Maximum Ride: The New Breed

(Lexy)

I felt something hard hit my neck. It scraped the side and I shot an angry glace at Rose.

"What was that for?" I yelled.

"What?" She said looking startled.

"What the hell did you hit me with a rock?!" My eyebrows clashed together.

"I didn't I swear!"

"Than who did?" I asked. We both stared passed some trees to see a guys body and some wings.... was it one of our own coming to find us? Or not?

[Blade]

The flock had barely taken off to "rescue" Rose, Lexy and Nate when we spotted some shadowy figures near the cave. Winged shadowy figures. Blade yelled at the others and they banked back towards them. Blade's landing was kind of rough, her knees collapsed from the impact when she hit the ground wrong and the momentum carried her straight into Lexy.

"Hey!" Lexy yelped as she was knocked to the ground.

Blade leapt up quickly, remembering her injuries, "Sorry!" She helped her up.The rest of the flock landed a little more gracefully behind her.

"We came back to get you," Blade told them, rubbing the back of her neck, "Not to maul you."

(ZT)

We sat on the ground opposite each other, staring each other down.

I couldn't wait 'til I could get rid of Reed and get back with Mayze.

*C'mon, Firestar! I need some help here!!*

(Lexy)

"Well at least you came back. Why didn't you leave without us?" I asked.

"Because we're not like that.... Any of us."

Like I haven't heard that one before... riiiiiight.

*Sorry it's short*

[Blade]

"Umm yeah so anyways, we're sleepin over here in this cave, c'mon," Blade suggested.

"Okay," everyone agreed. It was warmer in the cave.

We made the short journey to the cave and Blade ducked inside, followed by the others.

"We're back," Blade announced, happy to see the flock together again.

Reed-

Finally I told ZT, "I'm going to explore." Instantly he sat up straight, "And you're coming alone too, aren't you." I finished.

"I've gotta do something." he replied.

"Except sleep, of course." I said sarcastically.

He glared at me, then took off, allowing me time to join him in the sky before flying away. But he still made sure I kept in his sight. The dark clouds hanging over the mountains in the distance gave me chills. I had always been attracted to rain, but I had never been allowed out into it. I flew over to ZT and pointed out the clouds. He looked over and started, "Erasers!" he said sharply. I looked over at the clouds again, and spotted a few small dots flying toward us.

(ZT)

I was right. Reed was against us. And now he had targeted me. He would sit around and watch as they fought me... and I knew that I couldn't take more than a few.

(Rose)

Rose felt like she was going to scream when she heard Reed say that. All she wanted to do was sit in the cave and eat. Everyone else was jumping to their feet, ready for action. Reed and Blade were sticking their heads out of the cave, trying to get a clearer look at the erasers. Rose crawled to the edge of the cave and lay on her stomach. She rested her head on heer hands. ZT was flying back quickly.
"Watch out!" he shouted.

Blade and Reed withdrew their heads. Rose didn't think of rolling aside. She covered her head and lay flat. ZT shot towards the cave and almost slammed straight into Rose. She heard him fold his wings in and touch down onto the hard, dusty floor. She swivelled round and sat up.

ZT was wiping the raindrops of his face.
"I'm so glad you moved in time," he said drily.
Rose glanced up, her cheeks going pink. ZT was grinning. Blade pulled Rose to her feet.

"We still have erasers coming after us," Nate reminded the flock.
Everyone snapped back into action and squinted out into the rain. The dots were getting closer. There was quite a few of them, all streaming smoothly towards them. Rose could feel her heart sinking. I seemed like she wouldn't be eating for quite a while.
"Well.." She whispered.

[Stella]

**sorry this took so long***

I found some food. Sure they just blueberries, but it counts. It took every ounce of willpower I had to not eat them. I couldn’t fly back, which kind of depressed me but I trudged forward and walked into our temporary home, surprised to see Rose, Lexy, and Nate with them.

“I brought food.” I looked at the faces of my flock. “Whoever needs more food, grab handfuls and shove it into your mouth.” Rose was the first one who came up to me, and she shoved berries into her mouth gratefully.

*Um, guys... me and Reed are by ourselves! The erasers aren't by you!*

*It's okay, it did get kind of confusing there...*

(ZT)

I looked at the oncoming erasers, counting the dots. Automatically, my eye zoomed in, and I didn't have to worry about dots anymore. I could almost see their features.

There were 20.

An entire battalion.

And I doubt I could've taken ten, but if Reed wasn't going to help, I would never be able to take them all.

Then I remembered that I was injured.

Oh, sh-- my thoughts were interrupted by Reed.

"There's no way we can take them all!" he yelled at me.

Okay, so maybe he was going to help.

"I know!" I called back.

"We have to run... but do we run away from the erasers, or try to go towards them or find the flock?"

Mayze! echoed through my head. "There's no way we can outrun them! I'm too tired for that! They're still a ways away from us... and the flock shouldn't be too far away. I say we try to find the flock."

"Good, 'cause that's what I wanted to do!"

The part of me that didn't trust Reed thought, Yeah, so your erasers can catch the whole flock, instead of just me. But if we were with the flock, we could fend off 20 erasers.

Unless more came.

I prayed that I wasn't leading the flock into more danger... leading Mayze into danger... as both me and Reed took off towards them.

(Lexy)

I was extremely grateful for finding the flock again. But I noticed two people missing. I looked up at Rose,

"Where's ZT? And... where's Reed?" I turned my head in question but before Rose could say anything I puffed out my wings.... 'they went to go find us.' I thought and flew into the night trying to find them.

I finally landed on my feet, and took off running within a split second I ran into both guys making all three of us fall on our rears with me in the middle, we were all holding our heads were we knocked into each other

"Ow." We all said at once.

"Need a hand?" I said laughing.

"What?! How the-? Yeah." ZT finally said.

"It's not a laughing matter Alexandra." Reed shot and glared at me.

How the heck did he know my whole name? And why?

"It's Lexy, and it's so nice to see you too Reed. I'm fine, thanks." I looked over to see a couple... no more than a couple of erasers coming towards us.
"Oh, no." I breathed.

"My point exactly." Reed spoke. "Wow, this should be fun. Now get off your butt and lets go."

"I hear ya." I jump started and ran with them.

[Blade]

Blade glanced at the others as Lexy flew off into the night, then shrugged and unfurled her wings. She got a running start and then...

Flying is easy, you just throw yourself at the ground and miss.

It also helps if you have wings. Blade soared on an air current, loving the feeling of the wind in her feathers, and then scanned the ground.

Reed, ZT, and Lexy were on the ground preparing for a fight.

Yes!, Blade thought. She had missed out on enough action already. Bring it on, eraser scum!

"Hey guys," she greeted casually as she landed, "Ready to kick some eraser butt? Cuz I am."

"Let's go," ZT suggested and took off towards the erasers.

Ah, a flight fight. Even better.
