The New Generation--Chapter 19: Let Go

In The New Generation

Leia felt hate burning inside her as Erebos smiled, blindingly white teeth against jet-black skin. She felt fear too, but she just fed it to her hate and let it grow even stronger.

"Erebos!" she shouted, letting the words come. "Impersonation of darkness, bringer of fear. Release Silena!"

All he did was laugh, which kind of drained the satisfaction of knowing exactly what to say.

"Leia's right," Bianca said, coming to stand beside her. She was surprised. She knew Bianca as a quiet person, not as someone who would speak directly to a fear-inducing monster.

Then it hit Leia. Bianca probably wasn't as affected as Silena or her. Her grandfather was Hades, after all, and Hades had his Helm of Darkness, which sent waves of fear throughout anyone who saw it. The god of the Underworld and Erebos might as well have been brothers.

Silena's held captive by Erebos! she scolded herself. Stay focused!

She looked up at her enemy and saw her friend, not even struggling. Her face was pallid, her countenance frightened. Leia felt a stab of anger. Silena was so frightened by Erebos that she could hardly move.

Bianca, who had her gaze fixed on Silena as well, suddenly lurched and lunged at Erebos. He was scarcely surprised, and darkness emanated from him in octopus tendrils. Bianca dodged the tentacles, which curved like dozens of black arms. She pulled out her sword and struck at Erebos, but he easily moved to the side.

This motivated Leia to do something. She snuck around the to the side of him, keeping her eyes on the quickly-tiring Bianca. Then, when the time was right, she leaped onto Erebos and slashed with her sword. Judging by his howl, her aim was good.

He turned and growled, "Your father might be a powerful demigod, but you are not!" He lashed out with his inky tendrils, and Leia was quickly immobilized by fear like her friend was.

She watched as Bianca ran in the other direction. Leia tried to tell her to come back, but her voice would not work. The sounds that she could make shook like a strummed guitar string. It was pathetic, and Erebos' laugh told her that he thought so too.

He slowly advanced on the granddaughter of Hades, taking his time as if he knew he would win. Bianca just hurried from Festus to Sammy, whispering a few words in their ears. Like magic, they could suddenly move. Erebos faltered, his smile wavering, but he continued to take leisurely steps.

Festus, his eyes wide, knew what he had to do. He pulled out his hammer and threw it. Leia closed her eyes and trusted his throwing abilities, hoping that he wouldn't accidentally hit her in the face with a flaming hammer.

She was pretty sure she didn't get health insurance down here.

Thankfully, his weapon sunk deep into Erebos' body and stayed there as he hissed in pain. His grip loosened on the two girls as he tried to pull the hammer out, and they immediately ducked away. His scream shook the entire ground.

Sammy, meanwhile, took out his weapon as well and moved forward, chary of his dangerous opponent. When he was close enough to Erebos, who was struggling to control his magical dark vines and remove the hammer at the same time, he brought his blade down and jumped back as Erebos thundered.

The attack continued, the deity slowly weakening from the onslaught and the hammer, which stuck in his chest as if adhered with superglue. Eventually, when he oozed black liquid from his multiple wounds, he dissolved into a puddle of shadows--not dead, to be certain, but considerably weakened. Festus' hammer lay in the small pond.

He quickly ran to retrieve it, while Leia rushed over to Bianca and hugged her. Without her, they would've most likely died. "How did you know what to do after Erebos got me?" she asked.

Bianca answered, "I heard Hades in my head telling me to go say something to Sammy and Festus."

Leia sheathed her sword and looked at Silena, who looked unnerved but was recovering. "What did you say to them?"

Her friend smiled. "Darkness, let go."

Heya, Artemis! Casanova here to do a review!

Things I like-

The plot was strong. I'm sorry for jumping in 19 chapters in, but I felt like this deserved to be out of the green room. Your plot was really moving along, and I reallly like the ending although it's a piece of dialogue.
The characters seem to fit well, so I give you props for that.
The next thing is the dialogue, I didn't particularly like it for some reason. You have the emotion there, but it just seems as if you're not trying to put emphasis on what the characters are saying.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. Ping me if you want a longer/better review!

Keep on doing what you're doing and keep on keeping on.

Sincerely, Casanova

Hey there, Artemis28! I've not got any errors to point out with this chapter (just one nitpick), it was an easy read and as usual, your plot is well thought-out and interesting.

He lashed out with his inky tendrils, and Leia was quickly as immobilized by fear as her friend was.
This is the nitpick. When I read it, 'quickly as immobilized' doesn't flow well. Once I read the whole sentence, it makes sense, but my flow is destroyed originally because the 'as' seems out of place. It just needs to be reworded, I think.

Bianca answered, "I heard Hades in my head telling me to go say something to Sammy and Festus."
This was definitely Bianca's chapter; she was the main star in it and her character was developed greatly. I love how Leia considers her heritage, and how she's probably less affected than everyone else as she's Hades' granddaughter.

Her friend smiled. "Darkness, let go."
And this proves that she is not only less affected, but also powerful. I wonder if this new found ability will be used later on. I hope so!
