The corners of my mouth twitched. She was hiding something; a tattoo?

She was curious. Why? What did she want? Something from me?

I rolled my eyes. Whatever. "You don't have to stay. You got me down here; I'm good." To emphasize that I wasn't going anywhere, I strode, swaying slightly, to my bunk and plopped down on it. "See?"

Well damn. A kiss from a cute girl? I sighed as I laid back, staring at the blurry outlines of the top bunk. To think I was in this situation to begin with...

And she had been so great. Brave, snappy, sweet, and pretty.

Oh hell. I respected her!

Good one, Sean. You tamed the beast.

I fell asleep as the alcohol finally kicked in.

**Where's everyone else? Oh well.**

Jake

I woke with a splitting headache. Light killed my eyesight and made me feel sick, while sounds only amplified my pain.

God, I hate getting drunk...hangovers are awful! I rolled out of my bunk to find everyone else asleep, still. It was still dark outside...

What time is it? Before dawn, I know that much.

Still, I clambered onto the deck and looked around; the eastern horizon was turning purple. All was silent, and no one moved in the crow's nest, Sean's station. Was she asleep?

Only one way to find out. I climbed the ladder and found her asleep on Cate's old belongings.

Billy

The candle flickered as Billy dipped his quill into the ink again and scratched three more lines of small script: We had a run in with another ship today, lost our look out and picked up a straggler. Another kid no less. Nash seems content but I cant help thinking we should plan a rescue. Damn that man. He has no morals, only cares for battle and gold. Too much like his father. Billy dipped the quill again and signed his name before blotting the sheet and fastening it to his gull's leg. The bird had been away weeks this time.

The candle was blown out and Billy climbed into his bunk; he was fortunate enough to have a small cabin to himself. The ship rocked gently and Billy slept well, waking at dawn and following the usual routine.

"Up on deck, men!" Billy roared. "Get to work!"

Sean didnt hear a thing. Once she was out she was out and the oly thing that could wake her was a good shake.

I stood watch in her place, taking care of the job while she slept. I didn't feel that well, but she'd been pulled out of the ocean. It was the least I could do for her.

Down below, I heard Billy call everyone awake. I looked down at Sean.

"Sean?"

No answer. I shook her lightly at first, increasing the insistence gradually. "Sean, get up!"

I nodded, standing back up. "It's fine. You had a long day."

I raised my voice as men clambered on deck and started their work. "Got open water! All's clear!"

A tattoo. She was hiding a tattoo. Why?

I decided not to ask, but instead said, "Sleep well?"
