Thomas Dayton breathed in another breath of the crisp morning air, as he looked around campus to see if he could spot Kelly. She was only the most perfect girl he had ever met. She had fire red hair, stone gray eyes, and a lot of sass. His phone chimed, causing him to jump. “Hey, looking everywhere 4 U. R U around?” Kelly was super cute. He typed quickly, as if desperate for a response.

“Hey Kell…. Yep i'm around. I will meet you by your first period in 5 minutes.”

“Ok cya then.”

Kelly walked quickly to homeroom, Mr. Torveil, creative writing, and dropped off her backpack in the classroom. A few seconds later, she spotted Thomas strutting down the hall towards her. “Kelly! It’s so great to see you again. I missed you so much! Did you have a good winter break?” She smiled as she answered in her shy and quiet voice. “Hey Thomas. Missed you too. I had an okay winter break. It was pretty uneventful. I'm just happy to be back. What about you? Did you have a good winter break, Thomas?” Thomas didn't feel like talking. Not about useless things like a winter break. He couldn't really tell her all that happened was night after night, his dad came home drunk and passed out, so instead, he nodded his head and changed the subject to something much happier. “Kelly, I think I need to tell you something that I probably should have told you a long time ago. I like you. Like I have a crush on you. I have since the beginning of the seventh grade and I still do. Will you consider going out with me?” As soon as be asked the question he regretted it. What if he rejected her? Things would be so weird between the two of them. “No.” He looked at her with deep sadness. “No? No, you won't even consider it?” She smiled at him. “I don't need to consider it, Thomas. Of course I will go out with you. I have liked you for a long time. I just didn't know how to tell you and you didn't say anything, so I didn't want to make things weird between us. If anything had happened, I would be so lost without you. You were like my best friend, even when I wanted you to be something so much more. So my answer is yes.”Thomas hugged her. For the first time in his years at Wellingsworth High School, he felt like his life was falling into place. “We should probably go to class. I will text you in a few minutes, okay?” Kelly was worried she wouldn't make it to class on time, so she had to put her foot down, no matter how happy she was. “Ok. See you soon, Kell.”

Idk. i'm distracted rn. I can't seem 2 focus on anything except thoughts of my gf. I NEVER thought i would say that, i have a girlfriend. :)

“I'm glad u r :) but maybe u should focus? We can talk l8r if u want. <3 i miss u tho.”

“No. its ok. I wanna talk to you. I miss you too. <3 <3 <3”

Kelly was so happy they were finally together. Her teacher told her to get off her phone and read aloud so she quickly typed to Thomas, “Hey i gotta go. Hafta read aloud. Meet me after class if u can and want. Miss u <3”

Thomas was sad she had to go, but at least now he could sort of focus on what his teacher was talking about. Something about chemistry. Oh, well, he would pay attention later. Right now, he couldn't stop thinking about his new girlfriend. Kelly Martin, only the best girl in the whole wide world. “Yes. will meet you. I'm on my way rn. See you soon.” As Kelly read the text, she realized class was over and the rest of the class was gone. She dazily began to pack up. “Kelly, are you okay? Should I call the nurse?” Mr. Torveil could be so worried sometimes. “I'm okay, Mr. Torveil. I guess i'm just a little excited. I have liked a guy for a long time, and he finally asked me out today. I will try harder tomorrow.” Mr. Torveil smiled. “It’s okay, Kelly. It happens to the best of sometimes. I'm happy for you! See you tomorrow. Oh, and in case you didn't hear, tomorrow will be a more relaxed day. We are watching a movie, so bring your phone because during the movie you can choose what you do. So if you wanted, you could text that new boyfriend of yours without getting in trouble.” Kelly thanked him, and ran to meet Thomas. Teachers could be so strange sometimes. Without another thought about Mr. Torveil, Kelly looked around to see if she could spot Thomas. “Hey beautiful. How was class?” She turned to find Thomas. She smiled. He had called her beautiful. She was blushing. “It was good, thanks. And yours?” Thomas wrapped an arm around her as they started walking. “It was good, but i'm glad to see you. I missed you so much. See you after second?” She chuckled and leaned into him. “Sounds lovely. Have a good class.” Thomas grinned. “You too, beautiful. I love you.” He kissed her on the cheek. “I love you too, Thomas.” Time for advanced Pediatrics. Class today was harder than it usually was. Kelly was having a hard time getting focused. “Having fun in pediatrics? <3” She didn't know how to respond to that question. “Not really. Can't focus. Why didn't u ask me out @ lunch or just after school? I mean i won't be able to focus in any of my classes today bc i just wanna c u. And i can't wait to tell my mom when school is over.” Thomas grinned. He knew Kelly’s mom would be really happy. She had been trying to set them up since the 8th grade. She had her work cut out for her. He could just picture her beaming now.

“Wanna tell her together? I can give you a ride home if you want?”

“Are you sure you don't mind that? You don't have to.”

“I don't mind at all. I want to! :) i love you, Kelly Anne Martin :)”

“I love you more, Thomas Isaiah Dayton. You are the best. <3 so wanna meet up @ lunch?”

“Sure. i will meet you by your physics class as soon as the bell rings and we can walk to the commons together. I love you beautiful! Enjoy your morning! I love you!”

“Thanks i will. You too, handsome! Ily2!” Kelly texted her mom to tell her what was going on.

“Hey mom. Thomas just asked if he could bring me home after school today. Is that okay with you?”

“Hey hon, thanks for letting me know. Of course he can bring you home. Are you coming straight here or do you plan to stop somewhere on the way?”

“Umm… not sure. Think just home. If anything pops up I can text or call if you want me to. Any other plans for the day?”

“Don't think we have other plans. Text if plans change for sure! And maybe you can invite Thomas to stay for dinner if you want to. :)”

“Yes. i will ask him if he wants to stay. I gotta go. Still in class. I love you. See you soon. :)”

Kelly couldn't wait to tell Thomas what her mom said. She was glad her mother trusted her to do things without constant supervision or without worrying if her daughter was getting into things she shouldn't be. That wasn't even an option for Kelly. She turned off her phone and put it into her backpack so she could focus on her school work. It was 11:35. One hour until lunch. She could handle one hour of focusing and not texting. She could and she would. Her teacher asked the class what the acronym CAB stood for in CPR. Kelly was the only one with her hand raised. Her teacher lit up like a Roman Candle on the 4th of July and called on her. Beaming with pride, Kelly said “Compressions, Air way, and Breathing.” Her teacher nodded her head. “Very good, Kelly! If any other people want to pass their final exam I suggest they work as hard as Ms. Martin. That's all for today. The rest of the class is yours. You may do what you want, but please keep the volume reasonable.” Kelly was so proud of herself. She took her phone out of her bag and turned it on. She had three new texts. All three were from Thomas.

“Hey you okay?”

“Babe? Is everything okay?”

“Are you mad at me?”

“Sorry. I turned my phone off to focus. Not mad at you at all. Wuts up babe?”

Phew. i was worried about you. :( you scared me…. :( but i'm glad you are okay and WE are okay! :)”

“Me too, babe. I love you :)”

“Are you free to talk then? And I love you more, bae.”

“Maybe a few texts here and there. I have to study for finals… :( *GROAN*

“Okay babe. Well, there is only 10 minutes left anyways so i guess i will talk to you then. I love you, Beautiful.”

Kelly smiled as she read over the texts. She still couldn't believe this was happening. And to her of all the girls in school! “Ok babe. Ily2 :)”

For the next ten minutes Kelly studied for her calculus finals. She wasn't at all worried she would do poorly anymore. She was more focused on happier thoughts. Thoughts of Thomas of course. By the time the lunch bell rang, Kelly had all her stuff in her backpack and was ready to walk out of the classroom. As she was walking out, she saw Thomas on the other side of the hallway. He was looking down at his phone and didn't notice her. She walked over to him and grinned. He still hadn't seen her. “Excuse me, sir, I’m looking for my boyfriend. Can you by any chance point me in the right direction?” Thomas looked up and smiled. “Hey, beautiful. Sorry, just give me a few seconds to reply to Steven. I told him I was finally your boyfriend, and now he's pestering me with all these annoying questions.” He looked back down at his phone as they began walking down the hall for lunch. A few seconds later, he clicked his phone off, put it in his back pocket, and wrapped his arm around Kelly. Kelly felt her phone vibrate and quickly pulled it out to see who it was. “Hey, Kell, just wanted to make sure the plans were still the same to come right home. Is that right?”

Kelly put her phone back in her pocket and turned to Thomas. “Hey my mom wants to know if we are stopping anywhere before we go to the house. What should I tell her?”

Thomas looked around the cafeteria and waved to Steven, who was walking towards them. “Ummmm… If you want to, you can ask her if it's okay with her if we stop for a soda. If it's okay, we can stop for a soda and then drive over there.” Kelly nodded, and took her phone out again. “Okay I will message her and see what she thinks.”

“Hey mom. We thought maybe we could stop for a soda and be home in a bit. Is that okay with you?”

Kelly looked around the cafeteria for her other friends, and couldn't spot them, so she occupied herself with staring into her boyfriend’s most perfect eyes. “Hey hon. Thanks for asking. Yes, that's fine. See you two in a bit.”

“So I just checked with my mom and she said a soda would be fine after school. Is that still what you want to do, babe?”

“Yes, that's the plan. Let’s eat, shall we?”

Okay. yeah, sounds good to me.”

And that's what they did. They shared their first meal together as an official couple. After the lunch bell rang, Thomas walked Kelly to her class, kissed her on the cheek, and told her he would meet her there after class to walk her to the last class of the day. Kelly went into class and bumped into one of her friends, Sarah.

“Hey I saw you walking with Thomas holding hands. Did you guys finally make it official?”

“Yes, we did. He asked me this morning and I can't concentrate. I wish he would have asked me later. Want to partner today?”

“Uh, yeah. I will partner with you if you give me all the details of you and Thomas.”

“Not much to tell, but I will try my very best. Here let’s go and get the book and turn to the right page. It looks like today we are going to be digging into parallel lines and types of triangles. Oh, goody, we even get to test our knowledge by having a test this Friday.”
