#8: WHAT EUGENE DID LAST SUMMER (continued)
I burst into the building, storming through the kitchens into one of the seating areas. I moved passed the podium with the musical equipment set up on it, past the my friends, past the chairs stacked in the corner of the room. Ignoring Tahlia, who called out my name, I pushed open the STAFF ONLY door, entering the empty office.
I closed the door behind me, and took a couple of steps into the room before the sob escaped my lips. I slid down against the front of the desk, burying my head into my hands. I felt a tear run down my cheek, and I wiped it away angrily.
He’d lied to me. He was my best friend, the person I trusted most in the entire world, and he’d created this whole deception, fooling me, then lying again to cover his tracks. Did he really have such little faith in me that he’d think that something like vandalism would be enough to turn me against him?
Damn him.
Damn Eugene . Damn the tears that were coursing down my face and the utter rage and confusion that he was making me feel. Damn the fact that I hadn’t noticed before now, and the creeping guilt that his confession was making me feel.
Damn him.
How did I manage to miss it? I’d known Eugene for twelve years, I thought I knew him inside out. He was my best friend – he’d always told me everything. He was the one person who I’d figure would always be a constant in my life, but now, I didn’t know what I would do next time I saw him.
I couldn’t lose him.
What am I thinking? I thought desperately. He’d lied to me, to everyone, and he’d manipulated Freddie. Which, I guessed, helped to explain the way Freddie had acted on Friday night.
My thoughts kept going in circles – whizzing from hating Eugene, to missing him, to being angry at both him and myself, to misery. I leant my head against the cool wood of the desk, hating all the noise going on in my brain.
I didn’t want to be alone with my thoughts anymore, but I couldn’t stand the idea of going outside. I knew that Tahlia would be concerned, Audrey would ask questions, Theo would be heartbroken and Freddie would be… Freddie. Seeing them react to what was going on would only make me feel worse.
I’d mostly gotten control over the crying when I heard voices right outside the door. One was Tahlia’s and the other sounded male. It wasn’t deep enough to be Eugene’s, but it didn’t sound like Freddie or Theo, either. Whoever it was, it was clear that he was arguing with Tahlia. I couldn’t make out the words, but it sounded like he was winning, and the next thing I knew the door had opened and Hayden stood in the entrance to the office.
“Hi,” he said softly. “Your friend said you were in here – not Tahlia, the other one. Tahlia didn’t think you’d want to see anyone. She said you were upset, but I thought… I can go if you like.”
“Nah, it’s okay,” I replied, wiping the last tears from my eyes. I grimaced when my fingers came back black. “God, my mascara.”
I rubbed at my eyes, hoping that I didn’t end up looking like a panda. Hayden continued to stand in the doorway, uncertain, so I patted the ground next to me. I hoped his presence would be enough of a distraction from my thoughts.
Hayden closed the door behind him as he came over to sit beside me. The pressure of his shoulder against mine, the simple contact of it, was enough to make my heart race.
“You look fine,” he said gently. I gave him a small smile, grateful for his lie, because I knew full well how red and blotchy I must have been. “Do you want to talk, or just sit? I don’t mind, it’s up to you. You might want to think, or process whatever’s happened. You don’t have to tell me, if you don’t want. But I’m here, if you do.”
“Hayden?” I asked.
“Yes?”
“You’re rambling.”
He laughed softly. I hadn’t heard him laugh before, and my breath caught at the sound. I wanted keep hearing that.
“I don’t want to think about it.” Even with Hayden here, talking to me, Eugene’s words were still in the back of my mind, buzzing incessantly. “I want to go back to before this all happened. Thinking about it about it hurts and speaking about it would make it too real.”
“Okay,” he said. Despite his bumbling, there was still the intensity in his gaze that I’d noticed when we’d first spoken. Having it directed towards me wasn’t as intimidating as it should’ve been – I could see the concern in the narrowing of his eyes. Not that I was eager to have that concern directed towards me. As foolish as it was, I didn’t want him seeing me like this, so soon after we’d first met. I’d rather be the spellbound girl at a party, or have him witness me in my element in the record shop, or a thousand other possible situations. Not shattered. Not like this.
I rested my head against the back of the desk, staring ahead at the shelves in front of us. I allowed myself a wallowing sigh, then looked back to Hayden. At the same moment, he turned his head so he was looking straight at me, and his face was only a few centimetres from mine.
I wanted just a moment of not thinking. A moment where I wasn’t feeling hopeless and angry. Before I could properly consider what I was doing, I leant forward, closing the gap between us.
Then I kissed him.
He moved back slightly, at first, taken by surprise. He then shifted, and leant forwards the tiniest bit to kiss me back. As soon as I sensed that subtle movement, my heart began to beat faster and more furiously. But there was no trace of the nervousness I had felt the last time we’d spoke – instead a thrill rushed through me, the same kind of breathtaking exhilaration that I felt listening to a favourite song.
In that moment, it felt like it was just him and me, and the rest of the world had faded to a distant murmur.
He pulled back. “Tell me something,” he said, a hint of breathlessness to his voice. “Did you kiss me because you like me or is it because you’re upset?”
I bit my lip. “Partly because I’m upset,” I admitted. “But this is because I like you.”
I leant forward and kissed him again. This time, he kissed me back without hesitation, reaching one hand up to my cheek. I moved so that my back was no longer to the desk, so that I was facing him, and put my hands on his shoulders, pulling him closer to me.
There was no thought to this, no deliberation. Just sensation. It was the light brush of his fringe against my forehead, the feeling of his fingers on my face, the touch of his lips. It was the way his hand on my waist sent a shiver down my spine. It was me and him and our racing hearts, and time became a foreign concept until a noise outside startled us apart.
Hayden sat back, and stared at me for a long moment, looking as though he were surprised by my existence. Under the office’s fluorescent lights, his eyes were a vivid shade of orange, the hazel made brighter in the harsh, artificial light.
I shut my own eyes and sat back against the desk next to him. “So…” I said, opening my eyes and raising an eyebrow.
“So…” Hayden replied, his dreamy expression replaced by a small smile. I couldn’t help but grin back. I felt giddy and a little breathless. “We’re going to have to go out there, aren’t we?”
I laughed, then froze. “Shit. Audrey’ll never let me hear the end of it. Neither will Freddie. I’m game to make a break out the window, if you are.”
“You’re feeling better?” he asked. His tone was light, but the question was sobering. Because it wouldn’t just be teasing I’d have to face out there, it would be Eugene too.
“I’m good.” At least, I was convincing myself that I was. The anger I’d felt before was bubbling up again, but it wasn’t feeling quite so overwhelming. “I’m still angry, and all that, but I’ll live.”
Now that I wasn’t completely reeling from the shock of Eugene’s confession, I almost wanted to speak to him again. Not right now – but soon. When everything had died down a little, hopefully I’d be able to talk with him, work out what went wrong.
Even though he’d lied to me, the fact was that I cared about Eugene far more than I could ever hate him.
I stood up slowly. Straightening up, I offered a hand to Hayden. He said, “Just go out there, as if nothing’s happened.”
“No.” I shook my head, surprised at how quickly I disagreed. “I mean, thanks, but if I do that it almost feels as though I’ll be saying that it doesn’t matter, like it’s all okay, when it’s not.”
“Right, then,” he said. “But if you’d like me to, I’ll be your sidekick in your righteous anger, or whatever. I’ll be right behind you when you walk through that door.”
“Hayden,” I began, “I haven’t even told you what this is about. Why I’m upset. But you’re on my side. Why?”
He studied me pensively, his eyes level with mine. “Because of the look on your face when you were listening to my old band play. Because you hang out with musos even though, apparently, you can’t play an instrument yourself. I’m fascinated by you, Liv.”
I scoffed quietly. Then, feeling rude, I said, “I’m not all that interesting.”
“Maybe not,” he said, a small smile tugging on his lips. “But I’m willing to find out, if you’d let me.”
“I’d be cool with that.” My voice was barely louder than a whisper. I liked hearing him say that, even if it felt weird that those words were being directed at me. I like Hayden Beaufort, I thought. I’d sort of admitted it to Tahlia and Audrey, but now I let myself acknowledge it.
“So shall we go?” he asked, gesturing towards the door.
“Let’s go,” I answered, and we walked through the door, to where Pugnacious Dogma was about to play their first song for the last time.

And for the finale!!
I love the repetition of “damn/damn him” and how she’s expressing her feelings in the beginning!
Why does this bother her so much? This goes back to a comment I believe I made in a previous chapter – they’ve talked about how they don’t like Freddie and how they find him annoying. So why does she care about him so much? I wasn’t aware she was that close to him or that they were friends.
This seems like a strong word for what she’s going through right now. I get the missing him and the anger, but I don’t understand the misery. I feel like misery happens when you’ve been sad/depressed/lonely/angry/etc for a while and she’s really only been feeling this way for a couple of minutes.
She doesn’t recognize his voice yet? I get that this creates some mystery about who it could be, but I was pretty confident it would be Hayden
This seemed like a little much for me. I think the first two sentences are okay and then the others feel a little unrealistic for a teenage boy.
This paragraph is a little repetitive and I don’t think you need this part.
Loooooove that this has it’s own line. Perfect touch.
D’awwwww
What does this mean?
This was a little too mushy and corny for my taste :p I can’t picture this in a real setting.
Overall (unorganized) thoughts written after I read this through the first time:
Based on the title, this was not what I expected, although I did enjoy it. (I think I was expecting something way more cheesy and cliché, so the fact that it wasn’t what I was expecting is a good thing :p) The music element was a nice added component (because I’m a sucker for that sort of thing). I’m glad that you put the kiss at the very end because even though we knew it was coming the “how” and “when” kept things interesting. I have mixed feelings about the title. It’s creative and cute and I like that it fits in with the eight parts, but were there really eight reasons why she kissed him? In the end, she only named two (that she was sad about Eugene and she likes Hayden). Obviously there are a lot of events that lead up to those reasons (maybe eight?) but she only lists two.
I appreciated the subplots and how the different characters wove together. I think it can be hard to achieve good character development in shorter stories like this, but I thought they were each fairly well-defined. I would appreciate a little more personality for each of them, I think. If I were to boil each of them down into two or three adjectives, I’m not sure if I could do it. I would like Hayden to be more than just a hot drummer. I don’t quite understand why they like each other beyond the superficial level. I also had a bit of a hard time following Eugene’s betrayal. I’m a little confused about how he went from vandalism to quitting the band to making the other guy quitting the band to the MC freaking out. I think I get it (and it might make more sense to me when I read it back through a little slower) but I think I want those dots connected a little more. I didn’t really understand her reaction to it either. It felt a little extreme to me. I also feel like there are some loose ends left here.
In terms of the plot, we have the main story line of how Liv came to meet and then kiss Hayden, a subplot about what’s going to happen to the band, a subplot about Freddie, and a subplot about Eugene. I thought line that felt the most complete was the one about what was going to happen to the band – there was the problem, uncertainty, a possible solution, and the a resolution. Freddie’s was a pretty minor subplot (were you intending for it to be a subplot?) and I think it’s fine as is. The other two I had a couple of minor issues with. With the main story line about Liv and Hayden – there was no real conflict. They met, then they ran into each other again and got to know one another, then he helped her when she was sad, then they kissed. There was no drama there. It happened too smoothly, in my opinion. And then with the Eugene line, I liked how that was developing until the very end. I know because it’s a short story you can’t always wrap every little thing up, but I really would have liked to know how that situation resolved. Will Liv and Eugene still be able to be friends? Will she forgive him?
Technically speaking I think your writing is pretty good. I can tell we're not from the same region of the world, but that's fine
Let me know if you have any questions or if anything I said was confusing! And if you would like thoughts or feedback over anything I didn't mention, please let me know and I'll do my best to help!
Thank you again! Super helpful since I've just started rewriting, will definitely take into consideration. Much appreciated!
You're very welcome! Glad you found them helpful!
Hi there!
I've really enjoyed this story.
I'm on my iPod so please excuse any stupid things autocorrect thinks should be said :3
Ahhh, it's the last part! I'm gonna be so sad when this is over
The realistic side of my brain is telling me how strange it is that Hayden hasn't laughed in the entire time that he and Liv have talked. I feel like people laugh a lot more than that. The artistic side of my brain is screaming that this perfect and wonderful and all of the above. Just the fact that she's focusing on this one part of him and enjoying it so much is so powerful. So, in order to make it a bit more realistic maybe just have her say she always loves when she hears him laugh or something along those lines. The effect would be there and it would also be a bit more believable.
I feel like there should be a dialogue tag in here somewhere. It becomes obvious by the end that it's Liv speaking, but you just sort of jump right into dialogue after talking about Hayden's laugh.
I really like the kissing scene. To be honest, I haven't read very many kissing scenes and only watched them in movies and on TV and all that stuff, but this seems to be a perfect one to me. You didn't just focus on the kiss, you focused on everything else as well. Liv noticed all of the little things that made the kiss memorable. It's always nice to see writers exploring the different senses rather than just stating what's happening. It also seemed to fit how Liv is feeling right now. She's still distraught over Eugene and just wants to forget about it. That's what the kiss was all about. It's a nice, simple kiss that doesn't go overboard. Liv wants nothing more than to just feel at peace and that's exactly what being with Hayden has given her.
Well, that was one heck of a ride. I really, truly enjoyed reading this story. It's short, something I'm not used to as I've been reading so many novels, but gave us the same storyline that we'd see in a much longer piece. The characters are great and very much relatable. I have to say that I like Eugene the most and feel so sorry for him. I don't know what it is about him, but he just seems like a cool dude. And once he admitted to Liv that he's the reason that Pugnacious Dogma fell apart I felt so bad for him. He'd been struggling with the secret for a long time and it even bothered him to tell his best friend about it. Hayden wasn't exactly one of my favorites, but he did end up being quite sweet when Liv needed him to be. I think the only reason I don't like him though is because I wanted Liv and Eugene to be together :3
Looking at the entire story, I think it played out well. The plot had a clear beginning, rising action, and end (if I knew the other technical terms I'd use them xD) and it was easy to follow. Even when there were time skips and things like that we were able to follow. The story you decided to tell worked out well and I think you did a good job setting it up. This story is rather short so I can't really comment on all of the things I'd normally comment on. I guess I'll just have to focus on everything I normally would just on a smaller scale.
The story. Like I aaid, I think you found the right story to tell. I feel like this was always going to be about Hayden, but it was finding the right time for him to be in Liv's life. Having her look to him as a distraction of sorts worked rather well. I do have to say though, that I wished you would've shown us the conversation that they had in the record shop a few chapters back. I know I know, I'm contradicting myself seeing as I said at that time I'm glad we didn't get all into that. However, now looking back at the big picture, we only see Hayden and Liv twice, really. Once at that concert and once at the end here. There wasn't much for me to base their relationship on. I knew that Liv kind of liked Hayden and was starting to really like him after a while and I know that Hayden wanted to talk with Liv. I didn't really see that one moment where they really connected and you could just tell that they felt something towards each other. So once they were kissing, it felt a bit rushed and out of the blue. I did really like how Liv was the one to kiss him though. It seemed right in her character based on how she had been feeling about Hayden. Hayden though, I wasn't so sure about. I didn't know how he was going to react to the kiss and it was a bit strange to see this other side of him only once. If we had seen it before I probably would've loved every moment of that kiss scene.
I'm very impressed with Liv. I think she is wonderfully written and you kept her consistent throughout. I could, more often than not, predict what she was going to do/think/feel. All of that good stuff that you want your readers to get out of your main character. Her relationship with Eugene is well estaished also. I could definitely see the connection the two of them had and, like I said, I think they're perfect together, no matter that you made Liv not like him at the end
Hayden is a very promising character. I see a lot in him and you definitely brought him to life. Like I said though, I would've liked to see a bit more of him and Liv. This story is all about Liv and why she decides to kiss Hayden, but it's also very much about Hayden. We need to really understand him as well in order to really believe that he would kiss Liv and that he would go through all of that effort to comfort her. I don't know if you'd have the time to do that in the storyline, but maybe consider it. An extra scene or two with Hayden really would've rounded out his character.
Eugene is by far my favorite. I can see how much he cares about Liv and how much he wants to keep her safe and happy. I think that's why he didn't tell her about the whole incident with the school and giving up music. He wanted to protect her, protect their relationship. And I admire him for that. So when he finally did end up telling her, it was a big step for him. He really put himself out there and put their relationship in "danger". This big secret that he was keeping added another dimension to the story as well. It wasn't just about Liv and Hayden anymore. It was a whole big web of craziness going on behind the scenes. We didn't know about it until the end, but once it was revealed, the entire story seemed to come together.
Personally, I feel like this ending is a bit quick. We've been waiting the entire story to find out why Liv kissed Hayden and then once it happens, the story is over. What about Eugene? How does he feel about all of this? And how does Liv feel about him and everything that happened now that she kissed Hayden? I really wanted to see his reaction and how things have changed or not changed between them. Since it was such a bomb he dropped on her before this, I feel like it's important that we see her change in attitude towards him further, when she's not angry. As of now, the argument with Eugene feels unresolved.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this story. It's not the type of story I'd normally read, but I found myself wanting to read more and wanting to find out what was going to happen. You did a good job balancing moving the plot forward and focusing on Liv and her feelings. Everything really came together with the plot and the characters and all the conflict. Your writing is great and your writing style is consistent throughout.
Keep writing!

Thanks so much for the epic review (I dunno if it's just cos I'm on my phone, but it's massive! XD) Some definite food for thought for the rewrites. D: I really appreciate you following this through to the end, and thanks again for all your reviews over the past few months.
Ugghh... I can already feel my dread mounting as I stare at the words that mark the end of my journey, the pre-depression depression, if you will. At the same time I totally don't want to review because I just want to read the story... it's problematic.
This is what I'm assuming is supposed to happen.Right, the first thing I noticed was this.
Huh, this is interesting. The Vandalism didn't, but the fact that he covered it up did supposedly.. the end of inner monologue makes it clear she still wants his friendship, though I wonder what Eugene thinks? Does he think Liv is done with him, or that she'll forgive him? Does Liv even consider ending their friendship? You don't have to answer these questions, it works fine as is, this is just where my mind went.
Oh! oh! I know I know! Pick me! *jumps up down with hand in the air like Hermione*
... That awkward moment when I'm actually wrong, and it's not him...
Nevermind. It was him. We're all good.
I would look over this part again, see if there's anything you can cut, or anyone for him to say things in less words.
Edit: I like that this is him rambling, just din't read that way for me, maybe throw in a few awkward pauses or mention that he said this kind of quickly... something like that.
Whew. That make out scene was... let's just say you clearly know what you're doing.
Also this. " to where Pugnacious Dogma was about to play their first song for the last time." This was beautiful. And such a great ending. I mean yeah, I'm still depressed, but I'm not angry at the way things ended like I sometimes am, so that's good.
My one little comment is something I mentioned earlier, about not writing the subtext. Also, be careful of dialogue that's too on the nose. By that I mean this: people, in general, are reluctant to reveal themselves, therefore we don't often say exactly what we're thinking, especially to people we don't know very well. Just something to keep in mind.
So, to cap up. What I love about these stories was your characterization and relationships. Not only did they feel real, but they made me, the reader, feel something, which is amazing. Your pacing and progression was also excellent. It wasn't rushed, yet we were still moving toward this amazing conclusion. Your prose also hand a wonderful, almost floating feel to it.
I don't really remember a lot of descriptions standing out to me, but not all stories need that to be successful. I was able to keep track of where they were and what they were doing, which is the important part.
So, I know you're not quite sure what you're doing with this yet, but if you ever decide to share the extension in a public place, let me know, capisce?
I'm so glad you mentioned this me. I loved it. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you! It means so much to me that you've followed this through to the end, and you've given me so much advice - especially some of the technical, subtext stuff - that is really helpful. Whatever happens with the next draft, you'll be one of the first to know about what's going on. Thank you again! x
This was amazing! This chapter and the whole story itself! I'm not even sure what else I can say.

I would have like this to have been a little longer. I would have like to see a bit more of a resolution to it. Like how Liv and Hayden's relationship will affect Liv and Eugene's relationship. But of course there are loads of wonderful novels that sort of left the reader hanging in a way, so i can't really complain. I just don't want it to be over.
I apologize for not being the greatest reviewer- although you don't make it easy for me when your writing is so wonderful that there is nothing for me to criticize, haha.
I'm really glad I came across this story and it will most likely stick in my head for a long time.
Keep writing & happy Review Day!

Thank you! I really appreciate that you've taken the time to read this.
Hey!
I see you plan on redrafting this in a while, that sounds great! Thanks for the story, I really enjoyed it, you're very talented and it was a fun read.
Omg the final part!
Okay, so at first I was a little confused by why Liv was so angry, but I think you address it well in the fact that *she* is so angry herself. That said, I feel like to allow for this reaction, the fight in the last part needs to be just a little bit more dramatic. Sorry, I'm terrible, I keep going back and talking about the last part in my reviews!
I would have loved to see Liv's mum behind the bar like "WHAT IS GOING ON"
But Hayden. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaayden. He's such a cutie! I found it funny because he seemed so mysterious and dangerous and whatever, I never thought he'd be the kind of guy to come in and make sure a girl is okay because she seemed upset. So adorable.
I also like "the other one" as a reference to Audrey. I feel like it accurately sums up Audrey's personality. And "Freddie would be Freddie." It's amazing how well delineated the dynamics of this group are, so well done on that.
I really liked the kiss scene. It felt honest. It was sweet, it was romantic, and it was appropriate for the situation. I like how the ending between Liv and Hayden is open-ended. One funny thing - 'shift' is Irish slang for 'make out with' so when it was used to describe Hayden's movement, I sniggered xD
But I do think I have issue with the way things end with Eugene. Here, you seem certain that the band is going to break up, and Eugene doesn't get mentioned in the last few paragraphs. Are we to take it he and Liv stop being friends altogether and in this moment she fully intends to erase him from her life? It just didn't seem whole. I feel like that was something drastically under-addressed in your ending, especially as its the main conflict of the whole story and it isn't really resolved at this stage. And it doesn't even have to be resolved, but I do think it deserves a mention.
That's about it though
Hope I helped, drop me a note if you need anything!

Thank you for this rview and following Hauden through to the end. All your feedback is a massive help.
Accurate.
Okay, so now I have to figure out what to say when I'm sitting here at the end...
Well, I love the very last line for sure.
I like the way Liv's thoughts move from anger/almost bordering on hatred of Eugene to feeling guilty because she missed his change in behavior even though they've been friends forever. However, I feel like the opening to this part of the chapter--I mean, I know it's not really the opening of the chapter, it's actually kind of the middle bit, but it read awkwardly. Like she's storming through this place that I have no clear image of, and the sentences were all kind of structured the same way, so it sounded repetitive and dull...in the middle of a big-deal sort of thing!
I think if you maybe took her shifting attitude toward Eugene and interspersed it between the descriptions of her finding a room, that would help. It would break things up a little more and keep us in this dramatic moment.
Other than that...mmm...let me know when you revise, because I would be perfectly willing to read this again and see what changes you make!

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing this whole story. Revising probably won't be happening till late this year (I want to wait until after my final exams in October-ish before I go back to it), but when I do I'll let you kn ow what's going on. Rewriting's probably going to be a bit haphazard, so I doubt I'll be posting it on YWS, but I'll still keep you in the loop.

Thank you again. All your support and advice for Hayden over the last few moths has been very much appreciated.
Ahhh it's the last part
This should be past - but you do it in the rest of the sentence, so this was probably just a slip!
Yesss this sentence alone saves the last part and my problems with it. Thank you! I did think the problem was more Liv not knowing about it than the actual thing, and I’m so glad it came up.
These two “making me feels” make it repetitive in an unnecessary way - the way that doesn’t sound like it’s for effect.
I’m wondering whether Liv would really not recognise Hayden’s voice, since he seems to have been in her thoughts quite a lot and she invited him there, but maybe she just hasn’t known him long enough to know him by his voice right away.
Hayden’s appearance → my mind: yesss, we’re onto the kissing soon!
I know this feeling so well. It’s the “oh god he is touching me and I think I like him but I don’t know him well enough to be totally comfortable with him touching me” feeling. It’s perfect xD
My thoughts exactly.
<3
ME TOO.
Oh my goodness. It's all over. I think you ended it in a lovely way though. It's all nostalgic and hopeful for the future at the same time. Who's able to do that!? And I also kind of like how it leaves us in the middle but also kind of at the end and beginning. Ahhh.
And all the build-up was totally worth it.
Did I mention I love the title of the story and the eight reasons and eight chapters? Did I mention I really liked reading this?
You should totally write more and post it for me to read right now. I saw in your status you were writing something new?
Thank you so much for the lovely reading experience, Sarah! And you can thank StellaThomas for this because she was talking about this story before I had read it and it got me interested and then I came and read it!
Now what shall I do...

Thank you for the review! So glad you liked it, and I'm relieved that the fact that Liv was angry with Eugene for hding things from her came through. That was the intention, and thing I was worried about.

Hayden's being left to sit for a few months now, probably until shool finishes (October-November-ish for me this year. Year twelve *shudders*). But I am writing something new, and should be posting the first chapter relaitvely soon, seeing as it's mostly just a rewrite of the first chapter of another writing project.
Thanks again for all the advice and kind words for Hayden. It means a lot that you've taken the time to read my little story.
