So, wow, I have not worked on this story for ages, but I figured, what the heck, why not finish another chapter just for old time sake. Hope you guys enjoy this, though I don't know how many of you have read the previous chapters.
Chapter 4. It's all fun and games...
Ares woke on a hard surface to a roar of laughter and something wet splashing across his face. He opened his eyes, only to blink rapidly as stinging liquid seeped into them. It took a moment for his vision to clear and when it did, he found himself looked in to the upside down faces of several young teenagers.
All of three were guys, their faces flushed and glistening with sweat. Ares thought, with random disappointment, that it was rather unfair that he should have to wake up to such a sight. Didn’t characters in stories always wake up to a pretty girl tending them in a bed with crisp white sheets and sunlight filtering through an open window, a soft breeze stirring the- Ares’ fantasy was cut short by a cry from the boy in the middle. He looked around thirteen
“Hey,” The boy leaned his pudgy face close, dirty blonde curls plastered to his forehead. The stench of sour breath filled Ares’ nostrils. “I think he’s waking up.” As he spoke, the boy lifted a glass tanker full of amber liquid. “Here, you must be thirsty.” He said sloshing the contents over Ares’ head and neck with a laugh.
For a moment Ares lay there too stunned to even sputter, the smell of beer heavy. The moment past and slowly Ares lifted himself up into a sitting position. Using a thumb and a forefinger, he calmly wiped the drink from his eyes.
He had been lying on a round table and now upright Ares gripped the edge of the pockmarked wood as room seemed to tip to one side.
Swallowing a wave of nausea, Ares pushed himself off the table, his feet hitting the floor with a thud. The laughter of the boys doubled as he swayed slightly.
After a moment Ares turned to face the group, his expression mild. His arms hanging loosely by his sides,
Under his gaze the boys laughed slowly turned false and died away. The middle teen’s eyes turning mean.
“You got a problem, dude?” He asked, exchanging meaningful glances with his companions.
Ares straightened to his full height, towering over the curly haired leader and then he laughed.
“Me? A problem?” Ares smiled broadly and then slammed his fist into the teen’s face, who dropped like a sack of sand. “No problem at all.”
Stepping over the fallen boy Ares grabbed the t-shirt of the closer of two other teens. Slightly taller than Ares and a good bit heavier, Ares used the teen’s weight against him. Jerking him roughly off balance, Ares slammed the second boy’s face hard into the wooden surface of the round table. Ares barely had time to feel satisfaction at the gush of blood that came from the young man’s nose before a pair of arms latched around his neck from behind. Reaching back with one hand, Ares’ fingers wrapped around long stringy hair, while the thumb on his other hand found the eye of his assailant, an area which Ares applied pressure to without hesitation. His attacker’s grip loosened and using the handhold he already had in the teen’s hair, Ares directed the boy’s face into his fist. The boy sank to the floor beside his friends with a grunt.
Breathing heavy, Ares straightened. Looking around for the first time he found himself surround by a circle of young men. Wide eyes staring out of dirt streaked faces ranging from eight to, what Ares guessed to be, close to his own fourteen years of age. Ares slowly took in the crowd, his gaze settled on a boy perhaps eleven or twelve
A nest of wild red hair and a mass of freckle splattered across the boy’s face gave the pre-teen a carefree look, but it was his eyes that made Ares pause. Mature confidence sat in the depths of them. Dressed similar to the rest of the boys surrounding him, in a t-shirt, hood and jeans, the young man’s stance was relax in a way that Ares recognized as someone who knows they are in control.
Ares pointed a finger at the redhead. “Who are you people and where, the heck, am I?”
The boy grinned, his teeth flashing as he spread his arms wide.
“We are the Lost Boys, and welcome to Neverland.”

"he found himself looked in to the upside down faces" - He found himself looking up at upside-down faces?
Again with the lack of world building, I know there wasn't really much space in this chapter for it but now that the story has obviously shifted and opened up a new world (Neverland) I feel that we'll never really know about the place he came from now which is kind of a bummer.
The ending made me fangirl a little bit, I'm not going to lie. Ever since watching Once Upon A Time and seeing their take on Neverland, I kind of became a little bit obsessed with Pan...
Anywayyy, the title makes sense now. When I first saw it I was hoping it would be Peter Pan fan-fic but the start gave nothing away (intentional or not?)
Can't wait to see what your Pan will be like, and Captain Hook...because I'm guessing he's going to be in it judging by the title.
I am really enjoying this novel and if you have your heart in it, I'd love for you to continue
Great work!
I haven't read the previous chapters... sorry! But I'll still try and write a good review.
Ares woke on a hard surface to a roar of laughed
It should say laughter not laughed.
He had been lying on a round table and now upright Ares gripped the edge of the pockmarked wood as room seemed to trip to one side.
I think it should have two commas before and after upright, it reads better in my mind that way. Also, trip should read [/i]tip[/i]. Good descriptions, by the way, it's easy for me to imagine the scenes.
A nest of wild red hair and a mass of freckle splatter across the boy’s face gave the pre-teen a carefree look,
...a mass of freckles splattered...
When I started reading this I was certain that it was a Percy Jackson fanfiction. But now I'm thinking it's a Peter Pan one? Either way, it was very enjoyable to read and again, your descriptions were excellent.
