Lady Sadness

E - Everyone

In My work

Tell me which colour is the Sadness.

Can you call it by its name?

Do you think that it would answer,

and become a friend along the way?

Tell me, did Sadness ever lie?

Or was it simply only there?

Do you think it enjoyed watching

Silent movies of despair?

Tell me, would you be called human

if you hadn't felt it anywhere?

Do you think it is evil,

or is it Truth we cannot bare?

Hi, Legy here,

This poem was quite beautiful, but a little contorted with confusion. What I mean by that is, there were certain words you incorporated in the piece that started me thinking of other stuff, drawing me away from the idea you were supposed to be meddling with; sadness. Also, I don't know if I'm just plain dumb or fussy, but the first line about colour, well, I really just wanted to here what colour you thought sadness was....Anyhoo, hope this was a decent review.

:)

Hi Legy, thank you for reviewing. About the colour of the sadness- It's mostly metaphoric. The question was about how do we experience sadness and would you label it as something dark and gloomy.
Thanks for reviewing^^

Love this! Really, the piece is beautiful. I adore the personification that you give to Sadness. It speaks volumes about the depth of the emotion. I think most everything I noticed has already been covered, so I really only have one tiny nit-pick. In the second line where it says "Can you call it by its name," to me sounds a little congested. I might alter it slightly to take out the second its and leave it as "Can you call it by name". To me, it seems to help the flow of the piece.

This is great! Have a nice day!

Hey there! Purple here to review! Let's get started.
I actually liked the personification you have to "Sadness", but I think it wasn't needed on "Truth" (if that's what you were doing as I assumed with the capitalization, either way you don't need it). Because this is about Sadness and the importance of that and when you bring in another element as important as a person it makes the reader wonder about Truth then. You just did a whole poem about Sadness, giving us every detail and every question you had, and then at the end you throw another personified word at us. Another thing I noticed: regardless about how the sentence may have gone, you put a comma at the end of every line. The issue I have with this is that when you start a new line that is enough of a sign to pause. This is also tied into how you capitalize the first word in almost every line. Now, you have the freedom to decide how you want to punctuate it, but I highly recommend you change the format of this to make real sentences all formed correctly. It helps the flow greatly and let's the reader understand it better.
"Tell me which colour is the Sadness.

Can you call it by its name?

Do you think that it would answer,

and become a friend along the way?

Tell me, did Sadness ever lie?

Or was it simply only there?

Do you think it enjoyed watching

its silent movies of despair?

Tell me, would you be called human

if you hadn't felt it anywhere?

Do you think it is the evil,

or the truth that we cannot bare?"

I hope this was helpful and have a nice day!

Hi Purple. I liked your review and edited the work accordingly. The thing I left is the personification of the truth...because I intended Truth to be as almost a second character here. You see :"Do you think it is evil" is about the Sadness -as a character. Is it Sadness the one thats evil or is Truth the one we can't bare. Well i suppose it's not clear enough...What can I say- my poetry really needs some improvement:)))
Cheers.

I love this! The rhyme feels bitter sweet and you personify sadness but then challenge the expectations of viewing it as an antagonist. The lines "Do you think it enjoyed watching, silent movies in despair. Tell me would you be called human, if you haven't felt it anywhere" were so perfect and just beautifully expressed.

Personally, I would have used less commas and more question marks, for example-
"Do you think it enjoyed watching
silent movies in despair?
Tell me, would you be called human
if you hadn't felt it anywhere?"

Just a personal preference of using puntuation in poetry the same as in prose.

The only mistake I spotted was the use of "haven't"- since you used "would" in the line before you should really use "hadn't" instead. Or you could keep "haven't" but use "will" instead of "would". It's just a matter of confused tenses.

Other than that, this was really good. I love the rhyme scheme and pretty much everything else about it! Keep writing! :)

Thank you for your kind words. :) English is not my first language so mistakes are bound to happen, thank you for pointing them out. I'll correct them right away.
Cheers.
