Jake
I threw on my cold, wet, and soda scented shirt, and Kimy and I started heading back to the mess hall. I took out my mp3 and turned it off. The walk back seemed somewhat...quiet. I felt like I should say something, if she wasn't planning on doing so.
"So, aside from this little misfortune, what's camp been like for you so far?" I asked nervously.
"Not too bad, I guess. Everyone's nice, but it's still a bit quiet. And you?"
"Well, quiet like you, but I can't be too certain about anybody else"
"Oh?"
"I don't know, maybe I'm just not wanting to be too...sociable with the others"
"Why's that?"
"I don't know. There's just something about them, I guess...". Crap, I started a conversation I couldn't continue. Thank god the mess hall wasn't too far of a walk.
"I better get some more food, then", she said, entering the door, when all the people inside started coming out.
"Dammit!" she said. Breakfast was done, as it seems. I looked inside, there was no food left around.
"Well, you had a bottle of 7-up in your bag. Did you bring a drink and no food?"
"Yeah..." she said, looking somewhat embarassed. I think she wanted to keep her food a secret for a while.
"You missed breakfast too. You want something?", she asked.
"I'll pass. I'm not too hungry anyways", I said. I really wasn't too hungry. I've gone without breakfast before, and I didn't want to take all of her food from her. It was her food, not mine, after all.
We started rounding back to the cabins again.
"So, what's going on now? Free time?", I asked.
"I have no idea", she answered.
