Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a guild of writers. It was not an ordinary sort of guild for they did not meet in person--at least, not all of them, and not all at once. Instead, they left messages at a tall pole, called a post, and collaborate to help solve each other's problems.
Current messages used to be tacked onto a nearby board, and if funds were low, the pole would be used instead. (Just as well, for the poles lasted longer. Some will still exist, even when your great, great grandchildren are dead. Sad, but true; our legacies once again outlive us. Alas.)
I, myself, have had the great fortune to stumble upon one of these poles. At the bottom was a box, and--ah! I forgot to explain. Once the most pressing matters had been solved, the guild master would take them down to make room for new ones. Such preservation I have never seen, for the documents have hardly yellowed-! I must discover how this was done, for such practices have been lost to us.
One more thing--these are not real names, lest you think them ancient relics of a bygone era. These are codes, made to conceal their identities.
Your loving Uncle,
Yarno Vellgood.

I had a story, but I lost it.
I'm sure you are familiar with this scenario. As fellow writers, I sincerely hope that you will join me in looking for this wayward tale, which seemed to me to be incredibly important at the time. Alas, I cannot describe it for you; when the story fled, it took my memory with it.
With deepest apologies for this inconvience, I bid you good writing.

.....aaah. Well.
Funny things, stories. They only stick around if they absolutely want to. Most of the time, they skitter away half-formed.
Carry always a paper and pencil, so as to catch them before they do. That's the only recommendation I can give.

MUST y'all be so formal?! Writing's about EXPRESSION! Don't be so rigid, DEFY the GRAMMAR NORMS!!!
--Playwright
Playwright sounds like an old comic book. Ignore him, he doesn't deserve our attention.
As for me, I recommend small writing booklet and a flat, attachable pen; this way one may carry inconspiculously on his person all the tools necessary for succesful capture of flighty stories. *here, a picture is attached.* Both may be found at the Noble Book's emporium, located on Westward street, as I'm sure you know. If you should ever have need of another outside of your area, simply let me know afore you shall set off, and I will endeavour to locate every possible salesman upon your route. It should prove to be an easy task, as my family ensures that everyone in the business is up to date on all the latest product locations.
--Studious
Playwright, Studious, we've gone over this before. If you have nothing useful to add to the discussion, please do not waste materials. They are precious in this time of war.
Scribbler, Dasher~of~thought and Studios both have good points. Although Studious should leave out the blatant advertising, the best way to catch a story is with a pen. I'm afraid no one knows how to reclaim one, once it's released to the wild.

Author's note: I'm most concerned about whether the different "characters" sound like different people. Please advise.

All right, I like the idea. Sort of; it's not my normal cup of tea. But a few of the people sorta sound distinct, yet forced. My advice? Take ready-made characters you already have and force them to RP mentally in this kind of a situation, then write down what they say. Or, do the more logical thing...stalk a bunch of forums/groups and scout the different writing styles of other people. Then *gasp* go scour through the posts of a profile you like. It's called research, not snooping
Hope this helps!
Haha nice! I'll do that. I should've read different writing styles before trying to switch to the next voice, but I was trying to get the idea down. I'll work on it!
This is great! I love how you personify the stories and add this very contemporary flare with the old english feel and words. It's a very fun idea and it kept me smiling until the end. I would love for you to write more! (And who here hasn't experienced a story getting away from them?
) I think you actually did very well making them seem like different people. Well done and I look forward to reading more!
Thank you very much! I'll do my best.
