Writers Block

I sit here anxiously, fingers tapping on the silver shell of my computer, thinking and thinking and coming up with nothing. It's a frustrating thing, wanting to hear the clicking of the keys on the keyboard and wanting to see the letters appear on the screen but hearing and seeing nothing. I take a walk and I go for a swim and try to relax, yet I still think about it, the urge to write and create. Eventually I come back and sit down in front of the screen. I look out the window at the people and cars going by and I twirl my hair. I listen to the whack whack whack of tennis balls hitting racquets on the television screen. It's usually not that hard to come up with something. I'll see a phrase or a word or a picture or something that creates a spark in me and an idea springs to live, but not at this moment. So here I sit, still thinking, with a still blank screen in front of me. And then, finally, I have an idea.

Hi Cay, Jules here for a review!
First off, this is an incredibly short story. Not that that's a problem, it's just the shortest non-poem I've seen on YWS so far :P
Your topic is one that, I'm sure, all writers experience at least once. I too have fallen under this curse many times and it's an infuriating place to be when you really want to write something.
Let's just hope that I don't get writers block while writing this review.

On to the grammar!
I didn't see very many spelling mistakes but there are some places where punctuation might help your story flow more smoothly. For example...

I take a walk and I go for a swim and try to relax, yet I still think about it, the urge to write and create.

I know that there's only two "and"s at the beginning of this sentence but that's too much! I had to go back and reread it because the ands tripped me up a bit. If you don't mind I'd like to suggest changing it to something like "I take a walk and go for a swim, trying to relax, yet..." or "I take a walk, I go for a swim, anything to relax. Yet..." Personally I think that the first suggestion is better but I gave you two to show that's there's plenty of ways to change the sentence with some extra punctuation.
So here I sit, still thinking, with a still blank screen in front of me.

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Two "still"s? No-no, Cay. The first still is good, perfectly fine where it is, but the second's gotta go. Try replacing it with "uneventful" or some other word that paints a similar image to "still" without using another still. (Also keep in mind that if you change it to "uneventful" you've got to change the "a" before it to an "an". :P)
thinking and thinking and coming up with nothing.

Just saw this one further up (first sentence actually). Two "and"s here too, but I suppose they're more appropriate here. Still, I'd suggest changing the second one to "but" or "yet".
thinking and thinking but coming up with nothing.

thinking and thinking yet coming up with nothing.

Aside from the aforementioned I don't see any other mistakes, or at least not any that I could correct without messing up :P
Great job writing this, though, I really did like it. Just try fixing those few mistakes and I think it'll be a much smoother read.

Keep writing!
-Jules

Hello Tuesday here for a review. i like to begin that this little chuck of words could be describe to everyone who has suffered from writer's block. Mostly since we just sit there in front of a computer or sometimes a paper, grabbing at our mind for any ideas (and sometimes the brain gives us the same idea, yet the person who is trying to write, could write it in their own way). Also I enjoy the imagery in this chuck since you can imagine some one in front a laptop, trying to think of an idea when really the idea that they already come with, it cliche or something.

Also i would think you should write on from this since, most writer's block things like this, turn into something greater. Maybe turn this into a novel or something, since this little chuck of words is amazing as it is.

Farewell and sorry for the short review,
Tuesday

Hi there! I really enjoyed reading this piece. It was very descriptive, well written and I definitely felt like I could relate to it. I think of most of us get writer's block sometimes and at those times it is best to rest our minds and let the ideas come to us. That, or listen to a song, a look at a vivid image. My favorite line was "I sit here anxiously, finger tapping on the silver shelll of my computer, thinking and thinking and coming up with nothing" Overall good job.

I liked this a lot, it was really good in describing writers block.

I have the same feeling in writers block XD (Don't we all feel like it when it happens?)

Some Formatting would help with it, maybe just a little.

I like how it's present tense.

I like the idea and feeling of it.

I can't find any spelling errors etc... you did well on this!

Anyways, I really like it..

Thanks!

Thanks! Yah, we all have that feeling once in a while. This was super improvised, so I get your comment on formatting. Thanks for the review!

I really like this short story thing! It is really accurate-that's exactly how I feel when I can't think of anything to write but I want to! Although you could make it a bit longer but it was great because it wasn't too descriptive so the feeling of writer's block was portrayed even more!

Well done!

I LIKE this piece coz it gave me the exact feelin as i had once when i was working on my first book(which is finally publishing in july '13). the writers' life is very tough, he/she has to thing continuously about the subject and the creativity which he/she has to put inside the book.. we as writers has to think about the magic(Indians call it 'masala') i hate this masala word but magic is good. albeit magic is not that magic which shamans use for showing some mind boglling tricks. it is a simple stuff which is used to impress the beautiful audience who wait for ur book to arrive in nearby bookstores. and when it arrives, they pounced on ur stuff to grab it first. (for author sign).

This piece is pretty well-written, but lacking in any unique concept. I think we all kind of write about writing, particularly when we can think of nothing else due to writer's block, and to be honest, it's become a bit of an exhausted subject. To make it truly your own, you have to come up with something different.

The story itself seems only half-developed. It doesn't really have much intrigue or appeal, and to be honest I feel as though it just needed a better underlying idea. As is, it seems a bit directionless.

My advice is to expound upon this. It really is a fetus of a story, still very much in the process of finding any form. Keep working with it and adding on, and you may end up with a promising piece.

Keep writing, and best wishes! xxx

Thanks for the advice. I do agree with what you are saying. I didn't take very long to do this, but I could expand it to make it better. Thanks!

Writers block is a writers worse nightmare. I get It a lot, so I can relate to your pain. I would love It to be longer, and more imagery would be nice. But in the all,and all, this is great. Good luck with your writing, so far.. I've enjoyed it! Oh yeah, allow me to introduce myself. I'm SecreteJournalist, but feel free to call me Brie. I follow anyone I review, so consider yourself followed! Great job, keep writing please!

Sorry for the short review.. I'm in my phone :p

I share these exact same feelings about writer's block. It can be the most frustrating ting in the world for a writer. I would say that the piece is a little simple (if that's the right word) and that it could have used some more imagery and rhetorical devices. However, that is something I like about it, as well. Because the piece is about writer's block, I find it very fitting that there is nothing too creative or figurative about it. It reflects what the mind of a writer is like when they have writer's block. All in all, a piece I enjoyed. Keep it up!

Thanks, and I think my problem is solved :) Came up with a few new ideas so I'm gonna roll with that. Thanks for the review!

i exist in a constant state of confusion so its ok
