The semi-final draw means that one member of the staff will make it to the final, and one non-staff member. One of my fears in making in this competition is that it would all be moderators by the end, so I am very happy to see that I was completely wrong!
Have some sympathy for PenguinAttack, who was knocked out by Hannah in the Quarter-finals. Pengu had probably the toughest of all the draws, having to face All-time 3rd Highest Reviewer Rydia, followed by All-time 5th Highest Reviewer Kyllorac, followed by Hannah, 31st on the All-time leaderboard, but 1st over the last few months. Wow. Sorry Pengu. Let's hope next time you compete you get a slightly easier run!
Guineapiggirl was eliminated in an incredibly closely-fought 1st round match with FermentingFruit. However, because a member who had committed to the competition disappeared from existence, guineapiggirl was given the chance to compete once again. And wow, has she taken advantage! It would be a fairytale story if guineapiggirl could take home the cup.
On that note, no members (except guineapiggirl, who was given a second chance) who were drawn in the first round have made it to the semi-finals. It looks like the benefit of having to compete in one less round is significant, so hopefully next Cup we will have a more even cohort!

The above suggests how much the random draw has affected how people have made it this far! Unfortunately that was always going to happen with such a small number of competitors, but as a sports fan, I love the underdogs to do well. So while I feel sorry for some of the heavyweights who got tough draws, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
