Project N.Q.

Image

☆ Novella / Contemporary Fiction / Coming-of-Age ☆

Synopsis: Daisy Winslow and Theo Gardiner met in high school, and from then on, their paths crossed multiple times throughout their formative years. Despite the instant connection and unique understanding towards each other, along with a shared passion for filmmaking and stories, the time never seems to be quite right for anything more. As life happens and the two grow as individuals, and grow towards Christ, every encounter begs the question on how they feel towards one another and towards the life they want to live. Will their stories one day become truly intertwined, or will it never quite be the right time?

I love the vibe of your story, and I’m already rooting for Daisy and Theo! Looking forward to reading more :smt049

Oooooooh. How old are they in this novel, just wondering?

Day 1- 7/1/25
I don't plan to update every day, but I felt it was important to document my first day. It didn't go quite as planned but it was still productive. When I went to write the draft, I realized I had NO idea what the plot of this story was going to be. I knew how I wanted my characters to develop, and the gist of what I wanted to happen, but not much organization on the sequence of events. So I had to fix up my outline and develop some things before I got to writing.

A few months ago I wrote the first 2 pages of the novel, and when I read it, it no longer perfectly fit the outline I had edited. So I revised the 2 pages I had written. TECHNICALLY I now have 902 words so far, but I did not write all of that yesterday so I am not officially counting it towards my word goal.

I think today I'll be able to continue being productive and can hopefully "begin" on the draft. Oh, I also made 2 covers for the cover contest, and I read a little bit to help boost my writing inspiration.

I think you should include it anyway! It's not November Novmo... you can be on way more, lol.

Glad it was productive!

Week 1: 7/1-7/8

My first draft is at 1,813 words so far.

This has exceeded my weekly goal! I have been finding it difficult to keep up motivation, especially confidence. There are things I am still figuring out with the characters and story, but I am hopeful!
I am really enjoying the creative process despite moments of mental fatigue and days that feel slower than others.

UPDATE as of 7/24/25 -

To say I have failed would be dramatic, yet true. I had hit a mental block when I realized how utterly lost I was in writing this. N.Q. follows a more episodic/serial format which spans multiple years, instead of being more contained with a flowing storyline. When I first went into this project, I had a faint idea on what I wanted from my characters, but no idea how to deliver that. I had no chapter structure, and no idea how to even write a chapter. I can write small scenes, come up with ideas and concepts, but there were no bones to support this project. Just as fast as I was inspired to make goals and write this story, was just as fast as it was for me to fall out of inspiration and end up in a mud hole. For a while, I just felt utterly discouraged. I wondered if I even should pursue this or put a pause on it for a while. I have other project ideas I think would be fun to dive into, but I couldn't just give up on these characters and story that I've held so close to my heart.

So, I decided to do more research on how to write this. I edited my character profiles to get a better understanding of who they are. I made multiple outlines and had to delete/add ideas that would better fit the format of this story. It's still a bit messy, but I see some light at the end of this tunnel. I've gotten a better idea of what I want each chapter to look like, which has given me some comfort.

I still am trying to regain some excitement, motivation, and drive on this project, but I haven't given up. This is all so new to me, and quite intimidating, so there was a lot for me to figure out. I simply needed more time to plan. Maybe by November I will be much more on a roll with this and can do NovMo.

in my humble opinion, if you've thought about or worked on your project at all, no matter how little, Camp NovMo is not a failure ^-^ in any case, good on you for doing the research and planning things out! i'm sure all your hard work will pay off, and i hope to see you at NovMo! <3
