he used me, defiled me
made me feel lost at sea
he ruined my sense of worth
do i need a rebirth?
he wouldn’t listen when i said no
i never thought he would go so low
did he even truly love me?
lets agree to disagree
only cared when i was getting undressed
i need to go on a self love quest
he left me with such ease
like i was a leaf in the breeze
made me feel lost at sea
i want to be free

Breezy, you are strong. You are everything that person tried to take from you, and nothing in what you experienced diminishes who you are or what you deserve.
Your poem carries a depth that goes beyond expression! it reads as a confrontation with what was done and how it altered your sense of self. The “lost at sea” motif is especially powerful because it captures both disorientation and isolation. It reflects what it feels like to be untethered, to have your sense of direction and worth shaken, and to be left trying to find your way back to yourself.
Lines like “he wouldn’t listen when I said no” and “only cared when I was getting undressed” introduce a stark clarity. They do not soften what happened. There is no attempt to disguise harm as confusion or miscommunication; it is named for what it is. That directness matters.
At the same time, the poem does not remain in that space. There is a shift toward awareness and reclamation, particularly in “I need to go on a self love quest” and “I want to be free.” Those lines suggest that while the experience left damage, it did not end your capacity to move forward. The question “do I need a rebirth?” feels less like uncertainty.
What stands out most is the contrast between how you were treated and how you are beginning to see yourself. The poem holds both realities at once: the harm that was inflicted and the emerging refusal to let it define you. That tension is where its strength lies.
Thank you very much! This one was a bit difficult for me to post as it%u2019s so personal, I%u2019m glad I ended up posting it. I still struggle with self image issues from this (as well as things that happened during other relationships) even though this happened nearly 10 years ago in 2017.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that, the poem is shattering as a reader but also devastatingly astounding. I hope you're safe and okay now.
Thank you very much! I am safe and okay now, yes, thank you. This happened all the way back in 2017 and I%u2019ve been with my now husband for nearly 5 years now.
Hello BreezySprout,
with the first four lines.I saw the short description of the poem. I was kind of anxious whether I should leave a review or not. I'm sorry what you had gone through, or are going through. But, since you posted your work, it'll wrong not to review it. Hence, I shall commence forth 📯
The depiction of sea and rebirth really reminds me of Poseidon- coincidental similarity perhaps.
I see that you made the last four lines
And you also followed a simple rhyming scheme of (a,a,b,b) throughout the whole poem, which I didn't notice at first because I was lost in the imagery.
I really appreciate you for writing and sharing your work
Thank you and take care ^^
Thank you very much! The first and last four being so similar was fully accidental, funny enough haha. Thankfully this was a %u201Cgone through%u201D poem as the event happened in 2017.
