Indigo Night

E - Everyone

In Short Stories

I stand on the edge of sand and ask:

"Why am I so tired?"

I look up at the setting sun and ask:

"Where is all of my fire?"

The sun does not answer me,

Neither does the sea,

Or the clouds that wander along the horizon

Past me.

My feet shuffle along the lines

of the waves, as I think:

"Oh please, I can do this, I'm fine!"

But, as I stand on the brink,

I know that I am not.

" What is happening?"

I yell, with all my might

As the afternoon turns to indigo night.

I raise my fist to God, angered

And confused.

"This must be His idea of justice."

I muse.

Does He find solace in our litte game,

Does He find entertainment in the little pricks

We call pain.

Our sorrows, He has engraved on His hand.

Our tears in a bottle, I know.

But just like Job asked, "how far

does this have to go?"

I look up at the moon and beyond, tears

encircling my eyes

My hands shaking in remorse...and fear.

My thoughts are jumbled and mashed.

Every feeling and emotion I have, stashed.

"God," I whisper, " you have my best in mind.

But, I don't know how much I can take this time."

I stop and listen, no answer- save for the waves

Some, discouraged, would walk away.

But, because of my faith, I stay.

"The hurt, the grief, it's just

too much to bare. If you can,

take this cup from me, as I am here

in the waves, on the sand."

I tell Him, shouting at the stars.

I know He's listening, He's not far.

A small breeze blows across my face,

whipping my hair, to and fro

From side to side, from place to place.

I look up in the indigo night and see

A cross, painted in stars,

looking at me.

To this day, I remember that spot, those waves,

that sand. The mirrored reflection of the cross

the sky, on that late and beautiful and lonely

Indigo night.

He reminded me that even alone, He is nigh,

He never left and never changes.

Unlike the sand that is swept away.

My God isn't stopped by time, or the eras,

the trends, or the ages.

He made all of that, he created all of these.

And that is why I fall onto my knees.

I am a painting, yes this is true.

Painted by the brush strokes of a God

who knows exactly which color and technique to do.

He holds me close and very dear to His heart

an Artist by trade. A King in His own right.

His work is shown as I look out my window

and see, my Indigo night.

Hey there! Shey here to review!

This was a nice poem, but I've got a couple of things to suggest you do next time.

Firstly, you have this posted under lyrical, yet I was unable to feel any beat which would make it seem musical in any way. A really simple fix for this is to have a bit more formatting. For instance, stanzas would go a long way in this poem. I understand that the publishing system can be bugged and perhaps that's why you can't split it into stanzas, but I'd suggest using a symbol (like an asterisk or a hyphen) to split the poem up.

Another thing you could do is repeat phrases to make it seem more like a song. Have you ever heard those songs on the radio which repeat a chorus over and over, three, four, five times per song. While it may get old if overdone, it is a conman musical practice and would go a long way to making your lyrical poem here seem more musical.

Overall, wonderful song/poem! Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing more!

Thank you so much :) I didn't realize that I had put it under lyrical. But I can and shall fix that :)

Darn. It wasn't meant to be lyrical?

Well, I guess now you know the basics to writing a song. XD

Yes I do lol. I've written over 40 songs. It was just a simple 2 am mistake when I first drafted this piece XD

Hey, CateRose17! Scythe here to do a quick review :)

What I liked:

1. I liked the concept; it's beautiful that even in doubt a person can always be reminded that faith is with them, even when they doubt that faith. God will always be there to guide his followers. I'm not religious (by title, I do have my own beliefs, however) but I still find the notion captivating.

2. I love how you have used nature to start the poem.

I stand on the edge of sand and ask:
"Why am I so tired?"
I look up at the setting sun and ask:
"Where is all of my fire?"
The sun does not answer me,
Neither does the sea,
Or the clouds that wander along the horizon.

What I disliked:

1. There were a few too many lines of dialogue within this;

"Why am I so tired?"

"Where is all of my fire?"

"Oh please, I can do this, I'm fine!"

These are some of the few. You could have easily arranged some into the work itself. When people write dialogue into poetry, they need to be able to present it right. Sometimes, it takes away the aspects of poetry and just disrupts the flow.

2. Capitalisation. You've capitalised some words, like "his" in the middle of a sentence, I noticed you did it a lot whenever God was mentioned. Whilst God is an important figure, that does not mean words other than "God" itself can be capitalised.

I hope this helped! Good work ^-^

Keep writing!
