She sat in bed, although the clock and her mind told her that it was time to get up. Rain pattered softly against the window at a steady rythym. Today she would meet with another detective. Over the past ten years she had tried, tried so hard to figure out her past. Only to have them nod at her sympathetically.

Nyla slid her feet from the bed. She shivered as her pale feet hit the cold floor. The silk cover slid off her. Pulling on her clothes she thought about the night she had been discovered. Found at the edge of the road, where the gypsies had moved further down the trail. Nyla had been abandoned and taken in.

She had worked hard to rise above all the others, and even managed to save enough for college from various odd jobs. Working for her history degree, she had also discovered a joy in writing. Now, she was a published author that worked as a history teacher at Fallon High School.

Paul slowly walked up to the address he had been given by his partner. He was a PI of sorts, a detective. He smiled at the thought, he liked being a detective, helping other people when they couldn't help themselves. He knocked on the door and straightened his shirt, his jeans were just normal jeans, and then the black trench coat he wore fit easily on his broad shoulders.

***I'll help write it. Message me about it some more too. :P. I'll only be on a little :every day and on monday I might be on from 7-8:30pm EST. So ya. :P***

The sound of a dorrbell interuptted her thoughts. She stood and glanced at a mirror as she made her way to the door. Her brunette hair tumbled in soft waves down her back. Her icy blue eyes stared back at her. Deeming herself presentable she opened the door.

"Hello," she greeted the detective with a smile on her face.

Paul smiled at the girl. “I’m Paul Rose, your Nyla?”

“Yes, come in.” She smiled. He nodded and ducked into the room looking around it. It was kept neatly. If he remembered right she was an author, this looked like it fit that type of person. All organized. He almost laughed when he thought of his sister. She was an author too, but she was anything but organized.

“Thank you. So, we’ll get right down to business. What do you know about your past, it’ll make it easier for me to know anything, and I mean anything, you know about it.” He said watching her walk gracefully towards a living room area. She was pretty, but she was a client, he had to remember that.

She glanced behind her to make sure that the detective was following. After confirming that he was, she continued to make her way to the living room. She sat down and made a gesture for him to make hiself comfortable.

He was a good looking guy, someone she could have seen herself with, but she reminded herself of the mission she was on. Finding her past.

"I want to know the names of my parents and their information. If they are alive I want to know where they live, and if they are dead the causes and where they are buried. I want you to try to uncover every bit of my past you can find. If you can do it, I will pay you handsomely." Nyla looked in his eyes as she said it and felt butterflies in her stomach. Sternly, she turned her head and reminded herself of what he was here for again.

Paul sat down and looked at her watching how she sat and held herself while she was sitting, she didn't stare at him for to long.

"I still need to know what information you have of them. Do you have any birth certificates?" He asked leaning back against the couch a little. "If they wanted to make sure you coulkdn't find them they would make sure your social didn't link you back to them, but I will need it to see if there is any way I can trace it back to them or not. I actually have a list of things I need to know if you know to figure everything otu you are asking. Do you have time right now to go over them?"

"I don't have any idea of my past. When I was 10, I was dropped off by the old Gypsie Trail. That was the year 1990. I can't remember anything before I was found by the first villager, only that feeling of loss. I have hired many detectives, and none have been able to uncover one speck of my past. I have absolutely no information on my parents. I'm sorry. If you do find anything, you will get paid, a large sum. I will answer your questions to the best of my ability."

Nyla didn't notice the warm, wet, tears running down her face until she wiped them away.

Paul spotted a box of tissues and handed it to her. He sat back down and leaned forward a little. He knew where the old Gypsies Trail was and was very familiar with the area.

"Alright, do you remember anything from before that. Smells, landscapes, musems, anything would help." He said softly. She shook her head dabbing at her eyes. He nodded. So she was born in 1980. Her parents could've driven for years to get to the Gypsies trail. "Do you know your birthdate? Or were you just given a new one?"

Nyla blushed.

"Well, it sounds silly, but I remember perfect grasslands, and a body of sparkling clear water. It had an ancient elm beside it. That's all I remember."

As she said it, a scene flashed before her eyes, before she could retrieve it, Paul interrupted her thoughts.

"That's not silly," he said sympathatically.

"I had my name and a card attached. I can go get it if you want it. It probably won't help you though."

Nyla got up and disapeared from the room. Walking blindly she grabbed the card that sat beside her bed every day. She looked at it every night, trying to find some clue.

Returning to the living room, she noticed Paul Rose staring at her, but decided to ignore it.

"Here it is," she said as she handed it to him. Her hands brushed against his, and felt a tingling sensation down her arm.

He looked at it. Nyla stared at him intently as his eyes went back and forth. Nyla knew the note by heart.

This is Nyla Gweneviere Faerie. She was born to our people on the date of June 25th on the year of 1980. One day she will find her destiny. Please take care of her. For Nyla is a precious gift.

Paul read and reread the note. "Someone seems to think your going to do some great things." He smiled at her.

"That doesn't help me any. I won't know what those things are if I can't talk to these people." SHe replied.

"Well, it would seem that it wasn't your parents that dropped you off but a town." He shook his head. "That doesn't really make sense, but it says born to our people. If a parent wrote it they would say this is our daughter and it'd have a lot more love thrown in it. Which gives me the impression that you won't have any records of your birth." He ran a hand through his hair and bit his lip.

"Can't you do anything?" She asked.

"I can try running DNA through the system, but that would really only work if one of your parents or realitives commited a crime." He replied taking a deep breath.

***** yes she is, which mean they wont be able to tract DNA****

"Well, you have the note. As soon as you find anything let me know," Nyla looked at him with sorrowful eyes. If only he wasn't the detective.

He nodded and started to walk out the door. Something seized her for a moment and she asked as he started to walk away.

"Hey, wait, let me get you something to give you a good start. I have a delicious supper on the stove. Please stay and eat. I won'e ever be able to eat it all."

Paul looked at her and thoguht it through, he really shouldn't, but it smelled so good. He finnally nodded. "Alright." He smiled. "I think I can stay for a little longer before I go bother people about their past." He laughed.

"Come on then." She smiled leading him to the the kitchen where there was a nice little table in teh corner. It smelled heavenly in there.

"I think I'm glad I accepted." He smiled and he breathed in again. 'What can I do to help?"

"First off, fill your plate and eat up. It's rare that I get a visitor and I love to cook... only I'm the only one to cook for," Nyla said with a smile on her face.

"I'll happily oblige," Paul replied.

Nyla watched as Paul filled his plate with food. He must not have a wife or girlfriend to cook for him, she thought idly.

After he had piled his plate, Nyla fixed hers taking only a small amount. She never ate much anyways.

"So Mr. Rose, how desperate do you think my case really is?" she asked.

"I think it'll take a lot of time and work to find your family if it is even possible. It might not be." He sighed. "I'm can't garentee anything other then I will do everythign I can."

"Is it really that bad?" She asked looking at him hopefully. He wanted to lie and tell her it was all going to be better and that he would find her family, but he couldn't make that garentee wiht as little information as he had.

"I'm afraid so. There isn't much to go off, but I'm sure we'll find more as I look. Who knows, maybe they'll live a mile away." He smiled gently at her. "Don't give up hope just because it is ahrd. THe harder cases always have a more rewarding meeting of the family in the end."

Nyla twisted her fork and stared at the plate. She knew that finding her family and her past would be difficult. If Paul Rose didn't find it, she was going to give up. It wasn't worth all the emotion damage it was doing. the hoping and falling back to the earth with a clash of reality.

"Thank you, for telling the truth," Nyla said gratefully. "Your not the usual detective. Most tell me that they can find them, although I know they don't mean it. I appriciate it."

Most things happen for a reason. Though, usually, the forces that be are immature enough that the reason is comedy.
