Why do I try so hard
To be something I'm not?
Why do I let down my guard?
I lied-- all the humiliation-- I never forgot.
.
My vision can be so blurred,
How did I think I could see?
There are people that I have hurt.
Trapped in myself-- I'll never be free.
.
I try to act like a young adult,
But I'm only an adolecent.
It's more truth than self-insult,
And it will never be enough for contentment.
.
I'll always embarrass myself
One mortifying way or another,
Whether I'm nine, sixteen, or one hundred and twelve.
Why do I live my life so I suffer?
.
I just wanted to be the perfect girl--
The one who goes above and beyond,
The one who'd someday change the world.
Now that little, older girl is gone.
.
I'm left without any confidence,
Because I can't do anything right.
Nonetheless, I'll face the consequence.
I'll endure it with no heart left to fight.
.
I will bite my tongue before I speak,
So I will never have any regrets.
My previous emotions made me weak.
I'm a teenager deep down until death.

I smell something ... circular in here.
Wow, this is great! First off, you picked a very relatable topic, which is the very best thing you can do topic wise. I totally get the feelings described here, like all you do is a mistake and you can never be what you want to be. Perfect, or whatnot like that. Anyways, it's awesome that I, the reader here, can relate to this poem and really get what you're saying. Plus, you do it beautifully. Your descriptions are awesome.
"Trapped in myself-- I'll never be free."
Oooh! I can relate, and I just looooove the way you state all of this! There's so much emotion. Awesome.
Okay, so my first suggestion (notice I say suggestion, you don't need to do it) is take out a few of the hyphens.
"I lied-- all the humiliation-- I never forgot." These hyphens here I think work really well, but the spot that struck me a bit odd was "Trapped in myself-- I'll never be free."
I think, to really make the 'I'll never be free.' stand out, which it should, it's a main point, is if you switched out the two hyphens for a semicolon and dropped the 'I'll never be free.' Into its own little stanza, all alone, so it really sticks with the reader.
I'm also just a bit curious why, every time you use hyphens, you put two in a row. Is that the way you were taught? Or have I just been doing it wrong the whole time? Sorry, just wondering, no offence meant.
One spot I thought was a bit strange was this paragraph.
"I'll always embarrass myself
One mortifying or another,
Whether I'm nine, sixteen, or one hundred and twelve.
Why do I live my life so I suffer?"
So, you have a bit of random rhyming here between 'another' and 'suffer'. It's not bad, but it kind of ties in with another thought I have; 'suffer', and that whole line really, seems a bit dramatic; in such a way that it doesn't really fit with the rest of the poem. I would suggest taking out that line, but a probably better alternative would be finding a better line to go there, just a little less dramatic, but sending the same message.
So yeah, one more thing. In the line 'I lied-- all the humiliation-- I never forgot.' I think a better way to make the 'I never forgot' stand out would be to change those last two hyphens to a colon.
So that's what I got! All the little nit-picky things that came to mind when reading this our out now, except for a couple that weren't that important so I forgot that. XD Good job! I liked reading this! Real good job.
Keep writing and have fun doing it!

Welcome!
Very good poem, this one has a really strong association factor, I think everyone's had a moment where they've felt like they need to "step up to the plate" and stop having fun so they may get their priorities in check. Well, while it is important to mature and understand what is appropriate behavior for certain situations, as well as knowing how to act and what to say around certain people, you *never* have to change who you are. If you do bad or stupid things, stop doing them, but don't ever thin they define you, no matter what anybody says.
I like this poem, the rhyme fits perfect with the theme, and while theme is used quite a bit, this point of view is something personal, made for that few understands and connects with it, rather appealing to a mass audience.
Good Job.
Thank you!
Wow, this somewhat reminds me of myself at that age. I think it does a very good job of capturing that teenage feeling of wanting to be grown up, but not yet being there.
I also like the subtle rhyming scheme. Because some of them are not true rhymes, like 'girl' and 'world' I almost missed that there was a consistent rhyming scheme throughout, but that isn't to it's detriment, as the subtlety is nice.
Overall, I quite like it, but I would also like to add that if you're going through depression, you should look into getting some help. Depression isn't an easy thing to deal with, and it's not something you should have to deal with alone.
Thank you!
