"Good," I said, "the smell is getting to me."

Colt laughed and turned it to help cook more of it.

They ate, not realizing how hungry they were until that first bite hit their stomaches. When they finished, there wasn't anything left on the bone.
I just lost the game.

Colt----

Colt leaned back against a tree and sighed. "Never figured food would taste that good." He smiled looking at Inez, Trinity curled up a few feet away and was softly snoring in a few minutes. "Guess the food made her tired." He smiled standing up. He carried Trintiy to her lean-to then went back and sat next to Inez watching the fire burn.
"And you wonder why we don't like you!" -Trumpkin

The instant he sat down his hand was in mine and my head went onto his shoulder, simply out of reflex.

"What did you do before the plane crashed?" she asked.
I just lost the game.

"I ropped and ranched for a living." He smiled, he sighed, "I kinda miss the days in the saddle. Every day I had to check on the cattle, and the horses."

He closed his eyes for a second and saw his house, the horses, the cows, the hands. He opened his eyes again and sighed. "I was heading to go stay with my brother for a while. I needed to get away from my town and some problems. How about you?"

I laughed, "I was a doctor in Nigeria for about 5 years, then I worked at a free clinic before hand."

"What was your home like?"

"I had a 5:4 walk up, not really home," I sighed, "I don't even remember when I had a home."
I just lost the game.

I felt my eyes swell with tears, I was going to cry. The tears spilled over the edge and he pulled me close to him. I was willing to tell him now, if I could just stop crying.

AFter a while I managed to. "When I was born, I was born actually very rich, but my parents...they were kinda dumb. They didn't really have a plan. When they died when I was seven, I lost everything. My family, my home, and all my stuff. I was homeless for the next 10 years of my life, some charity paid for me to go to medical school, tuition, books, room and board all of it, if it wasn't for that chaity I would still have been homeless."

"Is that why you went to Nigeria?"

"Kinda the pay it foward thing, they saved my life, I felt the need to go where I would be the most help."
I just lost the game.

Colt smiled down at her. "I think that is amazing, not having to live on your own or anything, but helping others. Just think, if you hadn't come then you wouldn't have been able to help us, I wouldn't know you." He looked at her and smiled, "Now let's not talk depressing." He helped her up. "I need to show you the new lean-tos, they are completely done, but they almost are. I think i'm going make a living room type thing and all. I dont' know when we will be found and i want to make it as comfortable as possible."

I smiled, "that sounds nice," then I teasingly added, "do you think we could finangle a TV to hook up as well?"

We both laughed at that. "I don't think we can do that."

"Ah, but that would be wonderful." SHe laughed. He smiled and pulled her close kissing her.

"Sorry, that is one thing I can't do for you." He smiled when he pulled away. "Maybe we can reinvent it."

Colt smiled and led her towards the lean-to his side hurting from all the laughing. "Close your eyes." he smiled as they walked around the corner. He carefully led her over sticks and stuff. "Open them." He exclaimed, he had managed to put more bedding in the others and had put up sturdier walls and roofs on them along with making htem bigger.

It actually looked like a kids club house now, I smiled at the thought and turned to Colt, "this is awesome."

"Now if a hurricane hits we'd have a little more coverage."

My blood stilled in my veins. I hadn't thought of that.
I just lost the game.

You are going to love some of your characters because they are you, or some facet of you, and you are going to hate some characters for the same reason.
