Jared

"Will you please put away your wand?" Felicia asked, getting annoyed. She looked at Chris and shook her head. Jared was unbelievably annoying sometimes.

Jared frowned at his sister and put away his wand. The train was now rolling over the hills, around lakes and such. Quietly, he pulled out his book of spells and started muttering them repeatedly under his breath.

"Lumos," he whispered quietly, reading his book. But of course, nothing happened because his wand was put away, "Lumos is used for an instant light source from the wand."

Felicia laughed and said, "Lumos is such a first year spell. We rarely ever use it..."

The compartment burst out laughing, but Jared ignored her. He needed to memorize each and every spell...

(Two things: first, this post is enormous. Didn't mean for it to be this long, so I apologize in advance. Second, I rather dislike controlling characters other than my own, so I won't be doing much of that.)

[Matt]

One thing I've noticed through my brief life of sixteen years is that most people are idiots – muggles or wizards, it doesn't matter. Take, for instance, King's Cross. Twice, at about the same time each year, a whole crap-load of wizard kids, accompanied often by their ill-dressed families, disapear or reappear through a solid wall in the midst of large crowds of muggles. The wizards don't understand how obvious they're being, but the muggles never notice.

Idiocy.

I, however, was not an idiot. I dressed appropriately. I blended right in.

My mom is a witch, dad is a muggle. I don't think my dad even knew; they divorced eons ago, because my dad thought my mom was insane; turns out, she was. She spends her days at St. Mungos now, completely off her rocker. I was born in America and moved to England when I was nine, because my dad works for the United States government and pretty much lives at the U.S. Embassy of London.

As usual, he was not here to see me off. That was fine; I hated his guts.

I waited for traffic to clear before passing the barrier. Annoyingly, some big-eared 3rd Year was taking forever with it, and I was about to step up and shove him through myself when he finally gathered his courage and charged through. I followed, steadying my trolly, and slipped through without a hitch. The Hogwart's Express appeared before me, and I pushed my trolly out of the way to make room for others, removing the cover from my owl's cage. He was a small Elf Owl, affectionately named Tidbit. I kept him covered in front of muggles, because it's not like people carting around owls in cages is weird or anything.

Tidbit sqeaked in apreciation. I hefted both his cage and my trunk and made for the train, dodging past other students making their final goodbyes. I stepped aboard, passing the first few appartments. One I passed was open slightly; I caught part of a conversation, coming from a pair of players of the Gryffindors who were on the Quidditch team last year – Karsh Ferrin and Adrianne Perdue.

"… set for this year's quidditch games?"

"You know it."

We were friends. Most of the school thought it was odd that I got along better with students from different houses, but that meant little to me. Both were skilled Quittitch players, and I admired Karsh's outgoing personality; Adri wasn't bad on the eyes, either.

"Plotting already, are we?" I said, slipping into the compartment; I noticed Karsh was wearing a Captain's badge. Adri had out her sketchbook – go figure.

"Hey, all right, Kar – who exchange money with whom for you to get that badge?" I joked, storing my trunk and taking a seet across from Adri. From within his cage, Tidbit squeaked at her.
"Buy, buy, buy, buy; sell, sell, sell
How well you've learned to not discern;
Who's foe and who is friend,
We'll own them all in the end."

I looked up at the sound of Tidbit's small chirp.

"Hey, Matt," I set my booklet down, slipping a pencil in the crease of the pages. I stroked the wire of the owl's cage. "Heya, Tidbit."

Immediately, the three of us forgot about the noise from the neighboring cabin and burst into conversation.

(Couldn't help it; Matt's a jerk to, like, 90% of everyone. That's just how he is. =P)

[Matt]

Tidbit squeaked again in response; he liked Adri.

"How's it going, Adri? Enjoy your summer?"

Better than mine, I bet.

"How's your team going to look? Slytherin's been useless for years, but I think you guys have some serious potential – with the two of you, that is. Think you'll find some halfway decent additions?"

"Aw, Matt, don't criticize Slytherin that bad! They're pretty decent on the field."

Karsh shrugged. "I hope we get some good players this year. I'd really like to get that cup again."

I looked at him, smiling. "We've only won it several years straight!"

We all laughed at that.

I watched half-annoyed, half-amused as Jared chattered on excitedly, talking about his new wand.

I rolled my eyes; he was so excitable sometimes, “Yes, Jared, we all know that. Just calm down, all right?"

He flashed a grin and looked away. Korren caught my eye and put on a stupid face. I stifled a laugh, remembering how much I had missed him.

Jared looked back, slightly suspicious of our twin grins but before he could accuse me of anything, I added, “Will you please put away your wand?" He frowned at me but obeyed and took out his spell book instead.

“Lumos," he muttered to himself, engrossed in his book, "Lumos is used for an instant light source from the wand."

I smiled at his antics but couldn’t resist teasing him just a bit, “Lumos is such a first year spell. We rarely ever use it..."

He got such a funny look on his face as he concentrated on ignoring me that we all burst out laughing.

We were interrupted yet again; this time by Chris Monerbone, a Gryffindor in my year. He nodded at us and sat down.

“Hey Chris, what’s up?”

Selena:

I begin to change into my robes, letting the soothing motion of the train lull me into a half-trance. Emotions barely flick through my head; regret for leaving my parents, and mingled with my happiness.

What would it be like at Hogwarts this year? I would no longer be a first year, doomed to be pushed around and bullied by the other students. Lost in my own fantasy, I sit back into my seat, fully dressed, and let myself fall into a gentle half-sleep.....

Jared flipped to random pages of his spell book and muttered more incantations, and then grew tired. He realized that he had not slept at all last night, and so he decided to take a quick nap. Jared would wake up when the train stopped...yes...He yawned and curled in the corner of the compartment.

He was standing there. It was him. Jared knew that it had to be. Dumbledore, the famous wizard that everyone used to talk about when he was little. He was standing in front of him! Excitedly, Jared rushed over to him, but a deadly voice stopped him.

"Avadra Kedavra," the voice said, and a bright green light filled Jared's eyes. He gasped and ducked, and the killing curse flew over his head. Jared heard a grunt, and his eyes flitted over to Dumbledore. The ancient wizard looked horrified, and the green light slammed into his chest. The room grew deadly silent, and then Dumbledore fell to the ground, his eyes white, and his heart dead.

Jared's eyes flashed opened and screamed. Everyone gasped and looked at him.

"What?" Felecia asked, scrutinizing Jared. Her eyes were wide and alert.

"I just saw...I just saw..." Jared cried, but couldn't finish his sentence.

"You saw who?" His sister demanded.

Jared looked up at her and whispered, "I saw Grindlewald murder Dumbledore!"

Felicia

No one said anything and after a while, I lapsed into the half-awake state that would carry me through the long trip to Hogwarts. I tried to ignore the excitement building in my gut, focusing my attention on the window. The rolling landscape flashed by in short clips, but my eyes stayed locked on a small crack about half a foot from Korren’s head. It was slightly longer than the length of his nose and ran vertical before curving halfway down.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a movement. I glanced over to find Jared settling into a little ball in the corner of the compartment. I smiled to myself and nudged Korren.

His brown eyes met mine and he raised his eyebrows characteristically, not bothering to ask his question aloud. I nodded towards Jared.

He grinned, probably remembering my first year; I had nodded off too. I studied Jared, he was almost unrecognizable with his mouth shut and his usually wide eyes closed.

I shook my head and turned to Korren, “So, you looking forward to Quidditch this year?”

He grinned and I knew the answer before it got out of his mouth, “Ready for Karsh’s early morning practices, waking up before anyone else, going without breakfast, flying in the rain and snow? Yup, of course!”

I laughed, “Ah the joys of Quidditch.”

He laughed too, “Yep.”

Then he got a faraway look in his eyes and I knew he was daydreaming about Quidditch. As was I. I stared at the leather seats, remembering the feeling of the broom under me, the wind in my face, my fingers locked around the golden snitch, its tiny wings struggling frantically against my palm…

Quidditch…

Ah, how I had missed it. I had tried to get my mum to let me play over the summer break but she had been worried about the muggles. Man, I missed Hogwarts.

Jared screamed, high pitched and terrified, a sound I had never heard him make before. And hoped to never hear again.

“What?” I demanded, eyes wide, taking in every detail. Jared’s eyes were enormous, seeming to bulge out of his head and his pupils had an oddly terrified look to them. His mouth hung open, and his lower lip quivered slightly.

“I just saw… I just saw…” he stuttered, eyes widening with each word.

“You saw who?” I demanded again, frantic now.

“I saw Grindlewald murder Dumbledore!” he whispered.

Holy crap.

Ally Wilson

Ally pulled her suitcase along, her mouth tightened and her face angry as she tried to find her friends. She had been made Ravenclaw Prefect. Was that even possible for a third year? That didn't matter though. She didn't want to be Prefect. She just wanted to.... be. She wanted this year to be carefree.

She opened the door, finally seeing her group. Looking at everyone's expression, she raised one eyebrow.

"Uh, what's going on, guys?"

Karsh laid back, grinning. "Still, I think we have some serious competition. I mean, look at Harry Potter. He was a first year when he was pulled in as a master seeker. Heh, you never know. Maybe the first years will pull a fast one on us."

They shared their assorted chuckles, talking rapidly about new spells they found and random topics. Karsh watched as Matt's eyes kept falling on Adri. He was already trying to send the sparks flying. Maybe he should give him a run for his money... Karsh had known Adri ever since she started coming here, but he never did show his feelings. Maybe this was the chance he was looking for.

"... saw some first year that may have some skill on the broom. " Karsh barely heard the end of Adri's sentence. "Should we look into the first years for backups, Karsh?"

Karsh blinked, coming back to reality. "Oh. Uh, yeah it might be worth a shot."

Adri

I ignored that strange gleam in his eyes. What's going on here? What are these boys up to?

Anyways. "I mean, Harry Potter's the perfect example, as you said! What if we have some people like that? Our team is filled, yes, but what if one of them gets hurt or gets sick? We need backup this time! We need to stay in the game!"

I knew he wasn't listening. He was daydreaming, but about what? And the way he kept looking at me...Matt had the same strange behavior, as well...

Okay...I think I know what's going on. And I'm going to make it really hard, too. This year will be so much fun!

I smiled as we continued to talk about Quidditch, spells, and anything else that came to mind.

So that's the way it's going to be, is it, Kar?

Well then.

What was annoying was that Karsh had a huge thing working in his favor; he was in Gryffindor House and I was not. Obvious, but it was a big advantage. They shared meal time, they shared a common room, and they shared Quidditch practice. That meant I had my work cut out for me – not that I didn't appreicate a challenege.

Halfway through our discussion on which pro Quidditch teams would perform well the coming year, the sweet cart made its first appearance.

"Ah, good," I said. "I was getting a little hungry. Adri? Kar? You guys want anything? I'll buy."

*that's it, I am changing to first person. It is appealing to me right now.*

I saw the looks in both their eyes. Matt's look challenged me, he knew well what was coming along. As for Adri, she was plotting her ways to make this complicated. This year was going to interesting.

"I'm up for a couple chocolate frogs, if you wouldn't mind."

A trite addiction of mine, those chocolate frogs. As well as the cards hidden beneath them.

Adri looked, the mischievous grin still hidden on her face. "I wouldn't mind some pumpkin juice and toffee."

Matt pulled a few knuts from his robes, giving another challenging look to me. "No problem."

My eyes thinned in friendly challenging. Bring it on, Matt. Bring it on.

To be a master of metaphor is the greatest thing by far. It is the one thing that cannot be learnt from others, and it is also a sign of genius.
