Red Velvet Terminology

by bloodybelle01

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

THERE IS ALREADY A GLOSSARY TRANSLATING LATIN WORDS FOR YOU, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD ADD THIS GUIDE TO RED VELVET TERMINOLOGY AND CONCEPTS. THIS WILL BE ADDED TO AND ALL OF THE CONCEPTS HERE ARE NOT NECESSARILY IN THE BOOK YET AND MAY CHANGE. THIS IS NOT A REQUIRED READ, AS ALL OF THAT WHICH IS IMPORTANT WILL BE COVERED IN THE STORY AT SOME POINT BUT THIS IS A GUIDE IN CASE YOU WANT BACKGROUND INFORMATION OR JUST SOME MORE READING/DEEPER UNDERSTANDING. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT SOMETHING EXPLAINED MORE CLEARLY OR IF THERE IS A CONCEPT FROM THE BOOK THAT I HAVEN'T COVERED HERE. -TATIANA ACCENT

DIABOLI: Diaboli is the name for the people of the Diabolus race. There are only two in the realms- Isaiah and Lisbeth. There are only ever two and unless they get killed (which can only happen through a broken heart), they never die. Diaboli can have children but they will end up being Free-Folk. Diaboli soul-partners are always human and they are a very dominant species- they take control. They are also compassionate, protective, understanding and have great strength of will. They are the rulers of the Free Realm.

DIABOLUS: The name of the race which all Diaboli belong to.

ANGELI: Angeli is the name for the people of the Angelus race. There are 13- Raphael, Isaac, Jordan, Peter, Robert, John, Aragon, Arthur, Edward, Henrik, George, Patrick and Randalf. Raphael is considered the High Angel (God) and John, Patrick, George and Peter are Archangels who are just below Raphael. Raphael never dies, the Archangels have a life span of a million years and the others of five centuries. Only Raphael can have babies- males will end up being Archangels, females highly religious, 'God'-fearing humans. Angeli are known to often have stifling relationships and do not love. At one time, however, they were a very kind, caring, loving and religious people but not anymore. They are now power hungry and believe themselves above everyone else. They follow a code based off of the Ten Commandments. They are the rulers of the Ruin Realm.

ANGELUS: The name of the race which all Angeli belong to.

DIABOLI WINGS: There are two types of diaboli wings- fast ones which are made of brittle bones that break easily (these wings can go up to a hundred times faster than ordinary wings but one can only fly for a few hours) and powerful ones which are made of soft, tough feathers (these wings can fly for unlimited amounts of time at a speed five times that of ordinary wings but are too big to fit in small spaces). They are shades of black, white and grey.

ANGELI WINGS: All angeli have the same wings, they are shaped like the typical 'Angel' wings that you see in religious paintings but are red instead of white. High Angels and Archangels have larger wings than the others. The wings start off light pink and darken to a deep red with each time the angel kills.

EARTH REALM: The realm in which humans are manifested in a physical form. The realm in which you live.

FREE REALM: The realm in which the Diaboli rule, the Free-folk live and the souls of those who are not belonging to the Ruin Realm are cared for. It is also sometimes nicknamed the 'Growth Realm', 'Home' or 'Down Under'. The reason for the name 'Growth Realm' is because one of their main goals is to push people into becoming better people. The name 'Home' came about because of the attachment which people make to it.

RUIN REALM: The realm in which the Angeli rule. There are no other people that live there except for the Angels and Raphael's children and the UnHolys. All Christian souls, criminals, the lazy and the arrogant souls are watched over here. The Christians are forced to fear God and to never go against his word and the others are tortured. If any of these people 'sin' they get tortured. (Before the Corruption, Christians here kindled there relationship with god and the others were taught the wrong of the ways. Souls were also allowed to transfer to the Free Realm after being cured (in the case of criminals) or if they were no longer christian. This is no longer the case. You go there, you're never coming out.)

SOULS: The essence, intelligence and personality of a human. Everything that makes them unique and who they are. In the Earth realm this manifests as their human form, in the Soul realms they look like glowing strands of light and each soul has it's own colour.

SOUL-PARTNERS: A true-mate for the Diaboli who mate for life. They are loved unconditionally and have a very strong bond. Diaboli can only have children with their Soul-Partners and only the Omega. Both Diaboli share the same Soul-Partner.

UNHOLYS: The Mistresses of the Angels- the Angels are the ones deemed an 'exception to the rule of marriage and celibacy'. (Before the Corruption, Angels married once per human life time.)

THE CORRUPTION: The moment when the Angel-Stone turned black and all Angeli became corrupt as well as the Ruin Realm.

THE MARYS: The name for the human wives of the Angeli before the Corruption.

THE ANGEL-STONE: The source of the Angelus power. If it is white then the Angeli will rule as they are supposed to. If it is black, they become corrupt. Only the manipulation of an innocent by the High Angel or an attempt at Immortality can turn the stone black.

THE BIBLICAL CODE: The code followed by the Angeli after the Corruption. The Angeli also force it's ideals on the souls of the Ruin Realm. Before the corruption, there was no code and they lived by three simple rules- be kind, be fair, be true.

FOREGROUND: The place where child souls (souls up until the age of 13) live. It is located in the Free Realm due to the Realm's more free-spirited, open approach to life and the souls are cared to by the Free-Folk.

FREE-FOLK: The Supernatural creatures that live in the Free Realm. They are humans which, after death, are chosen to look after souls of others. All Free-Folk died before their time. Free-Folk live for a normal human lifespan, starting at the age they died.

SOUL-STARS: Threads of light which are the essence of souls. They can be seen from earth as meteorites or suns and in the soul realms as two large constellations- one in Ruin and one in Free. Stars shoot between them all the time.

WANDERING SPIRIT/ ABANDONED SPIRIT:   Some soul-stars escape one realm and never go to the other. These stars then travel the universe as a shooting star for the rest of eternity.

Hey, it's just the Chirave Canicthus here to brush up on what's going on. (And to point out a few grammar errors.)

This explains a crudload more, then. Now I know what the heck is happening, even more. (See, this is why you keep a glossary at hand. It's for both you and your readers, actually.)

Right now I'm just going to ask a couple questions. First, where'd you get all this information? Did you create it all yourself, did you go to Wiki for a lot of it, or was this even copy/pasted with you editing the sentences around? (Sorry if that offended you.)

Next, how would a shooting star turn into a person? I'm sorry. It's all just really intriguing and I just really want to know.

Hey look, I'm an interviewer! Well, anyways, does one ever really "Die before their time?" I mean, I think everything's pre-planned in the universe and nothing can really stop what goes on. That doesn't necessarily means that we're slaves to the universe's exact agenda, but I think it means that there's a day we're going to die, and there's going to be a way it will happen. I know it sounds cruel, but even babies had to pass. (Sorry for the little spiel. I just wanted to ask that.)

Okay, so onto that grammer i wuz tokkin aboot. (It was painful to write that sentence. Especially the aboot.)
Don't worry, your grammar isn't nearly as bad as that sentence. I just wanted to point out "Unholys." When you have a word that ends in Y and you want to plural it, then you change the Y to an "Ies." So then you'd get Unholies instead of Unholys. Just wanted to say that.

Thank you for the glossary and I hope my questions aren't too much.
Keep Writing!
*The Chiravian flies away*

I came up with it all myself! A star is the manifestation of a soul as the human realm sees them so if a human went in their physical form to one of the soul realms, their 'star' would simply be absorbed into them. By 'die before their time' I mean if someone was murdered. I don't believe murder is part of nature. Death is but not cold-blooded murder. When someone loses their spirit or will it is an untimely 'death' too. In my mind, at least. Thanks for pointing out the grammar mistake! I will definitely be going on an editing marathon this week! And your questions were fine!

Salutations.

Well, this isn't actually a chapter, but since it is in the Green Room, it must still be reviewed. First, I shall give you some advice, and then I shall comment on the contents.

Many users here on YWS have glossaries for their novels, but if you publish it as a piece on its own, people may forget about it. What we do here is create a club specifically for those who follow our novel. Creating such a club is a simple business, really.

1. Go to the "Clubs" tab and click "Create a Club" on the right hand-side.
2. Once you have done that, a screen will appear asking that you fill in the name, tagline, image, privacy and description of the club.
3. After filling in all of these details, simply click "Submit" and the bottom right, and there you have it - a club for your novel!
4. Once the club has been made, click its icon. You will then find yourself on its wall. Feel free to make an introductory comment.
5. Then, you must go to the forums, but take care that you go to the club's forums, and not YWS general forums.
6. Simply click "Create topic" at the left of the screen, enter the title and message, and there your glossary is ready for use. Now, all of your entries will be grouped together, and if you ever need to add more, simply post in that topic.

Now, on to the content. Being an author myself, I understand the struggle to conceive an idea that is unique, but being a Christian as well, I find stories such as these unsettling. I understand that it is just a story, but others may not feel the same way, so just be cautious with what you write, please.

Also, read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, if you can. (It is the books off which the movie "The Golden Compass" is based.) This story resembles it in quite a few ways, so you may want to ensure they aren't too alike, in the event that you plan on publishing this story.

Good luck with your writing, and may you have a happy Review Day!

I have read them... I can see the resemblance but they are definitely going in very different directions...

In the book itself it explains how the realms are messed up and they never used to be the way they are... Christians were always with the Angeli because they are figures from their religion (just like people often say that if you're not christian you don't give to heaven) but the Angeli used to be good people... I do hope I make that clear enough in the actual story :) Thank you for the tip on clubs!

You're welcome! And thank you for the clarification; it actually does help.

Hey, bloodybell! It's time to review!
So, as I was scanning the first term, I found this. There's a word that's unnecessary and you can get rid of it: "ever". We already know there's only two, so why put ever? But if you insist on keeping it, reword it or something. Maybe "There are only two and will always be two and unless they get killed..." etc. Also, could you elaborate a bit more on the die of a broken heart thing? Maybe tell them how they get a broken heart in the first place--it might seem pretty obvious, but hey, from this, I get this is a whole different world we're talking about.

"There are only ever two and unless they get killed (which can only happen through a broken heart), they never die."

Moving on to the next term. You already said Diabolus was the word for their race. Do you need to repeat it? Same thing with Angeli.

In the Angeli, you say there are thirteen people of that race. In most books and pieces, people spell out numbers, in letters.

"There are 13- Raphael, Isaac, Jordan, Peter, Robert, John, Aragon, Arthur, Edward, Henrik, George, Patrick and Randalf."

Hey, I was wondering, if this was a kind of dictionary, wouldn't the words be in alphabetical order? And wouldn't it make more sense to put Diaboli wings with Diabolus and all that? Same with Angeli wings? Your order's kinda confusing me here...

I think this was unique and different, and kind of a breath of fresh air. Congrats for working hard on this and a belated welcome to YWS!

Thank you for your welcome and your tips! I have written them down and will use them when I get around to editing this, which should be soon hopefully...
By the way, I'm not sure if you are aware, but you double posted this review!

Hey, belle! This isn't a review, because this doesn't seem like something you can really review much of.

I will say that these kinds of things are probably much better suited for a forum post and then added as a link to your chapters. Terminology in a novel that is your creation cannot be so easily critiqued. I'm sure you put it here for reference? I recommend that, unless you want reviews on something -- even then, perhaps specify what about it you want reviewed -- then leave it to the forums? It'll make it easier for people then, so they don't have to come up with random feedback about something that can't be critiqued for the sake of getting it out of the green room.

With that said, good luck on your novel and happy review day!
~Wolfare

Do you know how to do that? If you do, could you message me the details because I had the same feelings :)

Actually, never mind, I will leave it like this as another review I got taught me somethings to fix about this but also general truths when it comes to writing.
