man walked up to me, looking baffled.

His suit and tie looked pressed, and I could smell the burn of the iron on his clothing. "The girl that was harboring the mages, she seems to have no recollection of anything," he claims, and I roll my eyes, wanting to slap him hard across the face. Was he serious? Was this a joke?

"You have to be kidding me," I said. The man says I know, but you're the one who told us... "No, that they would hire somebody as unqualified, as gullible, as dull as an idiot like you." I folded my arms and strolled inside. The man narrowed his eyes and walked with me. "Obviously she's making up a story, you fool. Are you honestly going to let her go after a couple of simple questions? 'Oh, were you hiding the mages? No? Okay, free to go, because I'm a goddamn idiot.' Look, one of the mages out there was screaming his head off for the girl, so I recommend you put him in the room with her when he wakes up."

"What? Why would we do that?" He inquired. Idiot. Idiots. I hate everybody.

"Just do it," I sneered. I could tell what he was going to ask next. Why should I listen to you? He asked defiantly. I ran my fingers throw my hair, frustrated. Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out my wallet and showed him my badge. His mouth hung agape for a moment or two.

He recovered and looked away from me, his face turning red. "I'm - I'm sorry Captain," he apologized. I may have only been a magekiller for three years, but I've a quickly raced through the ranks due to my ability to work hard, work quickly, and work efficiently. No mage nor criminal has survived me. These rookie magekillers honestly had no idea whom they were running around with. I've done background checks: Jonathon joined the force barely a year ago, and he still remained but a simple officer; Kennedy was barely an officer, if that -- it seems that those within the force could see her determination, her fight, her will to track down and murder each mage she found, but she had no talent, and she was underage. It was very dangerous, what she doing. I have no idea as to why they're hiring magekillers ar such a young age. They're putting children at risk.

Now, Jessica.. She knew what she was doing. She joined not even a year ago, but she's already hunted dozens of mages, making an impressive amount of arrests. The fire in her.. it was outstanding. I cleared my throat. Enough about Jessica, yet, I couldn't forget to meet her later. My heart began to race simply thinking about it. She.. she was not special. Not yet. It hasn't been long - get yourself together, Adam. Don't move too quickly, you can't afford distractions.

I found a couple other magekillers hanging around the front desk. Those were the people you wanted to interrogate the girl, not this idiot. Magekillers held no mercy for mages, and they have a good eye for liars. Even if she was lying, we'll find out her identity. We know where the mages have been hiding, each house. One of them must have belonged to her. "Hey," I called to them. I told them about the girl, and I said not to let her go under any circumstances. Recognizing me, they quickly set out toward the room. I walked back toward the front door; the others were approaching me. "The girl's going to be lying to the interrogators," I informed them. "You can't let her fool them. If she does, we'll be screwed. Can you and Ken keep a close eye on the girl and the magekillers questioning her?" I asked Jon.

Jon looked at Ken, then at me, and then nodded determinedly, he and Ken also making their way toward the interrogation room. I glanced at Jessica. I wasn't very tall, only 5'6", 5'7", and we stood about the same height. I felt like my fingers were drenched in sweat, and I hesitated. I took my hands and intertwined my fingers, as if nonchalantly. Completely dry. My licked my lips because they felt absurdly dry, and she looked at me, her eyes confused, unsure. "Come," I said confidently, although I was anything but.

Cutter,

Pain. That's all I can think. We've finally been captured. I suppose I knew that it would happen eventually, but I'd always hoped....maybe that Catherine and I could get together, have a nice life...but now. We were going to die. Here. Now. In this net that's ripping my powers to shreds. And then they're raising guns, aiming them that us. I scream obscenities at them, at the top of my voice, calling them child-murderers, baby killers. And then they fire, and all goes black.

>>>Sorry that it's so short, but I can't really do anything until we wake up.<<<

Jess

Adam gently guided me to a secluded room with chairs, where I sat. He closed the door behind him and seated himself beside me.

"So..." He glanced up at me, his fingers folded in his lap. "What were you going to say before we were interrupted?"

"I-I don't know," I stammered, trying to keep my voice level.

"Then...can I say something?"

He suddenly took my hands in one of his and with his other he brushed the hair from my eyes. I met his gaze as he said, "I...really admire you and your abilities. You're a great fighter and I'm glad to have you on my team. And..." his face reddened, matched only by my furiously blushing cheeks, "I think you're rather attractive."

If I hadn't been so nervous, I would have laughed at his awkwardness. Poor boy; though he may have been twenty-something, he was feeling no more at ease with this than I was, which made me feel better. As it was, all I could manage was a faint smile, which made him smile back at me in a hopeful manner. And then I felt horrible for encouraging him.

"Adam," I sighed, standing up. He held onto my hand, no matter how hard I pulled, and I finally gave up. "Listen. There's too much of an age difference."

"By how much?"

"I'm almost seventeen."

He was quiet for a moment, then said softly, "I just turned twenty-one."

"See? Four years. I'm not even an adult yet. I just-"

"Why wouldn't it work?" he asked, looking up at me with a pleading expression. I had no idea how to deal with him as he was now; I felt comfortable enough when he was in his steady, calculating state of mind for dealing with mages, but this longing look--I didn't know what to do.

"Is it because you don't like me?" he asked.

"No, no, it's not that, I don't not like you, it's just that you're too old and I'm too young and-" I broke off, realizing I was rambling and making an incoherent mess of my feelings. I looked down at Adam, expecting to see understanding and resolve. Instead, to my surprise, he was smiling at me.

"So you do like me, then," he stated, rising to his feet. He was a couple inches taller than me, I noticed, and his eye level almost matched mine.

I glanced down at my feet and murmured, "Yes."

[I was giggling profusely the entire time I was reading that :3 Oh, Adam, you romantic, you]

My heartbeat quickened. Oh God, what was I doing? My smirk wouldn't keep off my lips; everytime I tried to get rid of it, it would crawl back on more defiantly than before. I clenched and unclenched my fists, trying to loosen up my limbs. Seventeen. Not bad, not bad. I turned twenty-one just two weeks ago. Four years. What's four years? Four years is nothing. Nothing.

Jessica didn't seem to think it was nothing. Sitting down, her hands were cradled in her lap, and she rocked back and forth slowly, her eyes intensly focused on the floor. I felt like an asshole standing up, so I plopped back down in the chair, causing her head to jerk up, and her eyes to stare into mine. They sparkled against the muted ceiling light above us, and seemed to brighen up the dull, uniform corner, with it's cracked, white paint and piles of dust spread about the floor tiles. I was hesitant to touch her hand, so I didn't. Instead I just stared at her, my lips parted, my throat dry. I was good at a lot of things: hunting mages, shooting mages, intimidating mages, dancing, running, gymnastics, being awkward. But not at this. I was not. Good. At this.

She turned away. I silently cursed myself for coming off so creepy. My complexion was pasty, my hair was dull and ruffled and I was sweating like a pig. Like a pig. Inconspicuously I glanced at my underarms, but they were dry. I intertwined my fingers again. Dry. Nonchalantly I scratched the back of my neck. Soaking. Shit. Okay. Don't panic. She doesn't care. Would she care? Should she care? If she cared, would that be good? Don't all girls care? Am I a girl if I care so much?

It was quiet. It was too quiet. I was acting like a sophomoric, cocky teenage boy, and as much as I loved those days, they were over. I attempted to clear my throat in a very man-like fashion, but I ended up squeaking instead. Both of my hands flew to my mouth, and I slapped my palms over one another. Jessica giggled. My shoulders suddenly relaxed, and I leaned forward the slightest bit. Take advantage of the moment; she just giggled. Laughter does a person happy. Makes a person happy. Whatever. What is wrong with me? "So," I began. She quieted abruptly. Back to being quiet. Great. "Four years isn't much," I tried convince her. "You're seventeen, I'm twenty one. You'll be twenty, I'll be twenty four. You'll be sixty four, I'll be sixty eigh--"

"Let me stop you there," she interupted. I frowned. I hated being cut off, but I didn't want to worsen the situation. "It's.. the age difference.. you're right, it's not a lot. But I don't know if I would be able to live up to your expectations Adam; you seem very.. independent, and if somebody else wanders in to your life, particularly me, they might not be able to satisfy you and your emotional needs." The red in her face had faded, and her mouth was a pout, straight line. I didn't know what to say to her. But she liked me. She liked me, didn't she? That should be all that matters, since it's most relevant and irrelevant thing right now.

I swallowed the big mess of saliva that had pooled in my mouth, because I had been so still. I tapped my fingers against one another thoughtfully, biting my lip, wondering what to reply with, how to convince her. Perhaps I should wonder why I want to convince her in the first place. My eyes slid back to her face, her soft skin, her inquisitive eyes, her serious expression, her soft hair that rested against her shoulders. But not her specifically, just.. a girl in the first place. Do I need a girl? Living alone does get.. lonely, and developing an infatuation is but natural for a young man my age. It could strengthen our work relationship; we could capture more mages, make the city of Rossain free of magic and it's bloodthirsty wielders.

Finding the confidence to snatch her hand again, I grabbed it swiftly and squeezed it. I smiled brightly, which seemingly made her confused, as she looked at me with a baffled expression. "Don't worry," I told her. "My emotional needs don't meet a high demand; I know what to look for Jessica, and.. you.. to be quite honest, all your flaws, all your little tendencies, your habits, none.. have.. how do I put this?" She continued to stare at me, her mouth slightly open. "I would say you're not perfect, but.. I would be lying."

"Perfect!?" She spluttered. "No, Adam. No no no no no," she ripped her hand away from mine and started waving both in front of my face in denial. "Far from it, honestly. If you knew me a bit more --" She stopped. My palm rested on her cheek. My breathing shallowed, and I closed my eyes, resting my lips on hers. Including my heart, everything seemed to stop.
