*This poem is underneath my folder titled “My poetry”. I actually wrote this poem in August, when I was getting back home from my trip to Disney World, Orlando. I thought about when I rode the ride “It’s a small world” in Magic Kingdom many, MANY years after I had ridden it before. I thought that I was going to like it just like I did when I was younger, but when I saw how poor the animatronics were, how the night sky didn’t even look like a night sky anymore, and how the song didn’t even seem to be realistic anymore. I teared up a bit (didn’t cry too much because there were kids and I didn’t want to upset them ofc) and so, I made this poem. The words in quotation are taken from the song that plays in the ride, called “It’s a small world”. I hope that you like it.*
“It’s a world of laughter
It’s a world of tears
It’s a world of hope
It’s a world of fears”
How did we get here?
Children dolls singing together
Their eyes blink and their smiles never waver
The paint is peeling and I can see the ceiling lights
Some of the animatronics don’t even look right
But they don’t cry, for they have one another
It’s a big celebration of each other’s culture
So why is it that we’re all so divided?
It doesn’t feel like we’re all united
I thought the wars and the hate and the malice were over
That they were long dead in history, never to be seen again
But hey, wasn’t that silly of me?
To think that now everyone would be free
I take their song and their message of hope
Weaving it to my heart, hoping it can stay afloat
Sometimes I just don’t know
It feels like we’re falling apart
It’s hard to know where to start
I guess the world will never truly be together
I only hope that we can make things better
I know it’s going to end but I don’t want it to end in such a despairing way
Come on, we’re better than how the movies show us
Aren’t we?
“It’s a world of laughter
It’s a world of tears
It’s a world of (hope)?
It’s a world of fears
There’s so much that we share
That it’s time we’re aware
It’s a small world after all”

With everything going on in this world today, especially with the political climate, I really felt this poem.
It’s a big celebration of each other’s culture
So why is it that we’re all so divided?
It doesn’t feel like we’re all united
I thought the wars and the hate and the malice were over
That they were long dead in history, never to be seen again
But hey, wasn’t that silly of me?
Racism is still prominent in this world. Even though we may not see it being actively displayed right now, its happening all over the world. There are being sent back to their hometown, when all they want is to try to look for a new life.
Sometimes I just don’t know
It feels like we’re falling apart
It’s hard to know where to start
The world is falling apart as we speak now. No matter how politicians may try to piece the world back together, the damage is already done.
The question, “Why is it that we’re all so divided?” hit me hard. It’s a question I’ve asked myself many times. We live in a world that’s more connected than ever, yet somehow, we seem more fractured.
Lines like “I thought the wars and the hate, and the malice were over” reflect a painful hope—that maybe we had moved past the worst of our history. But the poem reminds us that progress isn’t permanent, and justice isn’t guaranteed. Overall, this was a beautiful poem. This poem is a reminder that art can be a powerful mirror to society. It doesn’t just reflect our pain—it gives us language for it. I’m grateful for pieces like this that challenge us to think, feel, and hopefully, act.

this is really beautiful. the lyrics with the words, contrasting and mixing to make this amazing poem. I read it over a couple times and genuinely really like it, the way it's written, the tone I can hear it being read in - all done so well. the expression of discrimination versus love is done amazingly too. the chipping paint mention makes it feel old and abandoned, reminded us of the regrets and mistakes we've all made. love this
I%u2019m so glad you enjoyed! :>
I LOVE THIS !!!
Damn. This broke me and mended me at the same time. This poem was phenomenal, and PLEASE give us more. Also, how was Disney?
Disney was pretty cool. They had all the Halloween stuff out so I liked that. ^v^
