Down to the Depths

Thomas nervously laughed. "He's in his house...? Ove there." He pointed at a giant tree in the distance.

Onni squinted at the tree. "Is Brian a fucking squirrel?"

"Did you perhaps mean a house under the tree, over the tree, inside the tree?" asked Sylvie. Onni's point was valid but also it was a massive true. It could probably hide a small house within the branches.

Thomas gave her a forced smile. "He lives in a treehouse. He is not a squirrel." He paused. "Probably."

Onni nodded. "Thank you."

"Thank you kindly, sir. We'll get out of your hair now," said Sylvie, flashing him another salesman smile and turning away.

Thomas shook his head and muttered, "is Brian a squirrel," before closing the door.

Onni winced. "Oops?"

"I think you gave him a post life crisis," said Sylvie," congratulations."

Onni groaned. "What court of law decided to let me talk to people? Dead or otherwise?"

"No court of law would ever do that, Onni" said Sylvie.

Onni frowned. "Wow. Betrayed by my lover in my hour of need. Who will help you find Brian now that you've left me sick and dying?"

"OH I would never," said Sylvie, grabbing Onni's hand. "I was joking."

Onni sighed, dramatically falling into Sylvie's arms. "It is too late. The damage is done." Ey closed eir eyes as if ey had fainted.

Ey opened one eye. "But there is one thing that might bring me back." Ey closed eir eyes again.

Sylvie hugged Onni tightly. "No. Please No. Anything. I will do anything."

"Kiss me, so my heart will know it wasn't abandoned, and I may heal." Onni couldn't stifle eir grin.

"Anything for my love," said Sylvie, doing her best to hide her grin and she gently leaned down.

Onni giggled and kissed her.
