Very very last minute...
something and therefore nothing
weightless
album coversSpoiler
album covers
i wonder of people ever
look at anything the way they do in
album covers.
eyes darkened in solemnity,
lips ajar in want and desire,
the way people look at
their own reflection.
they wrap their hands over themselves,
let their hair cascade down their backs,
turn their chins over their shoulders, as if to say,
yes, this body is mine, all mine.
magnify the shadows,
amplify the lights,
stretch out faces and
distort the features;
the same ones who hug themselves
in monochrome shadows
stand strong and firm
in long, sequined waterfalls.
no, they’ll never lean at the same angle,
twist or relax their face,
let the light graze their bodies
in quite the same way again.
no,
perhaps it is their true form,
or perhaps the true form of the one they put on,
photographed at the perfect time and place,
framed with all the right lights and colors.
yes, i wish i could be in an album cover.
i wonder if people ever say the things they do in songs,
to each other,
to themselves,
in their heads.
the truth, always the truth,
or what they think is the truth,
but never something to be said elsewhere.
basking under the spotlight,
words are meant to be sung.
perhaps weaving a melody into words
distracts one from the
loose threads of the words we could never say.
yes, i suppose songs are the most
human thing we could ever perform.
yes, i wish i could say aloud the things that are sung in songs.
and yes, some part of us is highlighted,
some thoughts lit aglow,
given the light,
and the shadow too,
in a musical verse.
some central gravity is found,
some space in the atmosphere,
some bones rooted to the ground,
and we turn to our truest human form.
