"Taelmus," the man said to his leader in a low voice, shuddering as he began to speak to the ancient that towered above him. "The human government-"
The sudden crescendo of Taelmus' voice startled him, "I know what you are going to say, Professor."
The man was silent. Taelmus sighed in a dissatisfied grumble and turned his huge head around again, shaking his rough mane out in thought. The man gave him a few minutes of silence, shifting edgily as he wondered whether he should leave.
"Taelmus?" he stuttered after he had counted to five hundred in his head.
"You have my ear," he rumbled back quietly, the tone of his voice telling the man that he was barely listening, still floating in his thoughts.
"What shall we do? They have thousands more in numbers and not to mention..." his words trailed off into the nothingness between them.
Taelmus could not answer. This would take thought, and even more than usual. The House of Night was exposed now, and the protective stone walls around it would not stand against the threat of a human attack. He sighed. The pupils within the school had done nothing wrong to deserve this. The rest of the creatures had abandoned them, fearing that the humans would discover them too. Now the House would either have to fight, continue like normal and wait for the downfall, or try to reconcile with the humans.
He heard the man's footsteps leave him, stopping by the heavy oak doors. And as if reading Taelmus' mind, he said, "The humans will not reconcile. The House of Night is already falling to pieces due to the squabbling of the pupils. They will not work together Taelmus..."
The door clicked shut, as Taelmus was left alone to his thoughts once more.[/spoiler]
Plot
Deep within the countryside, a school called the House of Night resides. Within it's walls under the rule of an ancient Manticore, Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves and other creatures are taken in and taught the ways of their kind. All lessons begin at sunset and finish in the early hours of the morning.
Keeping rivals within the confines of one building for five years was never going to be easy, and recently the peace between the groups was destroyed by the death of a student during a fight. All factions are at war now. The House has become a place where you should trust no one, and where everyone is your enemy.
Now that the human government has discovered the House, they have decided to take action to save the lives of the humans.
The House of Night is on its last legs, with corruption within and enemies not far from it's doorstep, action must be taken. The students will either have to find a way to work together, or be taken out by their greatest enemies forever.
Characters
These are the type of students you can use for your character. The number of spaces available in each type is the number in brackets.
Zombies (3):
Not the kind you see in movies. In fact, the movies got it all wrong. Zombies are fast. Faster than humans. You ever wondered why they always caught up with the people in films? That's why. They're also strong, much stronger than any Vampire could hope to live up to. They are incapable of feeling physical pain. Their wounds take a long time to heal, hence the appearance of zombies in TV. And by night, their eyes glow an eerie orange. They have the most keen sense of sight than any other species at the House, and their noses are very sensitive to the scent of fear. Smelling such a thing will set them off in a mad killing frenzy. Their bite is venomous to humans, and will only cause a lot of pain for any non humans.
Zombies are the only real competition for food to Vampires. Forget about the traditional Vampire/Werewolf hatred. These two groups will destroy each other on sight.
Werewolves (FULL):
With unparalleled senses, brutish strength and a mean bite, Werewolves are pretty on par with the other species at the House. They are the peace keepers in a way, trying to shove the Zombies from the picture so they can resume their timeless battle with the Vampires. Of course, this only makes all three sides angry at each other.
Werewolves can phase whenever they feel like but phasing by moonlight is not something they can control. If they phase during moon shine they become more animal than human, growing savage and nearly impossible to control.
Vampires (1):
Rival of Zombies and enemy of the Werewolves. Very keen senses, and the fastest species at the House of Night. They have strength to match a Werewolf, and with those teeth, are a deadly opponent in a fight. They are venomous and a bite has the same effect as a Zombie's. Their eye colour varies, from pinkish when not thirsty to crimson when parched. Their pale skin is like a sheet of armour and is hard to penetrate with claws or blunt weapons.
Demons (2):
Mischievous, meddling annoyances that go out of their way to irritate the hell out of everyone in the house. They switch sides often, causing mayhem on all sides. All demons have an elemental gift, which they use on their hell raising expeditions to ruffle the feathers of the other groups. Having a demon on your side isn't always a good thing. They think it's hilarious to turn on you and switch sides quicker than you can say 'traitor.'
Alans (FULL):
Humans with the wings of a bird. It is natural instinct for them to dislike Vampires, with them being cold blooded and snake like. They're fast, though not as fast as their enemies. They require on speed for most attack, but they have an additional weapon. Their nails are stronger than steel and can cut through almost anything. Their powerful wings pack a painful punch and can break bones. The Demons dislike the Alans and they are subject to the most of their pranks, due to their angel like wings.
