The Journey for Happiness

by InJung15

What is happiness to you?

For some people, happiness can be buying your dream house, being rich, or being with the person you love. To me, happiness is still quite a blur, but I know that to me, true happiness is loving who you are as a person, and smiling not just on the outside but also the inside. Anyone can smile, but can they smile truly and be happy on the inside? For so long I have hated myself. I would literally forgive everyone in my life except me. I was never satisfied with who I am. My parents expected the highest from me, love came by but eventually left, and I was never satisfied with my physique. As some of you may know after my recent incident with heartbreak I made the decision to love and put myself first for once.

As an overthinker, it is extremely hard to think things easily, I have always thought the worst of things, it was like sailing on a massive ship with great potential through a fierce storm of non-existent scenarios filling up the ship causing it to become unstable. It's sad to see how many people in today's society aren't happy with who they are. We are so used to pretending to be someone we’re not, that most of us have forgotten who we truly are.

Let me ask you a question, name three people you love. You have your answers ready? I can certainly guarantee that no one in this room would have said themselves for any of the three people chosen. Shocking right? And if you truly did say yourself then please give yourself a massive pat on your back. To some of you it may sound absurd, I mean what idiot would say themselves right? Haha.

Or could it really be that self love is so scarce in our society that it is almost extinct?

The common problem in my perspective about today’s world is that too many people rush into a relationship clearly because they do not want to feel left out and alone. Or because they believe that the only way to be truly happy is to be with someone. I have seen plenty of couples, from the spark of their relationship to their tearful end. Strangely enough even during the relationship one would still cry from time to time, hating themselves, never forgiving their past mistakes.

Now I have also seen people that are single but they were literally exploding with happiness and positivity. They looked prettier than others and much happier. This I guess comes to prove that loving yourself first makes you unstoppable from this intoxicated world. Now I'm not saying relationships are bad because yes there are relationships where people love both themselves and their partners and that's what a relationship should be.

To be honest, I think this is the main issue between singles and those in a relationship. People that are single are so pressured by society to find a relationship because otherwise they think you won't be happy. But they are giving them no time to find out that loving yourself is the true meaning to happiness.

“There doesn't have to be loneliness in being alone, life can be beautiful, spontaneous, surprising, romantic and magical without you having some love affair happening, and you can replace all of those feelings you used to have when you were enamoured with someone with being surrounded by your friends, exploring and learning new things and challenging yourself” (Taylor Swift: emphasis added). Life’s about falling in love with yourself and continuing that, instead of falling in love with someone, who may not stay by your side forever. But you all of all people will. You were the only one who was always there for you, in the darkest of times, to the brightest of days, when you were in your bed crying, when you were broken, every time the person that woke up to a new day with new possibilities with you, is you.

Relationships aren't just about finding someone you think is pretty whether that may be on the outside or inside and being infatuated with them. Relationships are about spreading your love and connecting that love with someone special and then giving it to the rest of the world. So be yourself, love who you are and be compassionate and then, give that love and compassion and kindness to everyone around you and it will always come back to you.

Good day/afternoon/evening/night to you!

First off I just want to say, this is an amazing piece, and I agreed with it so much. Kudos to you for making the choice to love yourself!!

For so long I have hated myself. I would literally forgive everyone in my life except me. I was never satisfied with who I am.

I feel this... so much. I am constantly asking for forgiveness, trying to be better than my best but overworking myself and still not being satisfied. I can't be who I want to be because that person is skinny and perfect and... happy. I understand what you are saying here I think.

after my recent incident with heartbreak

Sorry about that!

Yes!! Thank you for saying this! I feel like I have a closet full of masks that I bring out for different people and occasions! Which one is me? I don't know anymore. Excellent imagery by the way! It really got your point across!

Haha.

I never even... I never even considered this as an option, or realized people do this? Wow, perspective shift right there. I guess I need to start doing that, huh?

Overall this was a fantastic, relatable piece that I felt needs to be spread! Thank you, looking forward to hearing more from you!

Look out for dragons,
Wren

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!!

First Impression: Hmm...well...this sounded like it would be an awesome wholesome story perhaps...and it turned out to be a really wholesome and super helpful piece of advice here. Well...this was just an amazing read. :D

Anyway let's get right to it,

Oooh...well I was very intrigued by that title since it seemed like this would be a pretty wholesome story....and hmm..well things are off to a really niece start there, certainly seems to be starting off with some awesome advice there at any rate, and then it goes on to talk about the journey itself, and how they seem to have come to the decision that that was the path to take...and soo..makes for a pretty neat opening paragraph here at any rate.

As an overthinker, it is extremely hard to think things easily, I have always thought the worst of things, it was like sailing on a massive ship with great potential through a fierce storm of non-existent scenarios filling up the ship causing it to become unstable. It's sad to see how many people in today's society aren't happy with who they are, we are so used to being someone who we are not that most of us have forgotten who we really once were.

Hmm, well certainly getting right into some proper issues there with that one, I'm sure most of us can relate to feeling like that and addressing it head on is a lovely way to really get to the heart of this first issue here...and I love the comparison that you make there, it certainly seems very fitting there.

Let me ask you a question, name three people you love. You have your answers ready? I can certainly guarantee that no one in this room would have said themselves for any of the three people chosen. Shocking right? And if you truly did say yourself then please give a massive pat on your back. To some of you it may sound absurd, I mean what idiot would say themselves right haha? Or could it really be that self love is scarce in our society?

Well I'll give myself a pat on the back but well...I know a lot of people who wouldn't be doing that, and yeah it does seem crazy at first, but loving yourself ends up being a surprisingly important thing for you to be able to do as a person...and you're really conveying this idea quite nicely here, the way that you introduce the topic through this paragraph is pretty neatly done.

The common problem in my perspective about today’s world is that too many people rush into a relationship clearly because they do not want to feel left out. Or because they believe that the only way to be happy is to be with someone.

Hmm, alright interesting move to turn towards this particular thing but again...this is all some hard facts being thrown at us here, I've seen my fair share of examples for everything mentioned here, and so far you're doing a great job of getting this central point across here while also making sure there are no misunderstandings. And when you take about social pressure, well that is definitely another huge and very true point, that once again I think a lot of readers would relate to...so you're doing a great job of conveying things here.

To be honest I think this is the main issue between singles and those in a relationship. People that are single are so pressured by society to find a relationship because otherwise they think you won't be happy. But they are giving them no time to find out that loving yourself is the true meaning to happiness. “There doesn't have to be loneliness in being alone, life can be beautiful, spontaneous, surprising, romantic and magical without you having some love affair happening, and you can replace all of those feelings you used to have when you were enamoured with someone with being enamoured with your friends and being enamoured with learning new things and challenging yourself”. It’s about falling in love with yourself and continuing that, instead of falling in love with someone, who may not stay by your side forever. But you all of all people will. You were the only one who was always there for you, in the darkest of days, to the brightest of days, when you were in your bed crying, when you were broken, every time the person that woke up to a new day with new possibilities with you, is you.

Ahh...this paragraph is beautiful there at the end, its a really simple idea to love yourself but the way that you bring it across there at the end, and you talk about how you're the only one that will always be there for yourself, well, its the kind of writing that can inspire...the words just have an awesome feel to them...I can't even quite explain just how much the effect is from words like those.

Ahh...well I was certainly not disappointed with regards to what I hoped to find...this is certainly a lovely way to bring an end to this story, with a lovely straightforward piece of advice there right at the end.

Aaaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: Overall, this is a gem of work here, and well, its got a ton of very helpful advice with situations that most people would be able to easily relate to and understand what's being said here. All I'd say here is Good Job!

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.

Stay Safe
Harry

Wow, as an early teenager I really needed to hear this. I don't have much self love ; I think everyone starts off with critiquing themselves until they feel totally worthless. Only then do you have a shot of rising up again.
Nice style and overall write was amazing! Hope to hear more from you.

Just as a reminder these types of writings are my viewpoints about the world and my experiences that I have had through life, it is not meant to be taken as critical advice, it is merely me sharing my thoughts and opinions, enjoy!!
