E - Everyone

For Matt on His Seventeenth

So Matt,

Today you are seventeen

And I don’t have a present for you,

But cut me a break okay?

I only knew it was your birthday yesterday,

Which was actually today for me,

But that’s beside the point.

The point is I have nothing for you

Save a few lines that I hope will make you smile.

Matt,

I miss your simple smile.

There was something familiar in your face

And it made me feel at home

Even though we were thousands of miles from it.

Matt,

I miss your awkward charm.

While the rest of the world tries to be more like everyone else,

You are you to a tee

And that makes you special.

Matt,

I miss the way you said my name

And your face would light up when I smiled

And you laughed at all my jokes,

Even when they weren’t funny.

Matt,

I miss the way you hugged me goodbye at the airport,

Your large, sloth arms enveloped me like a warm blanket

And I blinked back tears

And knew we would see each other again someday.

So Matt,

Today on your birthday,

I wish you all the best,

And I hope that when I call out my bedroom window,

My voice will travel across the Southern states,

Through sandstorms and torrential rains,

To find you

In Phoenixish, Arizona

And you’ll smile.

Happy Birthday Matt

Hello! This is very cute and sweet!

First off, I think you can do without the beginning.

"The point is I have nothing for you

Save a few lines that I hope will make you smile."

Everything from there up, I don't think it's necessary, and it ruins the flow of the piece.

Now. Onto everything after that intro. I love the way you repeated the name "Matt" because it really made the poem personal.

This is so well written, so sad, so happy. It's amazing and If someone wrote this for me I'd be crying. Beautiful piece. Well done.

Keep up the amazing work,

Kam

Hey! Good poem! I like how well-written and thoughtful this is! This was really cute, and made me feel both happy and sad, especially the sixth stanza when you wrote "and I blinked back tears." Just adorable! I didn't really see any mistakes at all, but I like how you wrote "in Phoenixish, Arizona." I can see and feel the real emotions of the friend who wrote this; they proved that they cared about Matt with every single line. This was heartfelt, and a great, smooth read. Thanks for writing this, and have a great day!
Love,
Perks

Noelle, you can lead a writer to their computer and give them coffee, but you can't make them write.
