You say you know me,
But we both wonder, “Do you?”
Dig a bit deeper;
Find out if it’s true.
Isn’t this what you
First thought of me?
This girl is a lie,
Why can’t you see?
I am just a kid
Who wants to have fun.
I don’t care ‘bout my choices
In the long run.
My eyes glitter like
A starry night;
Full of jokes,
Devoid of plight.
My laugh is loud,
Clear and joyful,
Nothing at all
Could be hurtful.
My smile is full,
Toothy and wide;
Everything is fine,
Nothing to hide.
My voice is constant,
I speak happy jabber,
Air headed and light,
Just a girl's chatter.
There is more to me
And possibly you,
Than the naked eye
Will ever view.
Behind everything I do,
Behind everything you see,
You wouldn’t recognize
This other me.
I am hardened and aged,
But not even old,
Yet my heart and soul
Is gray and cold.
My eyes glitter like
A pool of tears,
A sea of salt water that’s
Collected over years.
My laugh is hollow,
No trace of joy left.
Like it has been stolen,
From an unknown theft.
My smile doesn't
Quite reach my eyes,
The muscles only know
How to create sighs.
My voice is blank,
Devoid of emotion;
It all sounds like I’m speaking
Across an ocean.
And most probably
All you see,
Is a joyful, grinning,
Happy me.
But if you are smart,
And wish for more to know,
Maybe then, just maybe,
My other side will show.
Do you truly know me?
Your poems seem to describe my life, so I really like you as a writer. I am definitely a fan.
"You say you know me,
But we both wonder, “Do you?”
Dig a bit deeper;
Find out if it’s true."
" I am just a kid
Who wants to have fun.
I don’t care ‘bout my choices
In the long run."
I like this part of the poem, because as a young person, all you want is to be infinite, you don't really look at the consequences of your actions and that's why i like this stanza.
Aww, thank you. ^-^
i really like this poem. i like how it truly captures someones inner feeling and how its true that what you think isn't always right. and that everyone perceives things differently. i think someone could really connect to this work because i think we all have our own inner battles and a side that's different than what we show to the world. wonderful job!
Thank you, lilyeloyan!!
I love how this poem have a little bit of " this is my life i will live how i choose" . i feel this way from the i don't care bout my choices
Wow I really enjoyed your poem. You're a great write and this poem demonstrates all the potential you have. I love that your poem had so much raw emotion that creates this powerful imagery throughout the poem. I think for the most part your poem had great flow, but there were some occasions where it didn't flow as well. An example of this is in the very beginning,
"You say you know me/But we both wonder, “Do you?”/Dig a bit deeper And find out if it’s true.", just eliminate the "and". Other then that great job! I look forward of reading more of your stuff
Okay, thank you so much Elizabeth!
Your reviews mean so much to me, you guys!! :3
I think this poem is very well written! I like how you say, "You say you know me,
But we both wonder, “Do you?” because many times people say that they know us but they have no idea who we really are.
I really like how you start by describing the side that everyone can see of you and how then you describe who you really are. I feel this way and I like the fact that I can relate to the subject.
It is interesting how only a few human beings really know us and can see through the superficial self that we portray.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your poems
Thank you, Lavidadella!! ^_^
Hey! Marrissa here leaving a quick review. Must I say this is a very interesting poem! I love how the mood changes halfway through also representing the "other side". I love the emotion and more specifically I love how you described the "other side". It's different and definitely the opposite of the happier side. I enjoyed this poem and I look forward to reading more from you. Once again, awesome poem!
Thanks Marrissa!

HEY! First of all, I like the emotion behind this poem. It seemed very realistic to me. Personally, I'm into more abstract poems so when I found myself liking this poem at the end, I was a little shocked :p (P.S. that was a compliment). The thing that I liked most about this is that it is relatable, especially for teenagers. We all reach points in our lives where we feel one thing on the inside but show another emotion on the outside. I also liked the simplicity behind it. This is one of the aspects that made it appear so realistic to me. The only thing that you might want to look back on is the flow of the words. On some occasions, you ended a line with something like 'and'. I don't recommend that in a poem like this because it interrupts the flow. Particularly in the beginning, when you're first introducing your reader to the moral and message of the story, it disrupts your though process a little. Other than that, I really enjoyed it:). Keep writing and I hope to read more of your work soon
!
Okay, thank you sbear1231!!
I'll go fix that 'and' problem right now.
Thanks again for reviewing!!
