This is a book review about the Artemis Fowl book series by Colfer.
I feel the books are great specially the last book 'Artemis fowl and the lost colony.'but i would like to know the view of the other writers in the YWS.
Oh and those of you who haven't even heard of a code on the books. There is code on each end of the page (bottom of the pages) and sometimes on the cover and other places. As long as its written in fairy language its a code for you to crack. Those of you who do not have fairy language in your computer PM me and I'll send It to you.
So please tell me your views in Artemis Fowl.

I just love the Artemis Fowl series. I also have The Artemis Fowl Files in my possession. I know how to read Gnommish, but the problem is I can't write in Gnommish. If you don't believe me, ask Pundit to ask me on your behalf.
wait wait how did you mean the author exactly again??
I really love this series! I met the author last summer, and have since been very annoying about it.
I think that the character development is excellent (the way Artemis and Holly become friends is great) My favorite book was the fourth, as I really love Opal Koboi as a villain. I think that the one place that Eoin Colfer messed up a bit, was in the fifth book. It didn't tie in with the rest of the series very well.
However, I think he redeemed himself with the final book, which really brought the series full circle and tied it all together nicely. I also liked how he used Opal again, making her the 'main villain' of the series.
I still love those books, but I have to admit, the last one wasn't quite as good as the others. Can we have some new villains, plz? XD
I lied?? I lied i don't think i even said that. Did i??

Wait I just read the latest Artemis Fowl book. Holly or Butler doesn't die. *glares accusingly* you lied.
I know and then
She breaks up with him and becomes the Holly that met Artemis the first time, the angry mud people hating kind.
So yeah i guess so. But who knows if the books to come will be more interesting.
The first spoiler in the post above wasn't done as nicely as I would have liked.
It came out of nowhere. Sure I knew it was probably going to happen but it was kinda... tacked in there.
Though the relationship after...
Artemis admits he tricked Holly into helping
Was pretty interesting.
I love Eion Colfer's books. Anyone who likes Artemis should read Airman....
Well you have a few points there but is still is a good series.
Specially the latest book where a long waited moment of many readers occured.
Holly Kisses Artemis
And of course the plot was a little old by the time although it had many turns.
Turns out Opal was behind it again.
I LOVED the Infinity Code. It was so original I overlooked the shallow characters and paper thin plot. It was the first Artemis I read, and I thought his character was really interesting. The whole owning the pyramids bit at the beggining of the book was the perfect hook.
*spoilers* Artemis freezes Butler with a cryogenic ice thing! Buter turns old! Butler's sister, a fairy, and this mole thing break into a hightech millionare's skycraper to retrieve a pricelessly advanced supercomputer! Then ZOMG everyone loses their memory!
After that Artemis was just lifeless and never developed from there onwards. The whole demon thing came out of nowhere (though No1 was interesting), everyone got their memory back way too quick, the villian was a cliched, one-dimensional evil tyrant with no depth whatsoever, and No1's fate was unclimatic and unsatisfying.
I haven't read the latest book lately so I'll guess I'll read the newest one soon, even tough the whole time paradox just seems like a rehash of the memory erasure arc.
Hmm same problem here that's why i just downloaded the book off the internet after paying some cash. I could e mail it to you if you want Kaylyn??
NOOOOOO, Butler and Holly dies, oh okay, Holly doesn't die. *lets out a sigh of relief*
I haven't gotten the latest book yet. and read it. I want to but I can never seem to get to a book store or a public library. I have most of the school libaray books.
I have tryed to figure out the code, but I am not very good with it. I liked Atemis Fowl, my favorite character was Holly, from the very beginning.
you bet you are, i got it the day of
I must say that I disagree with you, Clo, but I can see where you are coming from. When I first read "Artemis Fowl", the only thing that kept me reading about Arty was the conviction that sooner or later, he'd get his comeuppance. When Holly nailed him, I was like "Booyah! Kick that little kid's butt!" He was annoying as all get out.
But I fell in love with Holly, Butler, Foaly, Mulch and Root and they kept me through the series, even though Artemis remained kind of annoying the whole time. There are still a lot of times when I haven't liked him and wanted to smack him upside the head, but he's grown on me.
And a rant from me (since Root's death just shattered me) regarding "The Opal Deception": Why didn't Root and Holly take off their visors and just talk to the cameras when they were in the chute and their mikes weren't working? Even if they couldn't be heard, the tapes could be analyzed and their lips could be read. I mean, deaf people do it all the time and so much trouble could have been avoided. (My mom's partially deaf, so this was the first thing I thought of when reading the book). And even Artemis doesn't think of this, when he is later thinking about it. He tells Holly that he reviewed the situation and there was no way out of it. He's right that Root probably still would have died, but at least Holly wouldn't have been blamed and that whole fiasco could have been avoided.
*deep breath*
Yeah. Love the books, though I haven't read "The Time Paradox" yet. I didn't even know it was out until about a week ago. I'm a bad fan.
~GryphonFledgling
I had to read these for the Young Adult Book Club I coached. Honestly, I hated them. The main character was annoying, and they were just so... blah.
i was very happy about the time parodox, but very unhappy at the same time. about in the middle of the book, the plot starts yelling "i needed more pages!!!", but that doesnt last for long. also, that girl from the last story (i forget her name) did not appear at all. that got me a bit mad. the reasons though i did like the book: artemis vs. artemis and there is a bit of romance that seems to grow as the story continues.

cant wait till the next
THE SIXTH BOOK IS OUT!!! *squee!!* At least, I think it is....haha lol.
haha I'm excited....
Holly doesn't die in the fourth book....I have no clue what you're talking about, Mat. haha.
I LUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRVVVVVVVVVV ARTY!!!!!!!
HOW COULD YOU SPOIL IT YOU EVIL HORRIBLE MONSTER YOU.
T_T
I know, the whole B minor thing was so funny!
I was annoyed too that it was mostly Artemis and Holly. I mean, I love them but still. It felt weird to have Butler on the wrong side. But Artemis V. Artemis was brilliant, and it was great for Artemis to come to terms with how much he's changed!
Also, Myles and Beckett have got to be the coolest little brothers in literature. I loved Artemis' lessons with them...
lol, the Minerva/Foaly combo against the two Kobois...
I'd love Opal to meet Opal, because the clash of the egos would be just too amazing! I would be laughing my head off.
I loved the whole "We get an apartment together" thing too... I like Mulch a lot, he's very entertaining. It was interesting when they were in the boot of the car and Artemis just says "How big is your pension?" because right then, you're thinking exactly the same thing as Holly...
He'll have to write another book, now he's set himself up with two Opal Kobois to compete with. We need an extra Foaly!
Also, I have to ask. Holly goes to the spa????
I missed not having No1 too. I know he's a newer character but I love him. The whole "I now pronounce you" thing was priceless, and he's still complaining about the tail!
Also... Qwan made a video game about time travel? With quantum zombies? I sssooo want to play that.
^^^Some general more awesomeness.
Eeeeeee! Time Paradox is awesome. xD
I made uber sure not to read anything about it until I actually read the book and...
I love how it made me think, the Artemis vs. Artemis aspect, and how Artemis keeps asking, "Was I really that obnoxious?" The B minor part near the end just cracked me up. xD
I have to agree with the person above me, though, I miss the supporting cast. I was rooting for the full Artemis/Minerva ship and...her name wasn't mentioned once. And we didn't get nearly enough of Butler or N*1, or even Mulch, but Mulch + Artemis = OMGLOL. "We get an apartment together, and after a whirlwind courting you marry my sister and honeymoon in Vegas." XDXDXD
I'm scared, though. Two freaking Opal Kobois! If he writes another book, Minerva/Foaly and Koboi had better darn well have a showdown.
<3<3<3
The Artemis Fowl series is awesome. Haven't read the Time Paradox yet, but from what I've read, it shpould live up to the promise of the series.
lol! I got the Time Paradox and it was sooo good! I read it and Breaking Dawn one after each other, and Artemis pwns Bella any day!!!
The whole "adolescent confusion" thing was quite fun, but also a little strange. You can tell it's going to cause a whole new list of complications between the two of them. I think that Colfer did manage to get round the whole obstacle of "is there going to be more or not?" thing nicely by making Holly younger and Artemis older for the time when it happened.
I did think however, that I missed my other characters. Juliet, Minerva, Trouble... I loved Mulch and his stupendous amount of gold thing going on though.
And two Opal Kobois in the world? My, that's going to be a problem.
I had forgotten just how much I love these books, I have half a mind to go back and read them again. Although the way Artemis speaks kind of annoys me sometimes. Abbreviate, man, abbreviate!
Also, I was a little disappointed that Artemis never confronted Holly about the whole calling him Arty thing.
But over all, thumbs up!
Ah! I loved the Lost Colony book! Definitely my favorite - though it may have something to do with Minerva and Artemis not being able to figure out if a "girlfriend" remark from Butler was an insult, and if it was, if it insulted him or the girl. Hilarious!
Eoin Colfer is amazing. He's written a lot of other things while he's worked on Artemis Fowl, and they're great. I really liked Airman. It's sitting on the floor next to me as I type this
I'm excited for the release of Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox in a few days. I wish my mother would let me buy books again...
These books are AWESOME! However, I was mad at the ending of The Lost Colony(ummm I think thta is the title, about the demons, I am just too lazy to look up)
I mean seriously, can he not lay off the poor boy once in his life? I mean, every story, he hs some kind of loss. Man, I need to stop rambiling, so my final answer, is yes, these are some good books!
I just maniacally love how smart the plot always is, the Eternity Code is amazing!
The second thing that is great is the character development. So superb you can almost eat it.
smurch rammph garr........ uh... yeah...sorry. I'll get ya'll a new copy.
Anyway I've read all but the newest one, and the Eternity Code takes the cup, with the first one in close second. They are in my top five favorite series.
So that's my 1 cent opinion.
RW
i have to say i started reading these books and didnt like them at all, but that was about 4 years ago so since you all love them i might try reading them again
I love them all.
I cired in the 4th book, when BUTLER DIES.
and when HOLLY DIED in the 4th book.
And in the new one ARTY MURDERS HIMSELF adn creates a TIME PARDOX.
MATT
For some reason, I couldn't really get into this series, which was weird 'cause I'm usually all about the fantasy books. I didn't like the first book at all, and the second one was just okay. oh well, maybe I'll try them again in the future.
Artemis Fowl is just such an enjoyable character. I love how arrogant, broken, and yet naive his little mind is. I wish we would get a little more insight on his criminal enterprises- they sound interesting. Eoin Colfer does a good job of making Artemis a believable character, and considering he is a 12 year old criminal mastermind that is saying something. I think that no matter what your age you can find something to enjoy in the Artemis Fowl series, some books are just timeless.
I was all rooting for Artemis to get a really bad crush on Juliet and she not give him a second glance... no?
Mulch, Holly and Butler are just really cool. So is No.1 when he gets his language skills.
IMO, Artemis himself is an amazing character. We read way too much about clichéed heroes, here's somebody that breaks all the rules...
I really want the next one to come out...
I love these books, though technically most people would say I am too old for them... In fact, I just reread them last night...
I must say that the first one tops all, just because it is the first and you really get to see Artemis and all his nastiness, and Holly and Butler and just... *sigh* I love that book... Though all of them are great. I agree that they aren't exactly stellar literature (Colfer tends to get a little preachy about environmental issues) but they are a fun read.
My reaction in the fourth one with Root won't spoil it, was to run out into my family room and screech at my brother and his best friend for five minutes about what had just happened, then I ran back into my room to cry for a bit and then finish the book. I still have trouble reading that part...
Butler, Butler, Butler all the way. Closely followed by Holly, and rounded up by Mulch.
However, for some reason I didn't like the last one as much. I think it is that Artemis has to fall for another genius. In a way, I think it would have been better for him to fall for an ordinary person, to see what ordinary is like. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
But I totally love these books. *thumbs up*
~GryphonFledgling
I thoroughly enjoyed all the books in this series, especially the last only, which I think was the best one. I think they are a great mix of humor, fantasy, and science technology (Artemis's schemes, the Fairy technology, ect).
haha. That's great. Artemis Fowl was a jerk in the first book, but if you read far enough and carefully enough, you see bits and pieces of the child he is. When they're sitting still in the dark, Butler (OMG I FRICKEN LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!) notices that Artemis is still a boy. I mean, his mother's clinically insane. Poor kid.
Awesome, awesome series. no.1 is really cool, though sometimes I think he delighted waaaay too much in vocabulary. Foaly can just be plain annoying. I mean, if he died, I wouldn't care. I mean, I guess I would, but not like when other characters died (or came too close for comfort. If you've read the books, you know what I mean.) Vernon, I think you'd like Artemis better in the second one. Artemis is forced to soften up a bit.
Holly and Butler. Coolest characters in the entire series and anything else Eoin Colfer has written.
*laughs*
My friend read the Opal Deception before me and she told me that. I spent the whole day running through the school shouting "Root! Root! Julius! Where are you?" and digging holes.
I was an odd child.
Woo, Eoin Colfer is Irish!
I love these books. Holly's my idol, she's so cool. And Juliet too. What I love is that Artemis is such an original character, you never read of his kind really, a genius, a criminal, a coward, a weakling... you love to hate and and hate to love him.
As for Tara... we went there on a history trip with school... and there was an American tour group and we heard someone saying "Do you think we'll see any fairies?"
Sometimes you can't help but laugh... I mean, it's not like we're going to be showing the leprechauns to you, now is it? I think it actually says in the first one how much the fairies prefer the Irish to everyone else...
Anyway, leaving my patriotism aside, I love these. They're not the most beautifully written books in the world, but they're awesome anyway.
Apparently in the next one Holly goes out with Trouble... 0_o...
I love them.... They're really funny and original, also the characters seem to have depth.
The audio books are SOOO much better though, because of the awesome narrator.
The writing style can be a bit offputting though....
I loved it! But then...I think I got too old for them...
YAY!!! I love the books. When my friend first told me to read them, I didn't want to because he used the words "You'lll love them" which always make me want to rebel. But then I did read them and I did love them!
The first one was the best. I did the code in that one, but was really disappointed when I figured out it was one letter per symbol and the message wasn't really all that entralling. So I didn't bother with the others.
But ... Root ... he was so awesome. *mourns*
Very good series.
Enjoyed it a lot.
Not much else to say. It's just a light read.
~Rogue Jedi Master and Hidden Leaf Jonin Timea
I love Artemis but Holly is a brilliant character and I love when they're working together =)
I'd heard of Artemis Fowl and thought, like a lot of now fav things, "Yeah, whatever". Then I read on someone's profile on Fanfiction.net about how great the books were, and so I got the first book out, and to my surprise it was great! I didn't like Artemis at first, and was strongly on Holly's side, but now, having read the Arctic Incident and the Eternity Code, I'm not usre WHOSE side I'm on. I'm rootin' for both sides, I think.
The humour in it great, not just in dialogue, but the style and description as well. Mulch and Foaly are my favourite characters.
I can understand some people thinkning they're a bit naff, but they're well up in my fav books.
The Irish feel to it is great as well, cos I like Irish/Scottish/Celtic mythology and old stories, so the sigificance of Tara and the mentions of Stonehenge I found particually appealing.
I really liked the fact that Artemis is initially so despicable, it's completely original.
I hated him at first. Artemis Fowl, I mean, although I guess I should say Colfer. The writing style put me off and for a while I didnt bother reading more than a chapter. Then one day I decided, what the heck, might as well finish it...
I actually collect his books now, I like them that much. I wasnt so fond of the latest one, but it generally takes me a while to adjust to new things XD What I enjoyed most was the idea of a highly intelligent, slightly evil mastermind who was not suave and debonair but at the same time wasnt a mad scientist either. I love the fact that Colfer treats the reader as an equal and I applaud his ingenious remodeling of the fairy world
I havent looked back since
They're one of my favourite teen series'. Even though, technically, I'm too old for them now ...
I don't like him, I tried to read the first, and stopped. I just couldn't stand him. He was so arrogant and smug. I just couldn't stand this about him. So I hate it.
For all of the above who could not crack all the codes PM me i'l give you the full code
Oh! I read the lost colony a couple of weeks ago! *grins* I know they are supposed to be too young for me... but.... it's the teenage evil (or not so much) genius! How could you not love the subtle humour and... they are so well written!
I cracked the codes ages ago... I can only remeber what the first one and the lost colony ones were about now.
I just used the titles. when I found a symbol I didn't know, I searched the titles. lol
Ah, gawds. I love this series. I have the first four, and I grabbed the latest from the library when I saw it. Have yet to read it, but I can't wait to do so!
It's fun, easy reading, and I wish there was more of the like in the "literary world."
I remember I used to love how Artemis was portrayed- he was kind of broken; very intelligent but not dashing or charming. I loved it. It was totally a break from every other run-of-the-mill action or fantasy series...bizarre, but awesome. I should go re-read them now.
I love those books.
Haven't read the latest yet, though, I'm waiting for it to come out in paperback ... which it probably will do soon ...
I love how Colfer writes with such energy and humour. I might be 21, but there's still plenty to enjoy in it!
Ooh, I love those books. ^^
Not golden literature (that title goes to Rowling and Baum), but still fairly enjoyable. Especially the audio books.
It makes me blush, but I still read the series.
It is no literary masterpiece, but I love it.
Great series; cracked the code on the second book easily enough, but couldn't do the first as easily so I didn't bother. The last book was great, I didn't think he'd be able to pull another off that well.
I love these books but I've never heard of a code in fairy language.
Excellent series. Very smartly written.
Although I have kind of fallen out with it because I thought he was only going to write the original three.
Great series. I loved it. Not much else I can think of saying.
