Last Line(s) of Chapter 1.1: Quinn dug her fingers into the palms of her hands as she tried to fight the new wave of nausea. A selfish part of her was grateful that she had let Issac go alone; the other part hated how he had to deal with the sight of a dead man by himself. “We need to check the news again,” she said. “We need to see if you recognize any other faces-”
“We're not doing this together anymore.”
The nausea immediately vanished.
“But...”
“It's not safe,” Issac said. “I was a fool for thinking that it was.”
“What are you talking about?” she asked. “Nothing's changed-”
“The bullet was silver.”
Quinn stared up at him, even as he refused to meet her eyes. She waited for him to say more – to explain what that could possibly mean for their strange partnership and friendship – but he stayed frustratingly silent. The words finally registered as the person in the room next door flushed the toilet.
“...Silver bullets are how you kill werewolves,” Quinn realized.
Issac gave a tiny nod.
“But werewolves aren't real, right?” she managed to get out. “They're-They're just stories. And even if they were real, the bullet wouldn't have to be silver to kill someone when they're shot into the head.”
She searched Issac's face. He couldn't ever display emotions to their full extent, but he seemed so tired. He must have had a conversation like this a hundred times before with the countless other people he had made deals with. She wondered what other things he had conveniently left out before. Were werewolves just the tip of the iceberg?
“I had hoped I wouldn't have to tell you about this,” Issac admitted. He got to his feet and walked over to the desk's chair. Its wheels squeaked as he rolled it over to the end of the bed. It was only when he was sitting down again – this time across from her instead of beside her – that he finally met her desperate gaze. “Human don't like what is different from them, Quinn. Hunters, exorcists, paranormal investigators – their names may change, but they are all ultimately the same. They see the supernatural as a threat.”
He let out a sigh and leaned back in his chair.
“This body is a curse,” he said, “but it has its benefits. It's difficult for those who don't know me by my true name to realize that I'm a demon. So far, we've never interacted with someone who would want to harm me because we don't share the same kind of soul. But if hunters are getting involved with the people who made me this way, I can't allow you to stay by my side. Our contract has been completed. You fixed me. I helped you leave your family. I can't let you get hurt.”
Quinn took a deep breath.
“I'm not scared of getting hurt,” she said. She hoped he couldn't see how her hands were shaking as she balled them up in her lap.
“They can hurt you in ways that you can't imagine,” Issac said. “They may hate the supernatural, but they hate those that support us even more. They'll punish you for making a deal with a demon if they ever discover the truth behind our friendship.”
“Then teach me,” she said. “Teach me how to be
safe. Teach me how to pick out a hunter in the crowd – and how to
avoid them. You know I'm a fast learner. I can learn about the
supernatural side of the world.”
Issac looked uncertain.
“You're my best friend, Issac,” she said. Her only friend. “I couldn't ever leave you over something like this.”
He didn't say anything.
Quinn kept watching his face, waiting for it to shift and reveal what he was really thinking behind the emotionless mask he always kept up. She listened to the chair creak as Issac sat forward again. The thin line his lips were usually drawn into was gone; instead, his lips were turned up in his best imitation of a smile. The moving metallic parts underneath his skin only let him do so much.
She couldn't help but smile, too.
“Fine,” he relented. “You can stay with me. But you have to listen to everything I say-”
He was cut off by her suddenly leaning forward and pulling him into an embrace.
“You won't regret this,” she promised.
After a moment of hesitation, Issac returned the hug.

The old motel room was dingy and disgusting. He could have sworn that he saw a cockroach crawling in one of the corners, and he could hear bits of the conversation in the room next door if he strained his ears hard enough. He had forgotten how much he loved places like this – the apartment he had been staying in for the past month was of a slightly better quality. Not enough to write home to his nonexistent family about, but was certainly enough to seem like a palace compared to this prime specimen of the American tourism industry.
As he exited the bathroom, his gaze traveled to the gun he had left on his dresser. He knew he probably should have tucked it in his suitcase, but he hated getting the blood on his spare leather jacket. He shook his head. He should have stepped farther away before firing the shot into that monster's head; the jacket he had been wearing then was reduced to a stained mess in the tub. Leather jackets weren't exactly cheap.
He grabbed his headphones from his dresser and scrolled through his playlists until he found just the artist he was looking for – one could never go wrong with Bon Jovi. Once his musical accompaniment was all set, he turned his attention back to the gun. It didn't take long for him to pull out the cleaning kit from the very bottom of his suitcase.
It had been some time since he had last fired it, but his muscles still remembered all of the motions to cleaning it. He pushed the window open. He wasn't bothered by the cool, October air blowing into the room as he sat down at the desk. What did bother him was the music being replaced by an ad. Still, he didn't have the luxury of lamenting too long on not being able to buy himself a subscription – instead, he had to vent his frustrations by irritably tapping his fingers against the desk in a questionable rendition of Livin' on a Prayer until the actual song started playing.
He slid the cleaning rod into the gun's barrel.
Maybe it was just the influence of Hollywood, but he had been sure that killing a werewolf would be harder than it actually was. Jean Sullivan was his second werewolf of the year, and his tenth since he had started this hunting spree. Jean, like his predecessors, was all-too-easily surprised by him whipping out a gun.
He reassembled said gun and leaned back in his chair. The trees littering the sides eerily empty road outside were a beautiful display of vibrant yellow, as scattered as they were. It was a shame that the town he'd be going back to in less than an hour lacked the same natural appeal.
He slipped his gun back into his suitcase.
A demon, he supposed, would be much more of a challenge, anyways.

Hi Mage!
So this Jean that we heard of before happens to be a werewolf and there's involvement of some Hunter in his murder. All this really looks appealing to me and I am sure there's going to be some good action and adventure in the future chapters.
I am here for another chapter. We are finally introduced with some supernatural elements here, Werewolves
Okay, so this part where Issac says "we don't share the same kind of soul" I assume it's again related to some kind of supernatural stuff, it was a bit confusing for me at first. He called himself as demon before and I don't know if demon have any souls, I mean what my little knowledge says is that they usually feed on souls. Ahh ignore this is just my overthinking. This is your world. By the way I am really touched by the fact that Issac is showing so much concern for Quinn
The next part was quite interesting. Getting to read from the perspective of the villain, the hunter. I always like the part narrated from the perspective of the antagonist in the novels. (though I should not just jump to conclusions if he is actually the antagonist, there's probably a lot of mystery for us)
I am not sure if that 'said' is written for any reason there and what sense does it make?
So overall, I love the connection that you have set up. I am really intrigued by the story so far and I would know more about your characters and this mystery.
Great work!
Keep writing
Thank you for your review!
I'll make a note that I need to expand on that a little more! I've been struggling to find the right time to, but basically different kinds of creatures have different slightly different souls. Demon souls in particular have a lot of cool features - like being more malleable - while human souls like Quinn's are pretty static.
<3
It was, actually! It's basically like "aforementioned" - this gives a little explanation to it! The guy in the second half of the chapter was basically referencing how the gun he had shot Jean (and previous other victims) with was the gun he was currently cleaning. Aforementioned technically works there, too, but said really fits his character more.
Thank you again for reviewing my novel!
Hi Mage,
This was a nice close to the chapter. I'm glad Quinn decided to stay. And their relationship is so cute!
I was a little confused by this. Quinn's been traveling with a demon for three years now. I imagine she would already have an idea that other supernatural creatures exist.
I like the introduction of the antagonist if he is the main antagonist. The stakes are getting higher.
Thank you for your review!
Quinn and Issac's friendship will always make me soft. <3 I really need to work on writing Quinn more on her own, but I love writing her with other characters - she brings out a much sweeter side of them.
That's definitely something I need to edit! I like the idea of Quinn not knowing anything about the supernatural because it lets the reader learn as she does, but I also know it's a little weird - maybe I can put more effort into Issac's attempts to keep her from learning too much about it to avoid that.
And I'm glad you like the antagonist!
Back to finish the chapter!
I like how the story is getting more supernaturally as it goes along but I felt like the conversation in the first half was quite stilted. It was just kinda like 'werewolves exist?' 'yeah. And there's hunters' 'oh, then you better teach me how to protect myself' and... I dunno... it just felt very rushed and not realistic to me? I know she already knows about demons so its not exactly as shocking to her that other supernatural beings exist as it would be to say, a regular person, but as this is the first chapter and we're diving straight into the story it can't feel too much like we're already submersed into this world. I think maybe a bit more back and forth would work better. At least with Isaac being a bit more unsure about sticking around seeing as he obviously cares about her. He should at least need a little more convincing.
Nice use of the switch in perspective! I like that we're getting the other side of this... because I'm still not quite sure as to what is going on, but this should help piece things together quicker.
Thank you for the review! I've been struggling to write Issac & Quinn at this point in the story, so it's good to know what worked and what didn't.
(I've actually written them from farther along in their story, so it's weird trying to write them before they meet other characters that really complete their group dynamic.)
I'll definitely flesh out the conversation in future drafts. <3
Hi Mage!
The prologue had me hooked right away. It's a cool take on the supernatural. I can't wait to find out more! Like, why/how they summoned Isaac, or what it even means for someone to be summoned in this universe.
I'll say Isaac is a likeable character, but the deal unsettles me. Like, will Quinn ever actually want to meet her family again? How does Isaac react if she does? It's interesting to think about.
I don't have any complaints yet. It's just the first two chapters. So there's a lot of time and room for fleshing these characters out. Most important thing is that the first chapters managed to create interest, as they're supposed to do.
I was surprised to see a little bit of the Hunter's perspective. I get the feeling that he's in it for the thrill, but I guess we'll find out as the mystery unfolds. I do wonder if he's a little psychopathic, or does acknowledging that the person he's killing is not strictly a human being make it easier for him?
That's the review! It's on the shorter side but it's just the thoughts that I had. Have a good day and keep on writing.
Excelsior!
~MAS
Thank you for your review! I'm glad that you're enjoying the story so far - and that you're interested in the hunter's perspective.
Anytime!
Ooft, I really appreciate it when people do this. Obviously I've just read the last section but guaranteed I will get worse with remembering what's happened in previous parts as you move on through this story. So yes, please continue doing this! It's just enough to jog my poor old memory xD
Wait, we have werewolves now too?
Ah Quinn, you and I are completely on the same page here. I like how she's got that bit of doubt, even as she's saying this. I mean, she met a robot who was also a demon, she's got to be much more open to what things are real now, right?
Not quite sure how we made that jump... but interesting to learn that he's made tonnes of other deals. Also, so curious as to why he's called Issac now!!
Should be 'humans'.
I think I'm following, but this may need a bit more explanation later on... he has a kind of soul that is different to Quinn's but not different to werewolves?
Awwwwh!
Oh, I love this character already.
I really like the new character you've got in this second part. It brings more depth to the story and adds more of a sense of urgency to whatever quest it is that Issac and Quinn are undertaking.
I don't have much more to add here, but please tag me when you post another part and let me know if these reviews are helpful - I'm happy to focus on something specific if you want
Icy <3
Thank you so much for the review! I was worried the switch from Azazel to Issac would be confusing, but it thankfully looks like that part was clear. <3

I'll hopefully clarify on the soul comment in the future - if I don't, I'll take it out from this chapter.
And I'll definitely let you know when I post more!
Hello and Howdy!
This chapter was such a delight to read! I haven't read the rest of the story, but I'll have to go back and do that, because wow. Honestly, I have nothing negative to say about it, aside from one small nitpick; I felt like this line, '“You're my best friend, Issac,” she said. Her only friend. “I couldn't ever leave you over something like this.”' Should have been written like this: '“You're my best friend, Issac,” she said. "My only friend. I couldn't ever leave you over something like this.”' Although honestly, that's just a personal preference. Once again, lovely chapter, and I wouldn't expect anything less from the even lovelier Magebird.
Auf Wiedersehen!

And awww!! Thank you for the compliment. <3
This was a pleasant surprise! I thought I was going to have to wait for days before reading more!! This novel just keeps getting better and better with each chapter!!
Awww, thank you!! I'm glad you liked this chapter. <3
