What was the best thing you wrote in 2009?

This is a completely selfish thread. What I would like everyone to do is provide a link to the best story/poem/anything that you wrote this year. So decide what your best work was, and share it! Of course, a description of the piece and why you like it also helps along with the link, but it's not necessary. However, if it's not posted on YWS, then you're probably going to have to explain it

But that was kind of a co-write... I mean, I made most of it, but not all of it, so I guess it doesn't completely count. So... um... for a completely solo work:

And yeah... I totally didn't write much this year. -_-

Stuff I did this year:

* Finished the first draft of my urban fantasy.
* Finished the second draft.
* Finished the first draft of my epic fantasy.

Here's a teaser from the urban fantasy. I've been pretty down about this novel, but I do love this scene.

Half-demon infernal Johann Stark is barred from churches, burned by crosses and going directly to hell. But Johann is determined to stay human: his rag-tag family of infernal fosterlings depend on his protection. As long as his family are safe, Johann can believe he’s risen above his heritage to become a good person.

Then a pissed-off angel crashes his territory on a mission to annihilate all infernals. When the angel captures Johann’s eleven-year-old foster daughter, whose powers can be used to ID and toast his targets, Johann makes himself a promise.

He’s going to save her. Whatever the cost. He’ll kill angels, unleash his hated demonic father and sacrifice what’s left of his humanity to put his family back together.

But if he ever saves his daughter, he may no longer be human enough to be the father his family need.

Hm. I don't know about best, but the two works I'm the most proud of:

Seven Haikus (haiku? haikus? haiku??) because I really started to like haik- eh, these Japanese short poems this year and I feel like I managed to write some decent ones myself.

And Finders, Keepers, because it's one of the first proper short stories I ever wrote (if we don't count all these teddy-picks-blueberries and rabbit-named-binky stories) and even though it could still be edited, I remember feeling very fulfilled when I finished it.

And some random poems that aren't posted. I like some of them a lot.

I would say my favourite was Aela and the Leshy because it was the first piece of writing I have ever properly finished ^^ and I'm proud that it's going to be in Spun Yarn, even though I know it's not a major publishing deal lol but it means a lot to me. Oh and it got me me a placement in my first contest on YWS!

Hmph. I didn't write much that was good this year, but I did write some things that I enjoyed writing immensely, primarily "Owl Eyes" (viewtopic.php?t=43659 -that's Part One). It was never supposed to be great literature, it was mostly for myself though some of my friends read it as well- it has meaning for me in that sense, when one roommate actually reached out and said, "I want to read it" after another had finished.

Other than that, well, you know me, I never finish anything, but- though perhaps not the story itself, I am proud that I managed to get second place in Rosey's contest for "Seven" (viewtopic.php?t=50638).

Plus, of course, the millions of beginnings I've started that never got anywhere- but Red White (that really is unnamed) and Twelve have been babies to me that I haven't entirely given up on. So, I don't know, maybe that counts as pride.

I'd say the best thing for me was "To Make Music For You". It's almost my very first finished novel and I'm really happy about that.
I really didn't finish much this year. I started a lot of things, didn't quite complete most/any of them

For poetry, it would probably be Wild Roses. Despite the rather prose-like poetry, I really found that poem fit my "style" if I'd go so far as to call it that.

For prose, it's probably Ever After, a twist on a fairy tale that I'd like to polish up sometime. Now that I don't have a word limit, I can add in the details recommended.

Murder of the Mind
Though I know it's a bit of mess and it's a really weird poem, I suppose it will do!

Hands down, my favorite piece I wrote this year (of the very few) is Darkness Unpolluted. It's a poem about someone I know closely, who is to afraid to be honest with herself about the life she lives... Yeah. But I got some really good feedback on it, so that helped me a lot! Hope you like it.

Dream Catcher, without a doubt. It's twenty times better than whatever I wrote from before this past summer. There are only little bits and pieces of it on YWS xD But I take them down soon after, so there's no point in giving a link.

Err, the reason it's my best work is becasue my prose has improved by a landslide. It's more quality than quantity like before, and I never rushed through it. I also really love my narrator and the way she tells the story.

Haha, I'm probably not the best judge of this, but I was quite pleased with Carbonation and Katies. Although, (yes, I'm an egomaniac, I know) I was pretty happy with most of my short stories for Cal's Some Kind of Chorus contest.

Letters to an Angel Part 1 And
Letters to an Angel part 2 is probably the first great story i had made in YWS where the details and the style of teh story has been adopted to future stories. One of which was Marionette by the snow, a recent story i had made which was an experiment to fantasy.
