"And they'll be of use to Wilhuff and myself as well, I would hope. They were there, after all. It's possible they know more than we do." She sighed heavily. "It would have been easier to learn more if most of them weren't dead. That was perhaps an oversight on my husband's part...I still don't see why he had to kill all of them."

"My opinion on that would be biased." He said, glancing idly at his staff against the wall. That was one thing that irked him about Tarkin. In the end, he was no different than those who had scourged Dathomir. "But I don't foresee it being difficult to uncover any secrets they may hold about your son." The magicks of the sisters had a great deal to do with seeing through the eyes of those long past. The power of Atoa's moon was strong and her people's spirits were forever entwined with it. The spells he hoped to learn would not expand his power and abilities, but they would allow him to uncover even more about the fate of the young Tarkin.

Thalassa rested her chin on her hand staring off into the distance. "I don't know how much they'll be able to tell you," she sighed. "Or if they'll want to tell you anything at all. That event was the catalyst for a genocide; they may not want to revisit something like that."

"Some things can be said without words. I won't know till I meet them but I do not plan on returning empty handed." He glanced down at the table in front of him, his eyes wandering the surface as he too appeared occupied with his own thoughts.
Sirejj had become invested in this story, whether he acknowledged it or not. There was of course the threat of demise if he didn't cooperate- he would have been dead two or three times over by now if he'd not been useful to the Tarkins. That was a massive part of it . But one small part of him truly wanted the truth to be uncovered, if even to bring a few spirits to rest. He couldn't care less about Tarkin's feelings; he didn't even think the man was capable of feeling anything but poison at this point. Young Garoche on the other hand still had a spark of life within him, and Tarkin had done his best to stamp it out. It this destructive philosophy that Sirejj despised. He would get great satisfaction if the haughty Wilhuff Tarkin finally saw the error of his ways. Unfortunately, he sensed there was a slim chance of that.

"I would like very much to be alongside you both when things come to fruition," she sighed. "Being away is more difficult than you could possibly understand. But if there's one thing I trust my husband to do, it's to stick to a goal until it's complete. He'll see this through." She looked up at Sirejj. "Thank you for aiding us. We've both been quiet about it so long...it's not fair to Garoche."

"Hm." He watched her carefully, reading her actions. "You say fair as if you suspect injustice?" He in fact had no idea what she expected, but was stepping out on a limb to test her reaction. There was certainly suspicion surrounding the events on Atoa

Thalassa hesitated. "...I expect that placing the blame should have been more nuanced. We were swift to blame only the Atoans, but we know nothing of what transpired before the cathedral fell. We don't know how Lord Vader responded to the Atoans, how he attempted to free Garoche, and why this priestess felt her only option was to bring down the cathedral."
Her gaze grew distant; she was remembering how Tarkin had brought her the news, the ensuing torrent of grief and anger, the blame she had placed on him for trusting Vader with the safety of their only child. They had separated shortly thereafter, and that particular wound had never quite closed. Thalassa had had reservations about Garoche's death long before Tarkin had even finished processing it.
"Vader is not a stable person, as you've seen," she said carefully. "I don't believe Garoche died directly because of him, but I imagine that Vader took a route that could have been avoided. Diplomacy is not his strong suit."

They were similar questions to those Tarkin had, but without the veiled distrust. The Lady Tarkin at least seemed far more upfront and honest.
"I see." He pondered for a moment. He could feel the fleeting memories of pain and fury. She had loved this boy dearly; a feeling he wasn't sure he'd sensed with Tarkin himself.
A common denominator between the questions of the couple was a singular figure: Darth Vader. After his encounter and experiencing first hand his paranoia surrounding the Atoa situation, Sirejj began to wonder if Vader indeed had a far larger part to play in this than they had first believed.
Of course, fate would pit them against him.

"Wilhuff mentioned that you were looking around for things that might help," she said after a moment. "Searching the house for...memories, I suppose? Is that right? Have you found anything helpful?"

my family is playing cards while im over here trying to write and why do they have to be so darn loud
Sirejj thought about that for a moment, trying to come up with the best way to explain it.
"I have grown to know you son. That is what will help me find answers. In order to find him, I must be able to have a clear picture of what I'm searching for." Tarkin had given up a blessed few details regarding the deep emotions of Garoche. Though Sirejj imagined discussing such things would be a tall order for such a repressed individual.

Hehe that's family for ya. My sister and mom and I were just walking in the woods in the dark. Mom wanted spiderwort for her garden.
Thalassa regarded him with a tight-lipped expression. Her mind revealed caution, hope, and concern. A little bit of anxiety was also present, stirring up the grief that had laid dormant for so long.
"What is your opinion of my son?" she asked. "What is the picture these memories have painted?"

that sounds fantastic. only thing is we have alien bugs and I don't think I'd come out of the woods in the dark without at least one mosquito borne illness and a snakebite.
we do our fair share of plant gathering. mom has a pretty substantial garden herself, mostly herbs and veggies though
"Correct me if I'm wrong." Sirejj pondered again, the green color of his eyes deepening as he brought himself back to the memories of those dark hallways. "He was a kinder soul than his father allows himself to believe. Much of his past is hidden from me. He seemed to bury many of his true feelings so far that I cannot even see them." Sirejj glanced towards the door. "He did, after all, learn from the best."

Ahh nice! Bet those veggies taste amazing. We had some garden cucumber in our salad tonight.
Thalassa followed his gaze, jaw tightening. "So he did," she said quietly. "So he did."
A pair of servants entered with two platters, which they set out in front of Sirejj and Thalassa. She gave a nod of thanks and was silent until they left, then picked up her fork. "You're correct on all counts," she said once the footsteps had faded away. "Garoche felt too much too often for his father's liking. There was never a place for a large heart among the Tarkins--not really." She looked down at her plate. "He might not have survived without my help."

we have a peach tree that didn't do great but the few peaches it did make were incredible. Honestly mustard and turnip greens are my favorite. I'll fistfight someone for those at thanksgiving.
Sirejj used the utensils provided instead of his rather large knife. It did well for killing prey and skinning it in the woods, but not a polite meal.
"He confided in you. That much I did see." He was ever watching her, reading her as closely as he could. He knew she was intelligent enough to notice if he was truly prying into her mind, so he was careful.
"I know I asked you this before. And feel free not to answer. But is there anything, particularly around the last time you heard from him, that you suspect he was particularly careful in concealing? Particularly from his father?" Garoche was a true Tarkin in that his thoughts were illusive...which made Sirejj even more determined to see what they had been.

Peaches!! Oh man! I love some peaches but all I can get ahold of are the ones from Walmart.
Thalassa stalled by taking a few bites of food, but a memory had gone straight to the front of her mind.
"...This stays in between us," she said firmly. "You're not to speak of this with Wilhuff; he can offer you nothing of use where this matter is concerned. I want you to swear you won't bring it up before I tell you anything."
