Sonnet 1

To halt just short of love is quite the crime,
For youth is meant for battles such as love
And one cannot merely forsake those doves
That live with beauty till the end of time.

Yet love can be a sad and bloody mess
If one does not love with all of one’s heart
Or have the courage that is meant to start
The peri’lous journey that writers oft address.

Do take that chance that Orpheus did take
And look upon the face that may soon leave.
If love is worth the chance of sense bereaved,
Then live life as if it was yours to make.

Love cannot be set aside for fear,
Or else you can expect the silent tear.

Timmy here for a review!
It is review day and here I am! Tada!!! lol

So this was a beautiful sonnet! :D It seems like a poem... A sonnet is a poem, though... Right?

So first off, you could delete the name of the sonnet. It isn't necessary as the title has already been stated! And then the whole poem could be moved up to the top.

The peri’lous journey that writers oft address ----I think you meant perilous there and maybe often instead of oft?

Do take that chance that Orpheus did take ---I think Orpheus took would work better there

Love cannot be set aside for fear,

Or else you can expect the silent tear. ----Maybe a silent tear?

I think that sums up my nitpicks! This was a beautiful poem, and it told a beautiful story! Sorry for the short review, but there isn't much to critique!

*tips hat* G'day philosopher, Subtle here for a review on review day! May I take this chance to say that your writing style is very classical? Is one of the few classical style poems I have read, and least of all. One about love! I liked the general idea of this sonnet, and it is a very well-written sonnet. The rhythm flows nicely here, and you have rhymed it. Which is good, sonnets usually rhyme. I just really like the language used in here, and the metaphors as well.

To halt just short of love is quite the crime,

For youth is meant for battles such as love

And one cannot merely forsake those doves

That live with beauty till the end of time.

Just great, opening stanza. Comparing love as doves, even though cliché. You have made it unique in this instance.

The peri’lous journey that writers oft address.
I don't quite get by what you mean here, the perilous journey that writers often address....are you saying that we should take the chance and plunge in?

Love cannot be set aside for fear,

Or else you can expect the silent tear.

I like the ending, because it speaks truthfully. So, overall. Wonderful sonnet written in an Old-English style. You have a very unique style, my friend!

Like the poem! This has good rhythm, and contains some very nice lines, namely "Love cannot be set aside for fear, or else you can expect the silent tear."
I am glad that you have decided to write in rhyme, despite your obvious low self confidence in such matters.
The title is however is untrue, and I suggest you change it. Perhaps to "The argument of love."?
Also I don't think you should put negative thoughts in the description. It will only discourage potential reviewers.
Keep up the good work!

A poem about love, nice.
I like the way you put it together. Definately admirable!
The last two lines are my favourite and the most effective according to me.
Your poem is not an argument for love,is it? So, the title could have been something else, something more meaningful and attractive.
Looking forward for more.
Keep writing!

PS. I hope you don't get offended. Its just my opinion :)
