The Story

Inspired by S.E. Hinton's novel, The Outsiders.
"You know what a Greaser is? White trash with long, greasy hair!" - Bob Shelton
"You know what a Soc is? White trash with mustangs and madras." - Ponyboy Curtis

The Socs (pronounced 'soashes') are a group of street gangs composed of spoiled kids from well-to-do rich families. They have no reservations about "jumping" Greasers without provocation. They listen to the Beatles and wear madras shirts. The boys drive Ford Mustangs and Corvairs and the girls drive Corvettes.

While the Socs live carefree lives of privilege, the Greasers all come from hard-knock backgrounds. They like to listen to the music of Elvis Presley and think the The Beatles are "out". Their attire usually consists of tight fitting t-shirts, leather jackets, and snug jeans. Many Greasers are involved in criminal activities, which causes many people to incorrectly assume that all Greasers are juvenile delinquents (JDs). Many of the Greasers also have many family problems at home.

Choose your side, Greaser or Soc.

Name: Zacharie "Zach" Bellerose
Group: Soc
Gender: male
Age: 16
Apperance: jeans, shirt, "soc" jacket. black hair, not greaser long, but longish. blue eyes. average height.
Weapon of choice: switchblade
Personality: Likes to laugh at everything, but doesn't like coming up with the jokes himself. Uses his cocky "french-ness" to make people think he's okay and upbeat, even if he's not.
Background: French. Mother died when he was young and his dad married a rich woman who Zach refers to as a whore, even to her face. Openly dislikes his step-mother, in a blunt mater-of-fact way. They moved to the states to pursue career oportunities. Understanding the Soc/Greaser fued, but not really caring, he falls in with the Socs due to his parents wealth.
Other: Likes to refer to people with terms of endearment, even if he doesn't like them.

Name: Ben Jacobs

Group: Greaser

Gender:Male

Age:17

Appearance: He has short, but thick, swept back brown hair, and light blue eyes. He's tall, standing at six-foot-two. He's strong, but not overly so, seen through his lanky build. He wears a plain white t-shirt, jeans with the cuffs ripped up, and a brown leather jacket.

Weapon of choice: He uses anything that comes to hand, but generally his fists. If there's one lying around, he'll use a baseball bat, but he doesn't carry one around with him.

Personality: Quick to smile, even to socs, although that's only to make fun of their shirts and their taste in music. He's arrogant, and has a 'never-say-die' attitude.

Background: His mother left them when he was young, and he was brought up by his father. The 'old man', as Ben calls him, was an alcoholic, but not the kind who would beat his kid. Instead, he was just a bad influence on Ben, teaching him that most problems could be solved by ignoring them or by forcing them to go away. At the same time, Ben saw that his father also just laughed at most of the problems in their life. His father started taking him to the local pub at the age of fourteen, and, while Ben isn't an alcoholic, he does drink.

Name: Leal Peterson

Group: Greaser

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Apperance: She wears those jeans and then a tight top changing between what it says and looks like. When it's cold she wears jackets that are meant for people a lot bigger then her. She is 5'4, her eyes are a blue, her hair brown.

Weapon of choice: switchblade, fists, or anything she can get her hands on. She is small, but she can still pack a really hard punch and isn't afraid to get in a fight. She keeps the switch blade hidden and only pulls it out if she has to.

Personality:
She is very reserved. Her father is abusive so she is very timid around guys she doesn't know and is quick to dislike them. You'll see more as the story progresses.

Background:
Her dad used to have a ton of money before he gambled it all when she was five. They've lived in the 'bad' part of town the rest of her life. Her dad became abusive and her mom OD leaving her with a dad that loved to beat the crap out of her. She joined the Greasers when she was thirteen and met Ben Jacobs. She liked to hang around him because she felt safe, sense he was a lot bigger then her, but easy to get along with.

Other:
She usually hangs out with Ben. :S, if that is ok Billy.

I could hardly not could I?

Name: (I'd love to be cherry, but I don't think so eh? so...) Linda Harrier

Group: greaser

Gender: female

Age: 20

Appearance: Always wears too much makeup and keeps her hair out at all times without brushing it often, meaning it's bushy and messy. She has dark eyes, and a strongly featured face. She's medium height.

Weapon of choce: switchblade

Personality: tough and hard. She has a thick shell that not many can break through, and is always trying to make sure no one does. She's been in the group for a long time, and as one of the senior members tends to take the younger girls under her wing, showing them the ropes and making sure they don't get into trouble. She's sort of popular with the boys, but they don't always like the fact that she can hold her own in a fight against them.

Background: Her parents are both dead and have been since she was 17, but the cops han't put her into a home because of her age, but her younger brother was put into a boys' boarding school. She doesn't get to contact him much, but is determined to be able to get him out and look after him herself. the cops don't like her though, and she doesn't help the fact when she is with the greasers. But she's been with the greasers since she's been old enought to be, and is not willing to give them up, even if it meant getting her brother back.

Other: She's up for love, but not many of the boys know or think she would be.
It is an established fact that, despite everything society can do, girls of seven are magnetically attracted to the colour pink.

Name: Maraea (mar-ay-uh) Thromsoe

Group: Greaser

Gender: Female

Age: she's twenty three, but won't tell anybody her age.

Appearance: wears the most exotic things she can find, but they are all low-cost, long, wavy platinum blond hair, wears too much eyeliner.

Weapon of Choice: numerous switchblades which she finds convenient places to hide within her outfits

Personality: vivid in thought and emotion, extreme in opinion, very mysterious, hates the Socs, saying they have everything so perfect in life, but are too thick-headed to even know it. Knows when to be cautious-socially and physically- opens up only to a select few, but when she opens up, she really lets every inhibition go. Loves to laugh behind her hands at Socs that Linda beats, loves helping her beat them.

Background: came from Cuba, (hair is bleached) and has a thick accent. Says she has brawny cousins who love to trample on the Miami version of Socs, but she really doesn't, she was a foster kid, but kicked the system when she was fifteen, toughing it out on the streets similarly to Dally, until she found a place to rent in town. Works at the
local hardware store.

Other: she's a bit of a flirt with guys she likes, but does so in strange ways

right about now.

The sun was breaking through the clouds, pushing the shadows back into dark alleys and small corners. Water still pooled on the ground and the trees still dripped, but there was life once more in the small town. Mothers pushed prams through the local park, children swung on the wet swings, and a new face wandered across the grass, eyes watching the sky wary of it opening up once more. The boy had his hands shoved in his pockets, arms bare, and hair hanging darkly in his face.
What a day He thought miserably. Actually, forget it. What a week.

Jason stared at the sky, and sighed. Another bleak day of his new life.
He tugged at his leather jacket, drawing it tighter around himself. He liked leather. A perk of slipping into greaserdom, he guessed.
He was sitting on the park bench, water dripping off the trees onto his head, only to be shedded off by the amount of grease in his hair.
His eyes scanned the area, looking for something to do. He could go lift a chocolate bar, he thought, but dismissed it quickly. He wasn't hungry, and lifting candy bars was lame.
He wanted to do something more exciting. He sure as hell didn't want to go home and watch his mother slip further into madness.
His eyes rested on a teenager, around Jason's own age, maybe a year younger. Scanning him quickly, Jason grinned.
This kid was just enough of a threat to be interesting.
"Oi, kid!"
The stranger stopped, and turned, staring at Jason. "What?"
Jason's smile grew wider as he heard the foreign lilt to the kid's voice. This could be fun.
"Did you want to play, soc?"
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

***Greasers don't have to have greasy hair do they?? That's just kinda..............ya***

Leal:

Leal walked beside Ben as they moved through the park making sure there wasn't any trouble. She didn't mind beating up on Socs, but when it came to Socs beating up on innocents, well that just drove her up the wall.

"Leal! Oh my god, LEAL!" A girl screamed running over. Leal's eyes narrowed as she looked at the girl. It was a soc, well acctually it was just a really rich snobby girl that had lived close to her when her dad was still up in class.

"Brittney." She said crossing her arms as Ben stopped next to her looking at the girl.

"Girl! Where have you been? Guess what, I'm in the Socs now. REmember when we wanted to be in them so bad. I told the leader about you, I'm sure he'd let you in!" Brittney grinned.

"Can't." Leal said as she started walking again ignoring the girl.

"Why not, Leal, you said you'd whoop any greasers butt!" Brittney called.

"Brittney, I whoop Socs butts now. Didn't you hear what happened to my dad?" She asked facing the girl again. "Run back to your fake gang and life, this is greaser grounds."

*They're called Greasers for a reason... As Bob the Soc says, "Do you know what a Greaser is? White trash with long greasy hair."*
*I apologize if anyone here actually speaks french and I screw it up. I'm just using an online translator. I can speak a tiny bit of Japanese, but no french personally :o *

Zach:

Did you want to play, Soc? Zacharie looked the guy over, trying to work out just what he meant. What the hell is a Soc? He thought, cursing his luck.
"Excusez-moi?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. When the other boy continued to stare at him, he realised the kid didn't speak french. "Excuse me?" He repeated.
Jason grinned. Definately gonna be fun. "What's the matter little Soc? Too scared?"
Oh, Soc. Like at school. Zach realised, flashing back to his first day at school since he moved. It wasn't entirely unpleasant; falling in with the cool crowd sure had its perks. He grinned suddenly. This kid didn't know french.
"désolé, a cru que vous aviez perdu votre esprit." He smirked, the words sliding of his tongue.
