Sanctioned desires .. mini/vent?

[text format]

Empty, to a degree. Not fully overtaken by the sense of dread but just enough where hope feels out of my destiny. What is a house without being a home, what am I without being whole.

There is a facade of expressions to cycle on a day, yet I can't tell the difference anymore of what is real and fake. Lying to yourself ruins the complexion of your colors, and I'm swimming in pools of greys. Who have I betrayed?

Was it me? Because now it feels as if I'm running farther away from my truth. Who am I? How good enough have I been? Can you choose to forgive me?

And there's a gap oozing out stars from the inside of my heart. How many times have I begged to be apart of the sky? Somehow it all feels meaningless, and there's no one to turn to. There's no arms to run into, never has there been. Everyday I walk through the traces of what it could've been, as if analyzing anything would change a single thing. A craving to burn and crumble, to stop holding on,I want an exit free of charge.

I want to do so much, yet nothing at all. I want to talk until my tongue dries out but there's a faltering of words whenever there's a wishing to be heard. I've gotten so far, is it far enough? I haven't escaped anyone, because I am the angry man inside the house. Maybe she was right to say, I hate myself and I'll never be free. That if I'd ever disappear she'd know I'd be found dead. Surely there's a spot open on the news for one last act of bravery.

I want to love with no ache behind every trace left in my wake. I want to trust with my whole heart but there is a hinge on the door that doesn't seem to work anymore. And there is so much more, but who am I writing for?

Can I run without fear holding me back that my own body will betray me at the final step. I don't own anything, I don't own my own thoughts. And I wish I did, I wish I had a life without all of this. Everytime we talk about my mother, there is only sighing at her negligence and abuse, there is never a laugh or giggle about how great of a life I've lived. There is only anguish in my past and that destroys me everyday,

how do you build a home

How do you rebuild yourself from nothing

How do I

How do you

How?

How do I continue surviving when my own will to live is running thin and there's a thorn lodged deep within.

Hi!! this poem is just so vulnerable and raw. there's so much this poem touches on. it gives so much, and there's no conclusion or no explanation- but in the end it all ties to "home" & fulfillment. these feelings and thoughts are able to just exist, which is very human and just so truthful.

And there's a gap oozing out stars from the inside of my heart. How many times have I begged to be apart of the sky?

"oozing stars" gives the image that the stars are pouring from a sky in a heart, however this heart and "the sky" are treated as separated things which interested me very much. despite the sky being an indefinite, flat thing, it is portrayed as something full & somewhere you belong here, while your heart is this container that is isn't full, despite all of you that's in it (and spills out). its like theres so much that spills out- a hint of potential, perhaps that being creativity or some other traits—and yet you still don't remain to be "great" (fulfilled). there's also something to be said about how the sky is distant, far away from you while your heart is close; its as if the sky embodies this larger idea of fulfillment you feel so distant to you. im just rambling at this point. but these lines (for me) inducing imagery that both contrast and parallel each other is reminiscent of how this piece deals with these complicated feelings

what is real and fake. Lying to yourself ruins the complexion of your colors, and I'm swimming in pools of greys.

An expression of not knowing the definite lines between what's real and fake pairs up insanely well with "swimming pools of greys"—since just as what is "real" and "fake" for this writer (these blurred, unidentifiable concepts), grey is a color that is a vague color, mixed with colors while not having a clear definition itself, without any sharp distinctions. While remaining to be writing piece that constantly tackles on various of topics in a way that goes on and on, basically pouring so many thoughts to create something unfiltered, your creativity and care of your prose still is true to you and all your works.

And there is so much more, but who am I writing for?

to want to just simply exist but to also want to imbue in many things are, and to know yourself enough to offer deep reflection through these words but not enough to feel like a whole person is all just so simply expressed here with a familiar question that many writers pose to themselves. "who am i writing for?" isn't just about the question of what you provide to others, but especially if you can provide for yourself when you don't exactly know yourself.

honestly, no words can express how honest this is. its so revealing of yourself, and to just share yourself on here is amazing and perhaps admirable. to confront yourself like this can be so difficult, especially revealing that reflection. there are so many questions and thoughts and details that were expressed here, that mirror my own and many others. this is just simply great. please, keep writing!! your pieces are amazing. but more importantly, i hope you are well. i wish you good, better things for you

:') Im so sorry for such a late response to your review, thank you so much for your always kind thoughts and such a mind that captures the essence of each writers hopes and wishes <3

Goodmorning oirichu! Gen here writing a review of your work Sanctioned desires in honor of Review Month!

This poem really feels like a poetic reflection, full of feelings and things that the narrator is pondering, yet cannot come to a conclusion.

What is a house without being a home, what am I without being whole.
I really love the emotional effect this line has by being ended with a period rather than a question. This is a theme throughout this poem, especially in the ending "how" questions, where some are stated as questions, yet some are stated as statements to show the rhetorical nature of the question. This creates a back and forth between the narrator wanting to know the answer and not bothering to actually ask the question.

You use prose and line breaks in a really well-done way that works with those thoughts and feelings that seem to overflow out of the narrator, while not being constrained to the typical stanza approach. Each verse stands strong on their own, and the ending section of the how statements beginning to take a more "standard" line approach, before ending with the final line, which starts to give room to the abruptness of those lines and questions before circling back to the rhetorical tone of the entire poem. It's refreshing to see different approaches to poetry!

I love the creativity and authenticity behind your work! It truly felt like I was reading the picking apart of someone's brain. Can't wait to read more from you! Keep writing and God bless.

Hello!! Thank you so much for your review Genevieve! I apologize for getting back so late, :( thank you for always gracing me with your effortless words and beautiful interpretations
