"Nah," I said. "I'm cool to stay up again." I might have cuts all over, but I had gotten enough rest during the day to stay up a bit through the night. "Uh, Reed, you kind of seem tired. So yeah..."
He did save your life... a voice inside me said. I know... but I don't trust him with the lives of the entire flock.
*By the way, I believe that Nate, Lexy, and Rose stayed behind. Now that we've lost the heli, I say we start heading back to them.*
The flock slowly slipped into a restless sleep, they were exhausted. Blade eyed Reed nervously and then stood up and went to sit next to ZT, making sure to stay a little ways away because she had seen him and Mayze together.
"What do you think of Reed?" Blade whispered, hoping Reed was really asleep, "I don't trust him."
*im cool with going back for nate, rose, and lexy after we rest*
After that disaster speech I knew that nobody would let me the only watch. That's why I wasn't surprised to hear some people whispering in the darkness. Though ZT had said I looked tired, I knew he was lying. With the suns energy still coursing through me from the day before, I didn't feel in the least bit tired. ZT was just getting an excuse to stay awake and keep an eye on me. No one trusted me now.

I stood silently, tired but unable to sleep. The adrenaline was coursing through me. Reed lay down, but his eyes were open and lost in thought. Blade was whispering to ZT, eyeing Reed carefully.
The news had caught me off guard, but I forced myself to put some faith in Reed. I focused on a plan to head back to Nate, Rose, and Lexy. My stomach rumbled. For the first time, I felt hungry.
Hungry plus tired can make people cranky. So can being chased by a helicopter. I took a couple of calming breaths and headed over to ZT. I stepped over a sleeping Colt and sat down in front of ZT.
“We need some food.” I pointed out bluntly, “All of us are spent and we still should go back for the others. But we need the energy to do so. As in food.”
"What are you doing?"
"I've got paint and rollers...water sking"~The Philanthropist
"Alright. Why don't you get some people to go get some food?" ZT asked.
"I can go do that." I heard Stella slip off to gather some of the flock. I lay next to ZT on the ground, attempting to get a bit of rest. ZT started his conversation up with Blade again.
"I'm not sure. He did save my life."
Blade shifted around a bit, "True but he knows so much about the School." The chopping sound of the helicopter split through the night. Blade and ZT ceased their whispering and watched the copter fly over our heads.
"And how do you explain the helicopter?" Blade resumed, a bit of metal edged her voice, "Honestly, I don't trust him."
ZT mumbled a bit to himself. He stopped, "Do you think Mayze is awake?"
I assumed Blade looked over at me, "If she is, she doesn't look it."
I felt the warmth of ZT's body as he bent over me to look into my face, "Wake up sleepy head. I need an opinion."
I inhaled sharply and stretched, acting as if I just woke up. "Yes?" I asked sleepily. For the first time I noticed it was dark outside. I looked at ZT.
"What do you think of that Reed guy?"
Hmmmmm, toughie. I thought about it for a moment, "Well," I started, "At first glance, I wouldn't trust him. Actually I think he wants to help."
ZT looked over at the figure standing a ways away, leaning on a tree. "Try looking at the wind. It works that way right? Can you tell if he's good or bad?"
I shrugged, "I can try to interpret what it's saying."
I switched my eyes to wind and immediately saw the currents floating around. The strings were very spread out and thin so it meant there was very little activity going on, weather and emotional wise.
"Which one's Reed?" I asked, not being able to distinguish who was who. I saw ZT's hand appear in my peripheral vision and point to the figure leaning on the tree. I could barely tell that he was a person. The wind had clumped around him, so in my vision he looked like a big, glowing gold blob.
I switched back and shook my head, "I think he's......sad?"
I saw ZT's face change. I think it was confused, I couldn't tell in the dark. "How could that be...." He asked.
Blade shrugged, "I still don't like him."
I switched my eyes again and confirmed it, he was sad. Or maybe it was...
"Uneasy." I said aloud. ZT turned to me.
"He's not comfortable with us." I turned to ZT, "Maybe we should go talk to him."
Rose lay on her back in the dark. Everyone had left her. She couldn't see where Lexy was lying. She didn't even now if Lexy was still alive, she hadn't seen her since she had gone after the helicopter. Nate was resting by the burnt out fire last time she bothered to look.
Rose lifted her head and sighed. She was so hungry it hurt. All she could do was lie down and sleep. Rose stretched and rolled onto her side. The cut on her arm stung. Will they ever come back for me? She thought to herself. Did they think I was dead?
"Nate?" Rose called out.
He didn't answer her. Rose shut her eyes and frowned. The images of the flock flashed through her mind. Even though it had only been a day she was starting to give up hope.
She knew her wings were fine and she was ok but if she set out to find them without Nate everything would become more complicated. She slammed her fist in the soft earth and brought her wings around like a blanket.

I heard Rose say Nate's name. Before I could stop it, my hand reached out and I slapped my hand over Rose's mouth and pulled her fastly into my chest, she accidently elbowed my ribs, sending an explosion of pain through me. My eyes started to water.
"Don't scream." I whispered loudly in her ear. She sagged against me in relief. "They're trying to find us. No, not the flock. The white coats." I relesesed her and backed up.
"Damnit, Lex. You freaking scared me to death."
I chuckled, "Your lucky I'm looking out for you. C'mon lets go."
"Go where?" Rose asked.
"Find the others." I spoke.
"But its dark." Rose looked around.
"I know... exactly my point." I shot back.
Rose shook her head in confusion. She trusted me with her life as I trusted her with mine.

[Blade]
Blade sank into a cross-legged position across from Reed, knowing that it would help conversation because they were all literally on an equal level. She saw ZT and Mayze follow her lead.
Reed shifted his posture into a more upright position and Blade noted the way he avoided her eyes. He knew she didn't trust him, and he didn't like it. Or maybe he was just shifty.
Blade blinked quickly, reminding herself to keep an open mind. She looked over at Mayze, hoping to encourage her to start the sure to be oh-so-wonderful conversation.
I wasn't aware of the three mutants that were walking toward me until they were almost on me? Blade and ZT looked wary and suspicious, while Mayze looked cool and calm.
"Hey," ZT said.
"What?" I replied.
The rest of our conversation showed me a side of ZT I hadn't seen before. Ever since I'd known him he was always trying to be the hero, now he was nervous, maybe even scared. But I didn't have long to think about this. Mayze came forward and spoke.
"To put it bluntly, we want to know if we can trust you." Mayze said calmly.
"Well it seems you have already made up your minds about that." I said, nodding to ZT and Blade. I saw a flicker of anger behind her eyes, but then she resumed.
"We would like to know if you are for us or against us." she said, but this time with a little more force in her voice.
"I'm for you!" I said firmly, and then added quietly, "I'd give my life for every single one of you."

"How'd you know that those people weren't the school?" I asked. "Because I didn't know that they put their logo on everything. Sure, I've seen the logo, but I've also seen places without it. And how do you know that they don't always wear their coats? It seems like you know too much about them."
Reed was silent, which ZT thought was the wrong move.
"Also... what was that that you threw in the stream the other day? I saw it through my artificial eye."
Mayze looked at me angrily. Okay, so now Reed probably didn't trust me. Gah, I was bad at this.
"I'm out," I said, standing up. I started to walk away.
Blade smiled a little at ZT's obvious frustration with himself but something else was occupying her mind. Reed had said he would give his life for every single one of us. He had looked sincere too.
Maybe they could trust him?
"ZT, stay here," Blade called, "We're not done yet."
He turned around and watched Blade as she searched for the right words. Which she didn't find. So instead she blurted out her mind.
"How bout we start with one thing at a time, sheesh. Reed, I can tell you're for us but that doesn't make me trust you much more. We still don't know anything about you and there are a lot of suspicious things to go off of. If you want our trust, you're going to have to earn it somehow. And soon."
Blade had told me that I needed to earn the new flocks trust soon. I knew I could get their trust with time, but time wasn't on my side. I heard had heard from the whitecoats how dangerous mutants could get without their medication. There was one girl, Maximum Ride, who killed her own brother after she ran away. Yes, I needed to earn their trust very soon.
(Sorry! All I've got at the moment.)
