The Random Vampire Story [1]

Caiden gasped and was knocked back into the door frame. Images of a very brutal murder filled her head, and it was from the point of view of HER killing her boss.

"My memory's good enough for ya?"

Caiden nodded but wasn't sure what Colt felt like.

Colt-

Colt blinked a few time and wrapped his arms around Caiden's shoulders.

"That is enough. "He sighed.

Caiden leaned slightly into Colt, aware that he was probably still tired too.

"Let's go back to bed," he said turning away.

"Mmmm" Caiden groaned, "good idea."

Colt-

Colt led Caiden back to their room and laid down on the bed pulling her close to him the images running through his mind over and over again.

Caiden fell asleep quickly the first time, but woke up again and again, the images left in her mind making it impossible to stay asleep for long. Colt was still asleep, like he was too exausted to wake up but the look on his face showed that he couldn't forget the images either.

Shuddering Caiden laid her head on his chest and tried once again to sleep, exausted, but unable to close her eyes.

Colt-

Colt tried to wake up, but he never could. He fought with the images, but couldn't wake up.

Caiden didn't know how long she lay there, her eyes wide open and frozen but she didn't move, didn't really think actually. It was like she was being asleep while still being awake.

What snapped her out of the haze was an ache in her stomach, how long since they had eaten? Too long she realized. Maybe she should wake Colt up and go do that...

"Colt," she said shoving his shoulder, "Love wake up, we need to eat something."

He didn't move.

"Colt!" she said more sternly. "Colt wake up!" she could feel her panic rising, could vampires starve to death?

Colt-

Colt could hear Caiden's voice. He reached towards, least he thought he did. He moaned as another image flashed by his eyes.

"Caiden?" He called out.

Colt called out Caiden's name in such desperation that Caiden's heart ached. The only thing she could think to do was feed him. She bit her wrist with enough pressure to break the skin. Without saying anything she held it up to his mouth. Instinct must have taken over because he drank.

Colt-

Colt felt the wonderful taste of blood, Caiden's blood. He moaned trying to stop from drinking, but his instincts wouldn't let him.

Caiden stroked his hair while he drank, she didn't know when she would have to stop before it was too late, and she didn't until he cracked an eye open and locked onto her wrist for another moment before he blinked and pushed it away. He looked like he wanted to rip her throat out for a moment before he sank his teeth into his own arm. She tried to pull him away but he wouldn't. Finally she licked her wrist and it healed hoping that it would help him stop. It did.

Colt-

Colt licked his own wrist and then looked at Caiden and stood up.

"You shouldn't have done that." He growled.

"You wouldn't wake up," she gasped everything going a little fuzzy. She sank down into the bed wanting to close her eyes and sleep but she couldn't. She was forced awake.

Colt-

Colt growled inwardly.

"Caiden, you need a drink." He sighed, "Let's go." He picked her up and went hunting for a meal for both of them.

"I can walk," Caiden said stubbornly, "you don't need to carry me."

"You won't be able to walk more than a step."

"Yes I will."

Colt put her down on her feet. She managed two steps before she collapsed into him again.

"See I told you," she said with a faint smile, things were going black. But not the good black of sleep, the black of death.
