Oh, and fortunately, the mine field isn't there the whole time. (It disappears after a while, but I'm sure she can summon another one if you give her the chance - I didn't.) Nevertheless, that doesn't mean I didn't have to blink out of the way of her attacks or hide behind trees the whole time, since I had to play chicken throughout the entire battle. (Mages have very high attack, but very low defense...)
Speaking of classes, if you do play the game, avoid the Might ability tree if you can, since it makes your character OP. (Many players have asked for a mod to increase the difficulty, but 28 Studios - at least, I think that's the name - went bankrupt, so it simply never happened. It's a shame, since they were planning a sequel too! Supposedly, the gameplay, difficulty, scenery, basically everything would have been improved.)

And I agree with your statement that she doesn't act like all the other bosses. For one, she's the only one smart enough to make you do most of her work for her, and for another, she effortlessly decimated the ranks of the most powerful magical order in Amalur, all while keeping her plans hidden from everyone.
She's the kind of boss who doesn't need anyone's help to remain in power and is so powerful, only a being one step short of divinity can kill her. Heck, she even beats the final boss in that respect. (Her reign lasted longer than a decade too.)
@Charizard821, I concur. But it shouldn't necessarily be the creator of the battle; rather, it should be the writer. Robusto creates all of the Psyche battles, but if Flurry were to fight Alek, for example, he would set the battle up, but he would have to decide whether the Battle was a success. Buggie wouldn't get to vote, since she'd have written the post with the intent that it succeeds. (And I look forward to your post! )

EXACTLY, hence the two examples I provided. She seem to be a mix of the two: close to god-like powers, and yet keeps a fun facade for you to believe that she's a nice old queen enjoyin' her life. Really lookin' forward to fight her.

I definitely agree on the god-like powers, @Tortwag, but she's the type of empress who doesn't care what others think about her. If she wants something, she's willing to squash everyone in her way.

(You'll see that some of the creatures are also really unique. But a word of advice: avoid threshes and crudoks at first, since they're extremely powerful and are usually surrounded by boggarts or brownies respectively.)

Well, Crudoks aren't that bad, since you encounter them in Webwood already, but watch out for Threshes. They mostly live in the Sidhe, but your first encounter with one is more deadly, since it's a Bog Thresh surrounded by three Boggart Plaguebearers.

Agreed, @AstralHunter. Well, an interesting end to my day. I was asked out by a girl whom I had to reject because I have a girlfriend already. Obviously being rejected is hard, but who knew doing the rejecting was also a task? I feel kinda bad for her because I know she'll be upset, but what can you do?
Seriously though, I don't envy your position. I think I'd rather be the one who is rejected than the one who needs to do the rejecting.

They can be referenced if you'd like @15253. But if you plan to have them show up at some point, then that means they can't die off in the prequel and you can't just decide in the future you don't want to be in the prequel, otherwise your character will be handed off to someone else. Think long and hard on your final decision... And the Alek fight is done. I'll post it once I finish my vittles. And we get a brief glimpse of an inter New Order power struggle...
