My cage

My cage is gone, I’m finally free
To once and forever just be me.
I laugh not cry under my mast,
and the people say he’s lost it at last
but I have found it, I tell you the truth
just calling me insane isn’t quite proof
so I pull the trigger while the hammer is down.
Do I make a sound if no ones around?

Hey there, Evan, I shall be your reviewer for today. You have no reviews? I'm here to change that! :D
Okay, comments are at the end, just now, we'll get on to your poem. xD

My cage is gone, I’m finally free

To once and forever just be me.
I like the rhyme in the first two lines, it's not too forced and it flows well.

I laugh not cry under my mast,

and the people say he’s lost it at last
I'm not so sure about here, I don't like the rhyme as much as I did previously.

but I have found it, I tell you the truth

just calling me insane isn’t quite proof

so I pull the trigger while the hammer is down.

Do I make a sound if no ones around?
One's has an apostrophe as you mean:
No one is around.

Okay; the first problem is the capitalization. At the start of some sentences you have a capital, but not at the start of them all. Keep it consistent. I liked the rhyming system, it was fun and didn't seem too forced or anything. 'Twas good ;)

I think some imagery would benefit this poem. Maybe describe the sights, the sounds and the smells, the surroundings. The textures etc.

At the end, I presume he killed himself? At least it seemed to suggest that with the pull the trigger part, here I'd include some emotions so that we can empathise with your character. Otherwise the poem's kinda pointless, don't you think? If we don't empathise, we won't feel for your character and so the poem will not have a feeling attached. The topic is a sad one, so use this to your advantage to make us sad and upset.

So, expand your poem, make it longer and include imagery, use figurative language, similes, metaphors, etc. Emotive language and phrases to make us feel the emotion you want us to feel. This poem has good potential, and I like the rhyming system. So, on that well done, a tad more work and it should be great.

You have great potential. ;)
