Like this Dust

Sweet requiem,
How I long to the dreams of childhood,
When my heart was tied to yours
Without fear

Longer still
Time fades to gray
Yet I remain
Alone at this desk

I wrote this for you
But you’re still not here
How far…
Did we drift apart?

I don’t want to live this way
I am an empty shell
Waiting for the grave
I am living dead

If you’re still listening,
Be there
But your not
Or I’m not
Do I really still want you, want this?

I’ve fallen too far
Haunted by the darkness inside
And there is no rest for a ghost

This is for the contest:

I love this! It's so painstakingly beautiful and so despairingly haunting that i almost cried. The only thing about this poem that I did not like at all, is the title. "Like this Dust"? How does that have anything to do with this poem? Perhaps it has a personal meaning to you or something like that, but from what i can tell, it's really random and doesn't fit well with this literary work.

The last stanza is the best! The final line brought shivers to my spine and goosebumps to my skin.

I’ve fallen too far
Haunted by the darkness inside
And there is no rest for a ghost

Anyway, this was an excellent poem!

Keep writing and Congratulations on that contest!

Happy Review Day!

You long FOR the dreams of children, not to them. (Sorry to begin with such a nitpicky thing.)

You don't need to capitalize the first word of every line. You probably shouldn't. I used to do that too and it's a hard habit to get out of and I guess isn't that big of a deal, but I'd suggest not capitalizing them unless grammatically expected. Your decision.

This is a beautiful lament about lost love.

I might consider getting rid of the ... I'm not sure what the point of them are.

Sorry this review's so short, but I hope it helped!

Okay. Specify. Make this personal. This sounds like a very generic lament, somewhat awkwardly phrased at times, and I really think it has the potential to be more. Towards the end, you seem to switch to very imagery based poetry-- I would suggest evening that out throughout the entire poem, or dropping it altogether. Establish emotions about the relationship or whatever it is you're talking about, and the readers will empathize a lot more. (If you're just writing for yourself, do whatever you want, lol)

Make this personal. This is too bland for me atm, and I DO think that you could work on this and make it great, but it's not quite there just yet.

There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.
