In Poetry

dont know where to begin

i dont feel at home in my skin

felt this way for eight years

but it seems to fall on deaf ears

always having to explain myself

like im an experiment on a shelf

dont know if i’ll ever be free

sometimes i just want to flee

will i always feel this way?

i dont want this feeling to stay

i dont feel at home in my skin

i wish this pain would end

Good morning!
I've come to try my hand at poetry again so hopefully, it'll be to your liking :)

I really like how the poem gets right to the point, I like the lines: "i dont feel at home in my skin" (and especially that you emphasis this part via repeating it at the end) and "like im an experiment on a shelf" because it leaves ground to interpretation. Usually when you think of an experiment, you don't actually question that experiment. You prod it, you experiment, see what happens. So there's like this... these two different ideas here. First that you have to constantly affirm your own identity to the people around you, and second, at the same time, they're watching you to see what happens. Especially annoying since it's none of their business ò.ó

I have a few trans friends and each one has had their own experiences so I think you'll just have to find your own way to navigate these feelings. I wish you all the best :3

I enjoy this poem! I like how it's short because it shows how tired they've grown from explaining everything they feel. I love the use of language in the poem such as "like im an experiment on a shelf" it gives a great tone of both confusion and suffering. It shows the struggles people go through very well. I also like the repetition of "i dont feel at home in my skin" because that thought can feel like a sponge that absorbs you up like water, and always circles around your head. Overall, great poem! Keep writing.

This is a great poem! I really understand it and relate. It's a great perspective on the struggles that people go through. It's a good way to understand it as well.
