We as people are human, but really, what does it mean to be human?
It's just words on a page. It doesn't have to mean anything if you don't want it to. However, there is the fact that we are not just words on a page, that we feel and we experience things. How is it that such few characters can define us?
As a little girl I never really thought about how people might be suffering as I gobbled down my ice cream cone and asked for more. I never thought about even if I wasn't rich, I was still fortunate to have food on the table and a bed to sleep on. We are greedy beings-- but is that what it really means to be a person? Well, not all of it.
As I started to grow up a little I learned that not everyone is lucky, bad things happen to us and sometimes worse things happen to other people. Death is inevitable. So is misfortune. It happens to us all-- and that realization made me more aware of the world.
We are greedy beings, but that's just instinct. With our selfishness comes something else-- compassion. Now I'm not going to go in all about joy and the gifts of life. I mean, sure, that's part of being human too. Experience things that fill your heart with joy, but that's not everything-- what about that people who don't feel joy? Those who are bullied and harassed and called harsh names?
Compassion is the reason why we aren't all just fighting for survival; why there are good people in this world. Yeah, it's cheesy, but we all have feelings. We feel these feelings everyday. There is no escaping them, and that's what I think makes the human race special.
We are not raging animals. We have thoughts and feelings and each our own uniqueness. How did we, who all started out as simple beings like the mammals around us, evolve into such complicated yet amazing creatures?
We recognize beauty and feelings. We try to console those of us who are in pain or mourning. Just the simple fact that we all view the world in different ways is amazing. We all have our own hopes and dreams, and we all long for each other's company.
To me, being human is simply feeling, just being ourselves. We're all special. Out there in that vast world-- there isn't and never will be another you. Who and what you hold dear is uniquely your's; so what's your definition of being human?

A strong point of this piece was your language and description, which is especially shown in the first paragraph, it really draws the reader in an creates some beautiful imagery. I think the fact that it's in the second person is also interesting, and it makes it quite engaging to read as I haven't read a lot in the second person; also it gives it a more personal feel.
Although there were some really beautiful descriptions throughout the piece, after the first paragraph I felt there was enough, and then to read more made it a bit samey to read. I wouldn't say get rid of all of the descriptions because you've done a really good job of them, but I'd say just add some variation in it because right now it's quite description-heavy. Plot wise, what's actually going on? I understand the the MC has lost their love, while these abstract descriptions of it are quite pretty, I think you need some more explanations for it because right now the plot falls a bit flat. I'm not sure if that's what you were going for, to have a more metaphorical piece, but it just seems a bit pointless to do so without more of an explanation for plot.
Well, the reason why you don't really get the plot and all that is because it's not a story at all. It's an essay. Haha, I guess you could see how you could mix it up. Thanks for the wonderful comment anyway!

Well, it is from the dictionary, I just cut some stuff out and spaced it out a bit xD My tablet was being funky and wouldn't let me look it up, so I had to pull out a dictionary that gave me an incredibly long definition to type, sooo.
