Wolves

PreviousNext

Moonlight casts a silver sheen

Upon the shadowed wood;

And all around a daunting echo

Of music to the sky.

With fur that glistens in the night,

Made wet with silver tears,

Crying to the Moon

For souls taken in the night.

But as the Moon takes shape,

Becoming whole again

Hope takes flight and life begins anew.

Wow. That is the first thing I can say. I too, have a love of wolves, and this is truely amazing. The way you described them, they way you described their crys, it is something I haven't read before, but I genuinely wish I could. It was packed with emotion, with understanding. It was written in a way I have yet to see, but it works, it truely works.
I love the line "Crying to the moon/for souls taken in the night." It blows me away. Well done. I cannot find the words to describe this poem. All I can say is well done, and please, keep writing this kind of thing. I would really enjoy looking into it even more.
Simply astonishing.

Hi there, I was so impressed with the diction you use. It is have an emotional impact with the details given on the wolves that comes out at night.

Moonlight casts a silver sheen
Upon the shadowed wood;

I love the details here on the moonlight and also the shadowed wood. You have a perfect setting for your poem. Indeed, perfect and clear imagination.
And all around a daunting echo
Of music to the sky.

It is quite tough to express the sound of the howling wolves. So say it as a music seem like an easy way. After all, you should be more creative to express it in a way that sounds more appealing.
But as the Moon takes shape,
Becoming whole again*( full moon)
Hope takes flight and life begins anew.

The irony behind the 'full moon'* can define so much meanings deepen inside. I like how you describe the full moon here! For me it was amazing. But I am not so sure for the last line is. What actually the purpose within this line?
Overall, really nice poem to read. So breathtaking and awesome. Keep writing!
Kudos, cheers :)

Thanks! :) I meant to have the last line indicate purity or to become pure again but I wasn't really sure how to get that across and I didn't want to drag.

I really like this, although it seems a bit vague. In a way that is good because it helps to heighten the mood, but if the title hadn't been there to explain what it was, then I might not have comprehended the poem. It still seems a bit confusing. I can sense that you are telling a story, but I'm not totally sure what the story is. For example, I do not understand the phrase "life begins anew". What life? What does the moon have to do with it? anyways...

I do however love the imagery, especially with this line: "made wet with silver tears". I suppose I like that line mostly because it just sounds cool, and yes, very much like fantasy, but I also like it because it lets on that the wolf is a sad and lonely creature, with only the moon for a companion.

Good luck with your writing in the future. I look forward to hearing more from you and welcome to the YWS. I hope it inspires you to write more! :)

By sis!
