Loner- Nightstar-

"I guess I can try." Nightstar spoke hesitantly, he had been on his own for so long. What would it be like living with a pack. Ossal nodded and stood pacing down the river, apperantly back towards the Pack-Den. Standing Nightstar loped after him.

Ossal glanced over at Star and asked. "How long has it been since your parents died?" He asked.

"Almost a year." He admitted. "When the river flooded last spring it filled our den. Mom, dad, my littermates, they were all sleeping inside and drowned. I'd snuck up the hill to play, so I was safe. After that, I had teach myself how to hunt, scout, all that stuff."

*C'mon Black Toother's! Post!*
*Also, we need a DT...I have some ideas.*

Kayla - Black Tooth

As soon as I finally felt my eyes close, a nose nudged my shoulder.

"Kayla, Lark's looking for you." A familiar voice said, "Again."

My eyes fluttered open and I looked up to see Bors, standing over me. His normally black fur was traced with a line of red. My stomach growled at the thought of fresh meat.

"C'mon, you've been "napping" for an hour. You're glad your father hasn't noticed." Bors said, already leaving me. Bors is a good friend but sometimes I wonder.

"Hey, you're glad you don't have to be lectured all the time." I called after him, slowly getting up and stretching my body.

I followed him out of my small cave and then remembered why I got up in the first place. Lark. As a Scout, I dreamed about being a teacher, helping the pups learn the wolf way of life. I didn't take into consideration that pups could be obnoxious little things, striving to learn every little thing. An education I had to deliver.

Now, all I had to do was find her. I watched as Ghost and Toxin ate a rabbit, my stomach grumbling even harder. Viking was walking around, so I walked over to ask if he had seen Lark.

"Viking," I said, "Have you seen Lark around here? Bors said she was looking for me."

"Check over there." Viking said, pointing to the right towards the forest with his tail. "She said she was trying to catch a mouse or something."

I rolled my eyes (can wolves do that?) and bounded over to where Viking pointed at. Silly, Lark. Thinks she can catch a mouse. I'll help her.

Yellow Hill- Lhuna

Lhuna approached Tier's hunched figure carefully. She had just returned from a quick run from the perimeter, and now had the time to see if the young hunter was okay.
She got that prickling feeling she always got when approaching an angry wolf. It was unpleasant but she continued anyway.
"Hey Tier," she said to him, but the only response she got was a grunt.
She paused, before sitting awkwardly next to him. He continued to stare out at the dark contours of the mountains.
If there was one thing Lhuna was good at, it was keeping everyone calm. Her presence just seemed to bring peace to the pack, and it was usually because the young wolf was relied upon to take the burdens of the other wolves. Always angry, she thought, looking at Tier's thick frown. She sighed, and thought of something to say to him.
"Look, about Zodiak-"
"I don't want to talk about him," he spat, making Lhuna's eyes narrow slightly. She nearly started but stopped herself from doing so.
"I can't keep control of him, so don't expect me to," she began. "If you want to be lead hunter, take it up with him. All this rivalry isn't good for the rest of us."
"Always worrying, all the time!" he muttered, not intending her to hear his words.
Lhuna sighed again, this time more lengthily.
"I know you're not on good terms with me because of Zodiak-"
"I never said that."
"Well, I can just tell," she replied, her forehead folding into a deeper frown. "But I wish that you wouldn't feel like that."
Tier blew out his cheeks slightly and closed his eyes. "Look I don't... I'm not... urgh, I'm not good at this. Look, I don't hate you. I mean it."
After a few moments of silence, Lhuna's head clicked.
"Hey, I know what. If it makes you feel any better, I'll put him on babysitting duty." She grinned when she saw the corners of his mouth twitch. "How's that?"
"You wouldn't do that to him," he said quietly, his mouth twisting into a wry smile.
"Trust me, I would."
"You're mad, Lhuna," he laughed softly.
She bumped her shoulder against his, and he bumped his own back.
"I know. It's why I'm Alpha. Everyone is too scaried I'll go crazy and slaughter you all."
They both stood. "I know you don't hear it very often, but you are a good Alpha Lhuna. I know you don't think that, but at least you show you care."
She nodded, embarrassed that she was unable to take such a lovely compliment well.
She swished her tail once, and jerked her head in the direction of Zodiak's scent.
"So do you want to see me tell him or what?"
"Sure." The two wolves trotted off together into the night.

Zodiak

Zodiak hummed to himself as he named all of the constellations in the sky. There was one certain constellation, that was one of the most important ones that wolves used for guidance. The White Wolf, it was called. Many wolves believed that a white wolf came to take you to a paradise when you died. Zodiak wasn't sure about this one. He only used this star for tracking; the nose of the star formation always pointed north.
A slight wind blew through the low brush, bringing a scent with it.
Wait, he thought suddenly, the scent burning his nose. Ossal's scent was there, but there was something else...
The scent of an outsider.
A low growl hissed from deep in his chest, and his hackles stood on end. He jumped to his feet, heading straight for the source.
"Ossal must be in trouble," he muttered to himself, throwing his legs as far out as they could to gain his maximum speed.
He skidded to a hasty halt, and sniffed the air again.
The outsider was nearby.

Cana

"Cana will you take me scouting with you next time?" Leo asked eagerly.

I smiled a bit. Yes, Leo had to be my favorite pup. "We'll see."

"Yes!" She was excited now. I had to follow through. I made a mental note to bring her along on my next run.

"How about we go find the rest of the pack?" I suggested. I was still worried about her being this far away and all alone. The Yellow Hill scouts kept a good watch but that didn't mean a rival wolf couldn't slip by.

The pup eagerly jumped up and followed me. She was really becoming too old to be called a pup anymore.

*Can I still join?*

Name: Hera (hair-ah)

Age: Three

Pelt colour and appearance: Dark orange and white pelt with emerald eyes.

Pack: Black Tooth

Position: Hunter/Secret Traitor

Sex: Female

Background: She was stolen from the Yellow Hill pack, but wasn't killed because the alpha stated that she could prove worthy in the future. However, she dislikes Black Tooth, and has tried to run away plenty of times. She refuses to fight Yellow Hill and refuses to kill any of their pups. She often at times will sneak one or two off and wait till the sun goes down and her pack leaves before sending the pups back home. The only one that knows of this is Talon.

~~

Name: Talon

Age: Three

Pelt colour and appearance: Dark and light brown with chocolate brown eyes. He's strong and swift and will lay down the law to younger pups.

Pack: Black Tooth

Position: Hunter

Sex: Male

Background: He came into Black Tooth as a loner when he was a pup. He grew up with Hera and had always been drawn to her, as in a big brother way. He was the only one that dared to tell her the truth of where she came from. He watched his father kill his mother and brothers and sisters.

~~

Name: Bane

Age: Three

Pelt colour and appearance: He's all white, almost like a ghost, with golden honey eyes. He looks more like his father than Hera, who looks like her mother.

Pack: Yellow Hill

Position: Hunter/Scout

Sex: Male

Background: Watched his mother be killed, along with his siblings. He knows that his sister is still alive though, and meets with her a lot. He's a strong hunter, but likes patroling the borders more than anything, because he gets to fight with the other pack if they cross over. He will NOT harm a wolf pup, no matter what pack they're from.

Ossal

Teaching himself, and surviving on that for a year. That was something few wolves could do. Ossal looked sidelong at Star, "And did you ever try to teach yourself how to use your sense?"

"My sense?" Star replied, perplexed.

Ossal nodded, "You have the air of a Shaman about you, young one. The spirits agree. What did you think I meant when I said apprentice?"

Star looked like he was about to speak, when Ossal stopped, hackles raising a little. "Stop." He said, "My pack's about to give you a little trouble." He sniffed the air, Zodiak. Just like I thought. Tier's going to be very happy with this mistake.

With a howl, the hunter came flying out of a thicket to one side of them, aimed straight at Star. The outsider dodged out of the way, he'd been ready for it. Zodiak went tumbling across the ground, shaking himself as he came to his feet, "Don't worry Ossal!" He said, obviously trying to sound heroic, "I'm here to save you!"

Stifling an amused grin, Ossal levelled a stern glare at Zodiak, "And they say there's a difference between you and Tier." Zodiak looked stung, comparing one to the other was insult in itself, since they hated each other so much. But coming from Ossal, a comparison to Tier was even worse. Ossal shook his head, "This one is with me, Zodiak. He's no enemy of Yellow Hill. In fact, he's going to join our pack."

He raised his head, tilted it to one side, "And Lhuna should be here before too long." The shaman looked at Zodiak, "And you'd best be on your guard. My nephew's in a good mood."

Tier

He trotted alongside Lhuna, sniffing for Zodiak. He had to admit, he was surprised Lhuna was siding with him rather than Zodiak. Of course, it was a welcome change, but a surprising one nonetheless.

Tier sniffed the air again, and Lhuna looked at him, "How much farther is he?"

"Not far at all," Tier said, grinning, "And he's with Ossal, which means we're all probably about to get a lecture about getting along nicely." He paused, finally distinguishing a third scent. It was close to their own, so he hadn't noticed it before, "There's someone else there as well. A stranger."

Lhuna frowned, "Could they be in trouble?"

"I don't think so. As much as I don't like it, I think Ossal and Zodiak could fend off most wolves. My uncle might be old, but he's not frail. And Zodiak..." He shook himself, not wanting to get angry again in front of Lhuna. She was being nice to him here, and Tier thought that at the very least, he should try to get along with Zodiak. Of course, that would probably only work as long as the two hunters weren't in the same place.

Tier nodded towards some bushes, and they heard voices coming from there, "They're just through there."

***I would love to, but all my characters are all tied up. Also, please no more Yellow Hill members. We almost have too many.
Also, Black Toothers! Get posting! :P***

Lhuna, Yellow Hill

Lhuna first saw the white form of Ossal standing behind a thicket. She slowed her pace cautiously, sniffing the air. There was no scent of danger or fear, so she preceded with her approach.
The fur on her face prickled none the less as the outsider came into view. He was much smaller than herself and Tier, but only a year younger, give or take a few months. Her tail shot straight up into the air, a clear sign of dominance.
The outsider shifted awkwardly, unsure of how to react. When she realised this young wolf was uneducated, her fur settled into place again.
She shot an angry glace at Ossal, who seemed to be giving her a cryptic look. She hated it when he did such things, speaking in riddles only irritated her.
There was an eerie silence as a breath of wind blew through the brush, making the outsider's scent even stronger in her nose. Even from a distance she knew he wasn't Black Tooth. But the bad blood was in there, deeply smothered by something else... something familiar. She couldn't quite figure it out.
She looked at Ossal again, and he had that strange look upon his face still. Then it clicked.
He's testing me.
She managed to keep herself settled, barely. Always, always having to prove herself, prove her worth to everybody! She had never felt truly worthy of having the title of Alpha. She tried the best she could, and Zodiak insisted that she was a good Alpha. But that was just Zodiak. Always trying to make her smile.
She sniffed at the scent a little longer, trying to dig out that hidden messge, that secret deep within the wolves scent...
Her eyes widened. Yes. She practically knew this outsider. Her father had once told her of another pack member who she never had the chance to meet. A person who left Black Tooth to be with a Yellow Hill wolf. She had admired that wolf's bravery. It was different from the courage needed to stand up to a leader, or take down an angry bear. It was the most important type of courage, and she knew that.
Ossal smiled, using he sixth sense to unravel her thoughts and know that she had passed his test.
"You're half Yellow hill, aren't you?" she said to the stranger, now realising she practically was greeting part of her long lost family.

Ill bring Bane in.

Cana - Yellow Hill

Leo and I walked part of the border back to the rest of the pack. It wasn't much of a scouting missing, but Leo had fun.

While we were walking a ghost white wolf bounded towards us.

"Bane!" Leo squealed. I smiled at her admiration for any of the scouts. She would make a good one when she was older I bet.

"Hey there Leo." He stopped his patrol to greet the pup. "Hello to you two Cana."

"Hello Bane." I greeted. "How's the border up that way?"

Bane - Yellow Hill

Bane smiled crookedly at Cana and Leo, shaking out his pelt. "It's fine, no scent of that rotten Black Tooth pack. There is a wolverine family up north a ways about two miles. We're headed up there right now to run them off." At his words the two younger wolves in his patrol smiled proudly.

"Can I come?" Leo questioned, excitedly. "Please Bane!" Bane let out a soft laugh, golden eyes filled with mixed emotions, ranging from humor to worry.

"I don't know. I wouldn't want you getting hurt if they decide to attack. I don't even know how many there are in all." Bane shot Cana a look of distress. He didn't want to diappoint Leo, but he didn't want her to get hurt either.

"Oh come on Bane! I can handle a few little wolverines!" Bane couldn't help but smile at the youngster's enthusiasm.

"If it's alright with Cana then I don't mind, but you'll have to stay back."

Leo~Yellow Hill

This was the best day of Leo's life finally doing some actually good in for the pack! "Wait till Storm hear that I went and helped chase off Wolverines off!" she boasted.

"But you have to stay back. . .so I guessed that means your just watching." Bane teased.

"Be nice Bane." Cana chuckled when Leo pouted.

"How many do you think will be in there?" Leo asked excitedly. "What if there like a billions of them. And they go crazy and then you have to let me fight! Right?"

"I think we could take them, with out your help Leo." Bane chuckled again.

"I think were getting close." Cana whispered as she motioned with her tail for them to be quiet. A low rustling sound was heard from a nearby bush.

Bane crepted closer quietly, followed a little by Cana. The sound from the bush was not a adult wolverine, but more. . .babyish. Bane realized this first being the closet, he pushed the bush aside to see. . .three tiny baby wolverines.

Bane and Cana looked at each other wide eyed, with fear. Another sound came form behind Leo not a tiny squeak but a horrible growl. Right as Leo turned around a over sized mother wolverine jumped out of the bush and charged at her.

"Leo!" Cana and Bane screamed in unison. But the tiny bit of fighting Leo had learned, seemed to have disappeared. And she froze in fear, the mighty wolverine paw went up and started for the first strike!

(any one can pick up :D ! No idea where this is going so yeah! )

Bane - Yellow Hill

Without a second thought Bane ran at the wolverine, getting in between Leo and the monster. The wolverine's claws sliced through his flesh like butter, leaving a deep gash in his side. Bane let a vicious snarl, eyes alit with rage. The wolverine returned with her own snarl. Bane lunged at her, latching on her with his jaws while she sank her teach into his right leg. He ripped her off of him, flinging her a good fifteen feet. Leo was staring at the wolverine from Bane, wide-eyed. The two others that had been with Bane were fighting their own wolverine. While glancing around to see if everyone was okay he didn't notice the wolverine struggle to her feet and run at him. She sunk her razor sharp teeth into the side of his neck, only to have Bane latch onto her back leg and sink his teeth into her flesh.

"Yiser, Guru, how are you holding up?" He managed to growl, getting a growl from the two younger wolves and the wolverine. With rage building up inside him he ripped the wolverine away for a second time, flinging her against a large tree. Her back made a sickening crack and then, she was dead. Guru got the killing blow on the other adult wolverine, both he, Guru, Yiser, and Cana trotting over, all bearing some forms of injury.

"Bane, what do you want us to do with the pups?" Yiser growled, glancing at the young wolverines that had just witnessed their parent's death.

"Kill them." Bane growled. It's not like they had any other wolverines to help them through it all. "All they'd do is suffer anyway." Bane glared at the three wolverine pups, unaware of the other adult wolverines that were surrounding their group of five. How would he know they were there? They were all down wind.

*Oops, yeah we posted at the same time. Editing...*

Cana - Yellow Hill

The mother wolverine was taken care of. But something still felt dangerous.

A loud snarl came from the bushes around us. There were more.

"Bane." I growled. "I think we're surrounded."

Bane nodded, either acknowledging my thought or agreeing with it.

"Bane, what about Leo?" I asked. We couldn't have the pup around this many wolverines. I looked to Leo, she stood proudly but I could see her shaking. I stood over the quivering pup, I needed to protect her.

The simple truth is that authors like making people squirm. If this weren't the case, all novels would be filled completely with cute bunnies having birthday parties.
