Adam was so happy to be rid of Merlin, at last things were getting back to normal. The only real problem was the knowledge the dying the spirit had left in Adam's head. He wondered if Sara had it too, but there was no reason to spil the evening with the matter.

They danced for a long time it seemed, until the teachers told them hurry off to bed at around five in the morning. He walked her to the portrait of the flat, all the butterflies in his stomach fluttered away when he kissed Sara on the cheek and hurried off for the Hufflepuff dormitory.

Sara grinned, leaning against the wall while watching Adam walk quickly away from the Griffindor portrait. She was lovestruck for the first time in her life, and practically walking on clouds.

"Pigsnout," she said, and the portrait swung open. Sara walked through, into the empty common room. Lindsay was on her way up the stairs. "Linds!" Sara exclaimed, taking another step forward. Something grabbed her around the waist, covering her mouth as she tried to scream.

On the way back to the common room, Alice almost litterally past out. She was walking, and then got dizzy and fainted.

'Well hows that for perfect timing.' he thought as he carried her in his arms. He kissed her forhead, and she woke with a start. She shook her head a little and looked around.

"Oh, no, I fainted didnt I?" she asked looking horrified.

"Maybe, or i always could have hit you with a stick and made it seem like you passed out. The world may never no." said Calder smiling.

Alice smiled and gently bopped him upside the head, "you can put me down now."

"And risk you passing out again? No thank you."

Alice sighed, "you're very strange you know that?"

Calder kissed the side of her mouth, "you betcha."

*Okay guys, when Alice finally confesses that she's a Yank to yous, i want your characters to make kinda a big deal out of it okay?*

I had been sitting around in the common room for a while. It was empty now that almost all of the students had gotten back and went to bed. I figured I might as well too. I got up form the chair in the back corner of the room and headed for the stairs. I started to walk up and I heard the door open. Sara shouted my name and I sighed. I didn't really want to talk at all, but I stopped on the steps and turned around. I saw her smiling face and all of the sudden something grabbed her. I couldn't see what it was but I whipped my wand out and flew back down the stairs toward Sara and the dark figure.

*Yeah, figured I'd put something, but I didn't know what....*

Kate

I climbed into my bed and snuggled deep under the covers, allowing my eyelids to droop, my head filled with happy thoughts of dancing with Jesse. I don't know how long I laid like that but I found that I could not sleep. Something was bothering me. That something was a letter I had received by air mail just an hour previously. With a sigh, I sat up and lit my wand before peering at the neatly folded note.

Dear Kate,

You will regret the day you betrayed me.

That was it. No name, no further explanation. Who could I have possibly betrayed? With a sigh, I tucked it back into my pocket and lay back down. Then I heard the sound of heavy, rapid footsteps. Who was running about at this time? I got out of bed.

Jesse laid in his bed thinking about the dance. He had never been happier than when he was dancing and talking to Kate. His heart pounded just thinking about her. He couldn't sleep at all. He got up and tip-toed down the stairs so no one would wake up. He sat in one of the big armchairs by the fire and looked into the orange flames. He heard a voice but when he looked around there was nothing but himself, the chair, and the fire.

Someone you love will suffer. The voice chanted over and over again.

As usual, Calder and ALice fell asleep on th couch. They woke up and everyone was staring at them

"What?" they said, looking at the croud. They giggled, and snickered, but the circle broke up. They all stood there in the common room, waiting for something to happen.

"So,"said Calder,"down to breakfast?"he suggested.

Jesse awoke in the big chair in the Ravenclaw common room. Everyone had gone down to breakfast so it was very quiet. Then he remembered the chanting in his head last night. Someone you love will suffer. He didn't know what that meant. He got up out of the chair and changed into some fresh clothes. He walked down to the portrait hole and opended it. He hoped he wouldn't miss Kate so they could walk together.
"So, I was thinking, I've always wanted to ride a TaunTaun."
"Ummmm....I asked you answer the math problem on the board."
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did."
"Yeah well, that's your opinion."...............A conversation between my teacher and I.

Kate

"Sara? Lindsay?" I mumbled as consciousness slowly returned. I found myself crumpled on a cold, stone floor with a nightmare of a headache. For a moment, I was confused, blinking the sleep from my eyes and then I remembered. The dark figure. The short battle that had followed and then that strange, blue powder. Sleeping powder? Figures. And where were my friends? What was going on? Where was I?

I pulled myself to my knees and inspected the room. Larger than I had thought. A classroom. An underground classroom? One of the potion labs? But then where were the desks, the chairs.

"Kate, over here," Sara called. I turned to see her and Lindsay crouched by a door, their heads pressed against it.

"You're alright," I smiled weakly as I approached them and sank down beside them.

"You have any idea of where we are or why we're here?" Lindsay asked. I nodded and groped in my pocket for the note.

"Who sent it?" Sara asked, leaning over to read it.

"No idea," I said.

***I'm back!!! (be afraid)*** *clears her throat and continues the story to the best of her capabilities*

"Who could you of betrayed?" Linds asked.

"I don't know!" Kate was flustered, I could see it in her eyes. She looked to be near tears.

"Don't worry Kate, we'll figure this out. There's one thing our captor forgot." I reached for my back pocket. "Oops...nevermind."

"What?"

"He...or she... got our wands." Sara explained. "Curses..."

"Shh, I hear something," Linds whispered, pressing her ear to the door.

They went down to the hall, Alice sliding down the banister and stumbeling onto the floor. "Ouch," she said but got to her feet swiftly.

When they got to the cafeteria the first thing she noticed was that Belle, Lindsay and Kate weren't there, and that Jesse was looking around fidgeting worriedly. She dragged Calder over and looked at him, "what's wrong?"

"N-nothing," he replied quickly, too quickly for Alice to catch his tone and see if he were lying or not.

"ARe you sure?"

"I'm positive."

"LEts go sit down then," Calder said and started dragging Alice and Jesse off towards the table.

"What is it?" Sara whispered.

"Footsteps," Lindsay replied. "But they're getting further away."

"Well what are we going to do?" Sara threw her arms up in despair and kicked violently at the wall.

"Try and figure this out," Lindsay decided. "Think Kate, who could have sent the note?" I ran the question around my head but no names came to mind.

"I don't know. A slytherin perhaps? I mean, I haven't really talked to anyone other than you guys and the others since I started here. I don't know anyone well enough to betray them."

"What about the people you knew before you started Hogwarts?" Sara prompted.

"Only my family and a few family friends..."
